    So helpful, I found the single intake gasket for $26. I got lucky bc I’ve been looking for months and I’ve only seen the gasket sets for $100+

    Do you need to unplug the ac lines to take off the valve cover on the passenger side?

    • @mountainviewsgarage
      @mountainviewsgarage  20 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      No I did not need to, I was able to carefully move the lines enough to get the valve cover out.

      @@mountainviewsgaragewas the Lincoln Navigator misfiring? My Lincoln Navigator 2003 is misfiring, low oil pressure, stalls when driving, and wastes way more gas than it should for example it I drive 10 miles it’s wastes 50 miles of gas

      Also the motor shakes a lot, I recently changed the fuel injectors and that kind of reduced it but the problem wasn’t solved.

      No, I had no misfiring or rough running. I could just hear the chains making noise on start up. Are you getting any DTC codes? They'll usually tell you what cylinders are misfiring. If no codes for timing, I'd look at the spark plug and/or coil, you can swap one from a good cylinder to the misfiring cylinder. Good Luck!

      @@mountainviewsgarageMy obd scanner said my car was misfiring on cylinder 6 and 3, and also multiple and random cylinders, I just changed my spark plugs yesterday and I also recently bought ignition coils so I know it’s not that, I just don’t know what to do with my car anymore and I don’t want to give up on it cause it means a lot to me.

    How did you clear the AC lines? I've got the cover loose and the electrical harness out of the way, but it just doesn't seem like there is enough clearance for the cover to get around the cams. Exact same year and engine. I was just going to disconnect the lines, but I'm having trouble getting the quick disconnect to release. If I can avoid that all together, please do tell.

      I carefully pulled them back just enough to get the valve cover out. It's tight, and you'll want to be careful, but I was able to pull them back enough to clear without disconnecting the lines. Good luck!

    How did you remove the crankshaft pulley bolt before using the extraction tool?

    Hi there. Thanks for posting. How did you hold the cams down from moving?

    • @mountainviewsgarage
      @mountainviewsgarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The drivers side didn’t move at all. Only the passenger side moved slightly (less than a quarter of a turn) which I controlled with a wrench on one of the camshaft bolts. Then I made sure to turn it back when I installed the new chain while aligning up the timing marks. Before I removed the tensioners I made sure the crankshaft gear was at the 6 o’clock position which put camshaft timing marks pointing slightly outwards from the 12 o’clock positions on each bank.

    I have a navigator 2004 who has the same problem as you. Do the timing chains and sprockets have to be replaced?

    • @mountainviewsgarage
      @mountainviewsgarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I definitely recommend replacing the chains. They can stretch and with the slack created by the failing tensioners increases the chance of chain damage.

      @@mountainviewsgarage Is it true that if only the extender is replaced, then as long as the front cover is removed, I am afraid of removing the intake manifold😅😅😅

    • @mountainviewsgarage
      @mountainviewsgarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@wingwang5058 Yes you can just remove the front cover and only replace the tensioner. But keep in mind, you might find damage to the plastic guides as well, which is common on these engines. Also, when you remove the tensioners the camshafts may move. So you’ll need to be able to verify timing marks on the camshafts. Good Luck!

    How many hour job you think?

    • @mountainviewsgarage
      @mountainviewsgarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s hard to say, I’d estimate 5-6 hours. It would probably go faster now that I’ve done it.

    • @samgreen6144
      @samgreen6144 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mountainviewsgarage five to six hours for that whole job?

    • @mountainviewsgarage
      @mountainviewsgarage  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@samgreen6144 If don’t have any interruptions and have all the parts ahead of time. I get called away quite a bit to help with other projects. The toughest part was unbolting the power steering pump, next was removing the intake manifold, which I tried to avoid at first. If any of your guides are damaged or broken you’ll want to drop your oil pan to clean or replace the pickup tube, which will add a several hours as you’ll need to lower the front differential slightly.

    These engines were such a disappointment. They were overly complicated, needed to be treated like a delicate teenager, and didn't perform any better than a push rod engine.

    • @mountainviewsgarage
      @mountainviewsgarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Couldn't agree more. This vehicle was taken care of and had low miles. The power band was a disappointment as well. Maybe that's why Ford went back to the push rod V8 in the Godzilla engine. Thanks for the comment!
