New Zealand Spearfishing Nationals 2022: Hen and Chicks // Whangarei Heads

  • Diving was tough but rewarding during the premier NZ spearfishing event hosted in Ruakaka. Divers searched for prey in harsh conditions and encountered flighty fish, pushing them to their limits. The first day was spent diving at the Hen and Chicks, followed by the second day along the Whangarei Heads.
    Join us on a journey through the ocean as we hunt for fish and make memories, both good and bad. The harsh weather leading up to the competition added to the challenge, but it all brought us closer together.
    We are grateful for everyone who made this journey possible and who brought out the beauty in us all. The ocean has given us much to be thankful for, and these fish and experiences will live on in our memories and videos.
    Thanks for coming along for the ride. Stay safe and smart.

      Thank you, Chris, I appreciate the message. I worry that I go too far in expressing myself so is it always reassuring to know when the personal stuff resonates with people.
      As Blue Neoprenes audience grows I find myself a lot more measured in the things that I say, my words in videos often have a tendency to come back on me in "real life" for better or worse.
      I will try my best to remain my authentic self because there are plenty enough fakes already and I believe that people enjoy that about the channel.
      Back in the day I would YOLO it and speak my mind absolutely uncensored and with little regard for consequences, very few people watched so I wanted to leave a strong impression. I certainly needed to tone it back abit because it was getting me in legitimate trouble, but I can't lose that edge either.
      I have grand plans for this channel and I have put alot of time into it already but as being a TH-cam channel it is subject to the judgement of external forces. If I get on the wrong side of the right people, the channel is donezos, so I can't be reckless.
      Balance is everything and I feel like I am trying to find a balance in how I express myself.

      Thanks mate! I try and be grateful for the lessons I learn but man that was not fun. I'm back now, hopefully a little less naive.
      I believe that a great life involves trials and tribulations opposed to comfort and safety.
      Time is the fire in which we all burn and hindsight beats foresight.

      Thank you Levicard, but I would have to disagree. I have a lot of gratitude for the people who watch my videos. Each individual adds value to my mission and motivates me.
      The fact that people watch my videos and are interested in what I have to say feels surreal and that sensation only grows with the channel. I try and stay authentic. Which people seem to appreciate and it gives me faith in both myself and the mission.
      Thank you for your time and energy. I hope to create many more things that you enjoy.
      This channel is to add value to the lives of others and strengthen our relationship with the natural world first and foremost.
      Such kind comments as yours are not something I will fish for but my appreciation is enormous.

    Good korero on the video bro, agree with you about the RA guns... let go of a roller RA once on a drop off and didn't realise how negatively buoyant they were... finally caught up with it after a 60 ft drop down into the blue. If I'm going with a pipe gun, then its going to be a pathos laser pro or something like that...

    • @BlueNeoprene
      @BlueNeoprene  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah man, not ideal ayy… haha. Probably a few of them sitting on the sea floor. The buoyancy is shocking, not sure how it’s deemed an acceptable product and hundreds of dollars at that.
      It would be a good business model, selling heavy ggns and then expensive upgrades to carbon barrels. Except for the fact that’s its very difficult to get your hands on a blank RA carbon barrel.
      Most the stuff is good but the rollers annoy me and I’m tired of everybody worshiping rob allen ggns like they are the second coming of Christ. Heavy plastic lol… 😂

    • @Coconautify
      @Coconautify ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BlueNeoprene Yeah, I actually bought on the Ermes II trigger release mechanisms, and I'm going to have a crack at building my own gun... I'm not really into rollers, a dude up in Kuwait tested a whole bunch of roller guns in a pool and noted their overall tendency to pull the spear down a bit when releasing, so you always have a to compensate a little for that too... Inverted rollers seem to be better, but I've never tried one. Thanks again for your content dude.

    • @BlueNeoprene
      @BlueNeoprene  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Coconautify That's awesome dude, keep us updated on the build! rollers are for sure a pain in the ass occasionally but that's sort of why I like them, lots of variables to work with. Getting my one shooting straight was abit of a process.
      One issue I find with roller guns is the wish bone riding up the muzzle when shot, causing the back of the shaft to lift and the front to drop (potentially also the case in the Kuwait testing).
      Problem is fixed by using an uneven double wishbone (as seen in my videos). The longer side goes on the shaft and the shorter side is what makes contact with the muzzle. Line connected to shaft makes no contact with muzzle leading to a smooth release (in theory at least)
      No credit owed to me for that information however, learnt it from a coatesman videos.
      The feeling of building your own weapon and putting it to use will be a great reward. Best of luck my friend

      110 carbon roller. Omer mech, wettie carbon barrel, Aussie power head roller muzzle, RA low profile reel and 7mm RA shaft. Custom jobby
      Carbon barrel is essential on rollers imo. Thanks for the question, more than happy to answer any other questions about my baby

    Dude your wrong about rob allens ahhahaha its bomb proof polyamide (plastic on steriods) and aircraft grade aluminum with a lifetime warranty ? Sounds pretty god-like to me

    • @BlueNeoprene
      @BlueNeoprene  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      >God like
      >Plastic
      Pick one!
      I cannot fault the durability; you never ever hear about broken rob Allen's. It does make sense also, as plastic doesn't rust. But personally, I love metal. I think it feels far more legit and premium. Top dollar for plastic will always baffle me, no matter the application.
      When I'm diving well, the spears feel like an extension of me. This may sound strange but perhaps a metal trigger mechanism can make you more in tune with the spear. Plastics have extremely low vibrational frequences and do not conduct electricity. If using a metal trigger mech and making contact with the trigger, I imagine the shaft will conduct the energy you are outputting.
      If you were a galaxy brain genius maybe you could steer the spear towards fish with your mind! But till then it's personal preference really. And I absolutely prefer metal.
