  • In this detailed and informative video, I will guide you through the process of timing chain cover gasket and front crank seal replacement on a Ford 5.4 liter 2 valve motor. My step-by-step tutorial will provide you with clear instructions and guidance throughout the process. I will provide detailed torque specifications and tightening sequence pattern for the bolts, ensuring a good seal. I will also provide detailed bolt location information so you can make sure the right bolt is in it's proper place. Following the torque specs and tightening sequence will help ensure a proper installation with no leaks.
I chose to use the gasket kit from Fel-Pro. The part number is TCS45982-1. It contains all the seals and gaskets except for the Permatex Ultra Black.

I really like the Ford blue on this motor. I built a vapor hone machine that I used for the aluminum and it did an amazing job. The combination of the Ford blue and the bright aluminum is a GREAT combination! Thanks for stopping by and taking a moment to leave me a comment.

The 5.4 2V in my 99 F250 needs a new timing set, but I can't get the timing cover off, it's stuck. My research tells me the dowel receivers may have corroded and are holding the cover on. I shot them as best I could with PB blaster, did a bunch of very gentle taps all around with a rubber mallet and found a couple pry points up top and on the passenger side and managed to flex it between 1/32 to 1/16 of an inch, just enough to verify release and after this video, I will go back tomorrow with new ideas, but I have some questions.
    1) are the dowel receivers on the cover thru holes? If no, do you think I can drill a hole to allow for penetrating oil entry?
    2) more research suggests I may have to loosen all the oil pan bolts and let the pan down slightly. If I did that, would that ruin the gasket seal?

Next time ,,put the seal in the freezer the night before,, it should shrink,,then it might push in by hand,,, just a thought

Great video since I’m about to do full timing upgrade on my 2000 f250 with the melling kit and gonna do WP and oil pump while I have it open.. question should I use blue loctite on the guides and tensioner bolts and should I use loctite on the cover bolts your video shows the bolts going in dry
