I own an Sig P226, which is now approximately 30 years old. The stainless slide was manufactured in New Hampshire, while the aluminum alloy frame was produced in West Germany. The sights employ the single dot and single bar system, which Sig utilized in the original US Army evaluation. It does not have a rail, front serrations, or a slide cut for optics. In essence, it’s the straight forward, 4.4 inch barrel, without “bells and whistles” configuration, but it provides exceptional quality, ergonomics, reliability, durability and accuracy. Yes it’s hefty, however, that’s a substantial advantage in both combat (I’m two decade veteran) and in lawful defensive engagements. And the all metal, traditional DA/SA design has proven its exceptional reliability, safety and precision, which are very often lacking in some polymer-frame/striker-fired autoloaders. The Beretta 92/M9 series is a fine design, but it is not (imho) as good as the P226.
I have owned 3 P226’s including a Legion. They are all gone. It is a fantastic gun that I just can’t seem to fall in love with. I have owned and shot several 92 versions. I am not a very good shot with them for some reason but I keep coming back to them. I picked up a 92x yesterday and I am determined to get better with it because I am just drawn to them. The winner of this comparison is the CZ75. By far my favorite and best shooting gun.
In the US I paid $689 for 92x and $1,450.00 for 226 with Romeo Pro 1 optic. Finish of Legion has been improved. You will get holster wear on anything. Don’t carry mine (that’s what Glocks are for) so no issues yet.
These days in the United States with guns flying off the shelves, I wonder if the quality control has gone down significantly across the board? I'm not sure what year these were manufactured but I wonder if that could be responsible for the finish?
I carried both as a police officer, I currently own a old Italian Production 92 FS converted to a G Model and A New 92X with the LTT trigger and no SIG's. Yeah I'm Beretta through and through. P.S. Striker fired guns are not new, they have been around since the early days of semi auto pistols. For some reason Hammer fired guns have always been more popular until the modern day. Probably due to ammunition quality as striker fired guns rarely give second strike on a reluctant cartridge.
I have a sig p226 mk25, and a p229 nitron. I plan on getting a pair of berettas (one full size and one compact) in the next couple of years! I love the classics! I also have a CZ 75BD, and a 75 D-compact PCR.
Coming across this video a little late. I had a 229 legion but didn't realize it took different mags. than the 226 so sold it as I already had a 226 MK25 and 226 Extreme. I put the SRT trigger in the MK25 and it's actually a shorter reset than the factory installed SRT in the Extreme. I have two of the Beretta 92x. Both are Centurion G models and one is also an RDO. Its odd that the RDO has a trigger that is nearly like it has a Performance or Langdon kit in it. It is lighter than the non RDO and has a much shorter reset. RDO also has forward serrations on the slide and the non RDO doesn't. The RDO came along about a year or so after the non RDO. Kind of at a loss to explain the difference in the factory triggers on the Berettas. Before getting these I also tuned up an older 92A1 a little and did the G conversion. It still isn't as good on the trigger as the 92X and I have a 92X Performance trigger kit for it to install and see how that does. I'm thinking a Langdon trigger bar will be added too. But comparing the SIG to Beretta is hard to say which I like better. Beretta has a huge advantage in magazine cost, about half that of the SIG. I'd hate to have to choose only one though. Luckily I don't have to.

BTW: I use Tipton Snap Caps in mine, rather than dry firing them repeatedly like you are in your video.

Can’t to wrong. I’d go with SIG. Only because I love the 226 platform and sig guns in general. The beretta has never really spoken to me. I enjoy it’s uniqueness but it just doesn’t do it for me. Both great guns.

I actually think the Beretta has a better grip …in practice. I think just holding the gun no question it doesn’t seem as good. But I believe a big part of the shooting magic of the Beretta is in the large grip. In the gun shop the skinny grip seems better but while shooting the larger grip shoots better. At least that’s my experience and I have mathematically perfectly medium hands. Weirdly I actually like the slide release on the sig because it’s out of the way and I feel like the trend in modern guns is to make the slide release too easy to manipulate- which results in more failures to lock back
A Beretta Match Hammer has different geometry and will reduce the pick up on SA giving tightening up the action. The Match Hammer required fitting for my 92x RDO GR model.
I own both they are both fantastic pistols and must buys but I always pick the 92 over every full size pistol for sentimental reasons. From Die Hard in the 80’s to when I played Resident Evil at 10 years old it n the 90’s. When I carry my 92 it performs and still gives me butterflies.
I have a P226 Legion SAO. The trigger is amazing. Imo it's not a great carry gun because it's SAO, but if you want a gun for shooting it is so good. If you want a P226 for carrying I recommend the DA/SA version, as shown here. 😀
As much has the Beretta is a well-built handgun I still prefer the sig p226 , reason being is that with the sig I can change the sights out better and if there is a firing malfunction I can grab the slide and clear the round and not accidentally put the weapon back on safe . The first pull on the handguns in double action the sig is a smoother pool and on single action the sig is still a smoother pull . Another reason why I prefer the Sig is that it is slightly lighter than the Beretta . I fired the Beretta when I was in the military but when I was working subcontract security armed I carried the Sig 226 and found it to be better than the Beretta . This is my own personal opinion between the two , I've worked with other armed security officers that had preferred the Beretta over the SIG , as with any handgun it's always up to the individual shooter . 😉👍✌️
I have a M9 and legion p226. I also have a HK P30L. The HK ergonomics are the best. The grip melts into your hand. I really wish it had the legion trigger. HK’s da/da is close to ass.
Nice review, even if a somewhat apples to oranges comparison given that the SIG is literally twice the cost. I would say that some pre-travel is desirable on a duty gun but the match hammer that can be ordered on Beretta's website reduces the pre-travel to just a few milimeters. A better comparison would be an LTT 92. The problem I have with those SIG triggers is the very distinct positions at which the DA and SA break. Relatedly, I also do not like how the SA breaks almost against the grip frame: I have to fight a tendency to change my grip for the DA to SA transition. The reset is phenomenal (though I'd say an LTT in-house trigger job is more apples to apples), I just wonder if the characteristics I dislike about the trigger are the price paid for obtaining that reset.
I just recently acquired a 92X RDO GR Centurion, and with two exceptions, the finish and the Beretta 18 round mags, am extremely happy with it. My 226 Legion was $1200. My 92x was $700, carries more ammo, has a better trigger, has a easier de-cocker/safety for leftys, and comes milled for a dot. Also has better aftermarket support.
Beretta blew Sig out of the damn water. And I love Sig.
Legion is overrated IMO. Beretta 92x for me takes the win.
Beretta 💯 all day. That thing is sexy af and reliable all the time! That Sig legion is ugly as sin!
sig isnt even as close as rugged as beretta. and with the price difference between the two sig is just a joke.
That must be why the U.S. Army replaced the M9 with the P320 🙄
@@kraquin should of been the Glock but sig under bid just to get the contract
@@waynesworld9753 Really? I hadn't seen that. Got a link?
@@kraquin look up Glock 19x or the MHS trials
I know right. That’s why navy seals, SAS, and German combat swimmers all use sig p226. They purposely wanted a bad gun.
Don’t get me wrong, I love both, I just can’t stand liars and idiots.
A Langdon Tactical trigger bar will solve your trigger reset problems. I have them in my 92X Centurion and my PX4. Huge improvement. Slap a lighter hammer spring in there you're golden.
I just bought the 92X RDO optic ready and it has a shorter reset than my 92X as one of the upgrades.
That's a new one on me. I didn't know Beretta was making optics ready 92s.
Sig legion by a mile
