No, we only replaced the gear on the crankshaft. I didn't use any hold downs on the camshafts, but did reference the positions of both. From what I read and after speaking with other Ford mechanics, the upper gears and the short chains between the camshafts rarely have any issues. The passenger side camshafts did turn a bit (no more than an 1/8th turn) when I removed the main tensioners but I had a wrench on the camshaft bolt to control it.
Hello friend, do you have the maintenance manual of 04 navigator?I'm trying to take the whole valve chamber out and clean it up, but I don't know how much torque
@@mountainviewsgarage Hello, my friend, may I ask if this car needs to replace the valve stem seals? is the valve stem seals on this car generally not damaged?
That’s hard to say, since there’s a lot of factors that may warrant replacing them. I have not heard of an issue with these engines regarding the valve stem seals. I would do it on a case by case. Was the engine smoking on startup? Was the engine consuming/burning oil? Those are the typical signs of the seals may need to be replaced.
Does flow behind the timing cover? Because I have a Navigator and one day it just leaked all the oil and I can see a hole near the oil filter. Would that be the actual block or just the timing cover that has a hole in it? Thank you
Yes oil does flow behind the timing cover to lubricate the chains and gears/sprockets. I would initially think the hole is more likely in the timing cover especially if you've have had timing tensioner issues/noises very long as the the chains can slap around and wear a hold in the timing cover if left alone for a while. Good luck!
Sorry to hear you’re having trouble. I believe I had to disconnect the injector wiring clips from the injectors to get the valve cover off. It was a tight fit but it will slide towards the center and up. Good luck!
@@mountainviewsgarage I've removed the fuel injection line and the computer line as told in the video, but the bottom two air conditioning pipes are still blocking the road
I know it was tight, but it did slide out. Maybe you a/c lines are slightly bent down towards the valve cover. You might be able to carefully pull back on the lines slightly giving you enough space.
Makes sure you have all the bolts removed. You’ll need to carefully pry on it, there are a few spots for a pry bar. But it shouldn’t take too much pressure. Good luck!
Did you put the new gears on and if so did you need to use a tool to hold the camshafts from spinning

Do the 5.4L 4 valve have a problem with the spark plugs blowing out or breaking off?
Not that I’m aware of. I was told by another ford technician that they’ve never seen the 4 valve have the issue. I know this one never did.

No I don't. I typically just search on google for the specific torque spec and sequence needed.
@@mountainviewsgarage thanks ,I removed the camshaft yesterday and I will replace the valve seal today

@@mountainviewsgarage No, they're not broken right now. I just want to replace them while I'm at it

I need help putting my navigator back together. I had a mechanic changing my heads and he never finished the job. Just left my car torn apart.
I’m sorry to hear that. You can email us and we can see how we can help you. You can find our email in our channel page.
Hello my friend, the passenger side valve compartment cover can not be removed, the two air conditioning tubes inside are blocking😂

We’re your replacement parts from ford? Timing Chains?
No, I used Melling parts. I’ve had good luck with them in the past.
The front cover won't come off😂

@@mountainviewsgarage Can you tell me where I can put a pry bar?
There should be spots near the bolt holes. Use a rubber mallet up where the valve covers sit on the front cover to help loosen it.
@@mountainviewsgarage thank you🙏
