  • ‪@HarmoniousRa‬ has one of his Creating space events coming up in Whangarei and I'm helping with the Moana zone and part of that is gathering Kaimoana to take to the event.
    Its a super wild windy day in the far north but that means conditions on the West coast are perfect for a dive, heading out through a forestry track I make my way out to the amazing diving to be had and gather a great feed of Paua (abalone) and Crayfish (llobster)!

      Yeah I like the walk around from the pines but I'm getting a few threats from around there so it's perhaps a little safer to drive over the hill lol! Cheers!!!

    Here's a tip if u use the plastic knife that also have the measurement size on them witch also doesn't damage the paua if there undersized. U can get them from any fishery office, there behind the counter. Get a few incase u loose one. 😉

    • @KerryFlowers
      @KerryFlowers  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I've had a few of them, always seem to lose them tho... Cheers!!!

    Know why more pauas are legal on west coast than east? Was thinking they must like the turbulence of the west, plus the isolation

    • @BlueNeoprene
      @BlueNeoprene 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Water currents would surly be a factor. I have heard people day that rough waters leads to bigger paua because they have to hold on alot more

    • @KerryFlowers
      @KerryFlowers  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are plenty of paua on the east coast but they do not grow big like the ones on the west coast do, I suspect that they don't get the nutrient rich currents from the southern ocean being pushed onto them like the west coast ones do...Cheers!!!

    Put them back on the rocks if they are under size bro

    • @OmniAtlantic
      @OmniAtlantic 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I do that too go fix them back on a rock.

    • @hakipeters4301
      @hakipeters4301 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I do too. But at least they're staying in the water. So many people taking small kai.

    • @KerryFlowers
      @KerryFlowers  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I have watched them when dropping them from the top and they will clamp back onto the rock pretty quickly so I dont think that you need to place them unless there is not much rock around....Cheers!!!
