From a 15 year medic those scissors are referred to as trauma sheers my good sir. Love what you are doing and I appreciate you sharing your knowledge. I am 41 and rediscovering a love for NERF and getting into modding.

Thank you so much for this, a complete overview of what you need and its applications for beginner and beyond. I've been wanting this for a long time and im glad you were the one to do it.
I work in a retail store and I watch all the "nerf-tuber" channels to help kids pick stuff out that wont suck, and convince stingy parents to buy sht for their kids and let them have fun. I see so many people come in and say no to buying a blaster because its too expensive or dangerous or because they think kids will lose interest in them and ship it off to good will. When in reality they can buy a cheap blaster, and improve on it later, heaven forbid parents actually spend time with their kids explaining how tools work and showing them how use them.
I usually point out your channel because you interact with your fans a lot of the time and most importantly you keep swearing to a minimum. Plus you actually play with kids in mind when going through your vids witch brings a different mind set.
Shameless pandering aside I agree with @James White pipe cutters are another thing that's nice to have, as well as sand paper & eye protection of some sort, especially with the dremel. I love how you explain all the different nuances of things that can happen with all the different tools like having to shave the catch springs or place pins back in, stuff that a time lapse video wont show you. Cant wait for an advance toolkit vid in the future, and for nothing but good things to happen to you. Thanks for the video!

Captain Xavier I'd like to mention that, for truly beginning modders (and crafters of all kinds) a great resource for tools can be garage/yard sales. They are an easy way for someone with few or no tools at all to get a jump start for little money. It's not too uncommon to be able to buy an old toolbox with a dozen or so items- usually a set of screwdrivers, a few wrenches, pliers, and a hammer- for $10 or so.
I'd also suggest adding small clamps to the list. If you're doing anything with glue, clamps are just lovely. The 1" - 3" size C Clamps are good for most Nerf applications and rarely cost more than a dollar or two.
Sandpaper is a good addition too, but I am also a big fan sanding sponges. They're cheap, *much* more reusable, and let you quickly clean large areas for painting or gluing. If you get a good one, it will have 4-6 different grades of coarseness on it, and can be perfect for removing all the tiny warning labels from a shell.
Lastly... Magnets. Magnets are SUPER helpful in a couple varieties. I have a lot of magnetic trays for holding screws- LOVE those. An extendable stick with a magnetic tip is great for finding dropped screws or springs that disappear under benches (or into carpet, for indoor modders.) Lastly, a strong magnetic ring can be handy when disassembling blasters where the spring can shoot away. I drop it on the spring to keep it close by, and if a screw is involved I can put the screwdriver through the hole in the magnet. All of these are cheap, under $5 each in most hardware stores.

Some if the best advice I got as a young modder was "never trust an adhesive." It suck with me (no pun intended) One of the things I found useful are dental picks. Work well to set pain in the ass spring like the one in the Strongarm's catch.

    • @LightningEagle14
      @LightningEagle14 6 ปีที่แล้ว

The strongarm catch spring isn’t actually hard. You just have to put in the catch, and then feed the spring in through the hole in it.

Screwdrivers: #1 (a Chinese-made product size) is a standard screw size for plastic products based on the low stresses on plastic assemblies and the low cost of the screws vs. #2 (a U.S.-made product size). On quality designed plastic clam-shell products, the screw head clearance holes are made for a typical #1 screwdriver shaft.

Your channel inspired me greatly and because of that I made some of my own custom weapons:
I made a small pocket lightsaber/laser pointer by getting a perfectly sized laser pointer that a mega dart could slip onto(I took off the tip) and whenever I activate the actual laser pointer it lights up the mega dart foam and the laser points down the middle (it's about the size of a mega dart and it's foam so it's completely safe)
I also made a drain blaster shotgun that shoots 4 darts (the drain blaster is not activated by a trigger you just pump it once to fire) and the barrel is not like a maverick cylinder it is actually two barrels from a crappy blaster I found taped together. Thank you for being an extremely entertaining youtuber and thank you for inspiring me :) (by the way where would I find you on other social medias?)

Captain Xavier, I plan on removing the the buzz bee stock point on my Interceptor and replacing it with a nerf stock point, I've cut off and sanded the piece from the back of a recon and plan on attaching it with loctite plastic epoxy, but I realised that due to the shape of the blaster, which curves forward near the top, I'll need to do some body filling, Can you recommend an epoxy putty to use for this purpose? I was leaning towards Apoxie Sculpt, but if there's something cheaper or easier to use that will work just as well, I'd like to know about it. This is my first time ever doing something like this. I'm also concerned about what to do to ensure the two halves of the shell will fit together cleanly, and still be possible to disassemble the blaster. I was considering just doing the epoxy with the shell appart, and then sanding down the inside until they fit cleanly.

Was it intentional to not include a soldering iron? You mentioned you'd make a soldering video next week, but I personally consider a soldering Iron to be one of the basic tools.
A soldering iron is one of the tools that I've had access to for longer than I can remember, back when I borrowed my dads tools before I've built my own set. However, even though I can use a soldering Iron passably, I still have no idea how electricity works, I'm more of a mechanical engineer than electrical.

    • @CaptainXavier

Soldering does not, in my opinion, fall into the category of "beginning modding." One can do a lot of damage if you mis-wire a LiPo so I will be covering soldering separately.

Certainly...but only if you come pick them up. I do not ship blasters for free.
