Really nice video Hera, perfect demonstration of how a goths game can go. There's no need to show the spam, you just spam and win. Just re-watched Spirit's video on the Goths before coming here. I love the dynamic between your guys' channels: Spirit gives you the in-depth numbers & shows you the underlying mechanics of how a civ works, while your channel demonstrates how to use those theories into practice in real games.
My favorite thing about you is how chill and down to earth you are, it's actually so wholesome watching you get flustered about mistakes you made in the recording and how you're willing to self-criticize, haha. You're 100% my favorite AoE 2 player!

Thank you Hera for all the tutorials you have made. I was able to improve my skills to the point that Extreme AI is a joke "just" by following a simple build order (and failing many times before mastering Dark age 11). One important thing was also customising the hotkeys in a way that constant villager and military production does not interfere with what I am doing. EG using select all instead goto hotkey for TC(s) to queue vills so the view does not switch to TCs.
I think the most impressive Goth start I've seen was a guy who opened MaA/Skirms. A lot of people open up with an archery range first, so he target fired the archers while letting MaA soak up enemy skirm shots. Didn't really do much damage at first, until the MaA started hitting around 6-7, at which point buildings started getting threatened. Just looked real smooth; enemy couldn't make archers 'cuz skirm snipes, enemy had trouble using skirms 'cause skirm+MaA wall, scout transition don't work, felt like an early checkmate.
With Goth you are basically in a support/carry realtionship with your own civ. in the early and midgame it takes significant skill to keep up with your opponent and there isnt much your civ does for you but in Imp Goth just steamrolls SO many civs. Figure the correct composition out of 3 ppossible units and spam until the opponent dies. The game as shown is 95% Hera beeing a better player but what would follow here would be total domination by the Goths. You can propably sub out Hera for a ~1800 player and he would still bring this home.
How I deal with goths: anticipate drush so wall early, straight archers for feudal age and deny stone if possible and in castle age continue with crossbow with some knights/light cav (to deal with skirms). If I can’t deny stone, just straight transition into knights and skirms (if I see halbs).
That Build Order PDF looks class, mate. Great stuff. If something like that would be part of the game, I wouldn't even question it, even though it was made by just a single man.
Personally I make my 'bricks' out of militia-line with spears-line 2-3:1 with sets of skirms (5-15) or sometimes archers or a similar ratio blend if need be, until huskarls, to equal militia-line or so. [some times a large filler] Calv of any sort to chase down siege/ranged, though I don't recall how much MP I played back in the day and haven't jumped back in just yet. Though now I realize the AI may think I'm castling when I include stone, since I always tower my gates or what-not. A tower also offers early healing for defenders, for me. Soon I will remaster booming, to better afford my bricks. I like them 45-60, and I measure my foe's strength by how many bricks they can take. Since I know one of them can level most cities. Skimping spearmen down to 3 to 12 swordsmen still offers some counter with 15 huskarls and a wad of skirmishers.. or just more melee, if I skip the range entirely. How I do this with half the eco sometimes is the tricky part haha.

I hear all the time that goths are a bad civ for pros because they are easily countered. I think this is a weird since they can just go stable units or archery range units in feudal, still do good with them in castle and if you have boomed properly and defended yourself, they are pretty much unstoppable when u transition to infantry in the imperial. And the instant loom is a villager ahead pretty early on which is a decent eco bonus, so they do not have that terrible eco anymore. Underrated civ in general which I think comes from people spamming infantry only because it is an infantry civ, and everyone have already countered your infantry because they know whats coming. Go knights or something in castle age and you can wreck people hard, some people dont even wall against goth because they dont expect cav
Very intersting to showcase the adaptation in the game. When I try to analyse my mistakes after I lose a game, most of the time, the answer seems to be : I was too stubborn and didn't want to deviate from my initial plan.
I hear people say : Goth don't get Stone Walls to balance the fact that they're almost unbeatable in late game, ao they're easier to attack in early game... But, i feel like you rarely stone wall in early game with any civs, they're mostly used in late team game to wall your trade line. So Goths can defend well in early game and get to that flood
It was the balancing factor back then, Goth is AoK civs, they were designed using that environment in mind, Goth 10 more pop limit was actually big deal back then due to pop cap being 75, the limitation of stone walling is because of how easy for Goth to overwhelm the enemy, 10 more units in that environment was pretty nuts that I believe only Teutons was the only thing that can handle Goth well
Berries are free but they gather slower than farms or hunting, people pull villagers off of berries if they aren't finished and they can afford farms (Except Franks who get berry gather speed bonus, it makes berries only a little slower than farms instead of a lot slower)
What goth has counter for scorpions in castle age or early imp from Khmer (except bombard Cannon). Lets say khamer already massed around 15 scorps in castle age and pushing with a ram?

Only thing you can make as Goths is not infantry. Pretty much any counter that you would counter them with should work.
goths get hussar which is good for sniping siege and ofc raiding
@@Wadusher hussars won't do against Khmer heavy scorps, those tend to melt hussars before they get close. mangonels in castle age can trade ok though.
