I own a 2019 Breakout 114, same motor as FXDR. FXDR has really weird ride angle . Not comfortable for big guy like me . I’m 6’4” Otherwise I liked the way the FXDR looks, just not the ride.

Breakout. I've always loved the way the look. However, I found it to be too impractical to be my only bike. It's more of a rip around town muscle bike and I mainly commute with my bike so I picked up a Road King Special. My next bike however.... Breakout or Fatbob hmmm.... Either way that's enough rambling from me. Keep up with the great videos man.

BreakOut for sure, way more options for customization and cool custom builds but in no way, shape, or form is either the FXDR or the breakout anywhere near the performance of a sport bike. If you want to be on a cruzer than breakout all day if you want a sport bike than get a Honda CBR600RR and rip the twists all day.

  • @TheViperSD

I traded my 18 breakout on the FXDR. The FXDR handles much better and has a much larger lean angle, 26 v/s 32 deg. I dragged pipes all the time with the breakout. On ramps, off ramps, right hand turns...
Loved my breakout but the FXDR is a much more agile bike, easier to lean into turns as well. The breakout has a larger trail than the FXDR due to adjustments in the frame made by HD on the DR.
I put 7k on the breakout before I traded it on the DR. I have 5300 on the DR now. Hands down the DR is the better handling bike.
As far as highway goes, they ride about the same. Your exposed and upright catching the air on either bike. The DR does have a detachable windshield that I put on for highway rides that helps a good bit with wind once you get up in the 80 mph range. Love my DR!

I test rode all the 2019 softail lineup including the FXDR. It was enjoyable, but was uncomfortable and felt like a stapler. (I’m 6 foot) I bought my 2019 114 FXBRS and immediately imported some of that juicy Cult-Werk custom parts and European parts and sundown pillion for the lady’s comfort. The new breakout is “something that Harley should have been, but wasn’t, but is now”. It’s mad torquey and can pull, it sounds mint with the right pipes and not too obnoxious. Other riders my age would go straight for the super sport etc. and just rice it. But I went for “an old mans bike” but with the new modern twist, comfort and power. Just my 2 cents.

Break-Out without question. The FXDR looks like a molded one piece Japanese inspired bike. Furthermore I like spokes much better than disk wheels. 21" front tire looks much better on the Break-Out.

I prefer the breakout and modify it a bit. I don’t like the drag bars. I would prefer bars that came back further, and a 2 into 1 exhaust. I love the fell of the stock bike, except the bars. I was on one a few months ago and I really liked it. It was very comfortable for me.

  • @STHLance251

I'm more of a traditional cruiser kind of guy, so I'd likely get the Breakout. Mostly for its looks to be honest. The FXDR definitely has its place; it's a familiar in-between for sport bike guys to try a Harley for the first time (at least aesthetically speaking), but for me, the Breakout just looks too dang good to my eye to pass up.

  • @ragingtyga
    @ragingtyga 5 ปีที่แล้ว

Its tough. The Breakout lends itself more to customization, but it looks more like a blank canvas. The FXDR, it terms of looks is pretty much set it it's ways in terms of styling, but on the other hand, if you want a bike, already tuned and ready to go as is, the FXDR is the way to go. Also in terms of practicality the FXDR has a bigger fuel tank, 5 gal vs the 3.5 in the breakout, I can't for the life of me understand why they downsized the tank on the break out. I think they need to offer aftermarket fuel tank upgrade to add to the capacity of the Street Bob, Fat Bob, and Breakout

Big fan of both bikes. I've owned the Breakout and had the FXDR on loan for a couple of days. Breakout is a lot more comfortable and it's easier to throw bags on for longer trips. FXDR lean angle makes it better in the twisties, but both bikes suffer from a lack of front end feel when pushing hard because of the long rake. Ended up trading the Breakout in on a Low Rider S and i wouldn't trade back for either of these.

I'd have to say I would choose the FXDR over the Breakout. Though if love the new Fat Bob as well.
I'm a Harley traditionalist. My first motorcycle was a 1996 Sportster with a "Blockhead" motor, and I still have a 1982 FXRS with a Shovelhead motor. If you had asked that question 6 months ago, I'd have said the Breakout, since it looks more like a traditional Harley.
BUT, about y weeks ago, I bought a V-Rod. It's a 2013 Night Rod Special. All blacked out and sexy AF. I wanted something more reliable than the Shovelhead, and I read V-Rods were the most reliable bike Harley ever built, but also the least traditional. Well. Test rode one, and immediately fell in love and bought my 13NRS.
It opened my eyes to the new Harley Davidson, and I kind of realized the direction they're going with their lineup. Now I LOVE the FXDR because it does NOT look like a traditional Harley. But I still love the older Harley's as well. No reason you can't love both.
My 1982 FXRS will now be torn down to the frame and completely restored to showroom fresh condition and my V-Rod is my daily driver.
Sometimes opening your mind to new ideas works out, LOL.

I would chose the Breakout over the FXDR - My reason is easy, the looks of the rear end. I'm old school and love the old basic FX/Dyna look. I like having a rear fender and I really don't like the exhaust on the FXDR. Well that's my opinion. Thanks for what you do bro. Later

Test rode FXDR and Fatbob 114 came back the next day to pick up the Fatbob lol! Breakouts look slick but I had a Night Train so it was too similar to that and I wanted a more sportier Harley. Fatbob S fit the bill because the thing literally handled just as well as my CBR F4i with ass-loads of torque to boot!

Man, whatever you end up doing (I suggested a Road King Special with the CVO windshield, check your twitter account for picture) defiantly get a stage 2 cam upgrade. If you dont mind affecting the warranty then do it with the S&S cam you have already. It is like a completely different bike. Not just the increase in torque but the torque curve is much taller and flatter.

It's so hard to choose, they both felt awesome. I think if money wasn't an obstacle I'd grab the breakout, black it out, grab the wheels off the 2017 fxsb and mod the motor obviously lol

I would definitely pick the breakout. Absolutely love the looks of that bike. Would mod it a bit, but not too much. Can always raise it a bit to achieve better lean angles if that was any kind of deal breaker. For me the Breakout has super appeal. It has about the sexiest lines of any bike out there IMHO.

I’d take the Breakout. More of a cruiser style and just seems more comfortable for my riding style. And it looks sick as hell when done up right.

I would probably pick the Breakout because I love the look of it. I'd probably black out a lot of the chrome and put some taller handlebars on it.

I would pick the breakout. It looks more like a Harley. The fxdr to me is just too futuristic looking for my taste. I will say your looks much better with the fender eliminator. But if everyone liked the same thing then they would only need to make one model right? Different bikes for different tastes. They should make a breakout S that is all blacked out. I would love it!

I would choose the breakout because it's got a more traditional look to it. I've always liked the traditional cruiser look.

I’d probably go with the Breakout. Being in my golden years I’m more conservative than I used to be. However I really liked what you did with the FXDR.

Fat Bob should also in the list, Breakout, Fat Bob and FXDR. Top 3 Softail.

I would take your fxdr, but not a stock one, mostly cause of the exhaust. The the look. But I'll take a breakout anyday stock or moded. I'll take any bike with the blockhead touch on it though

On this case I will get the break out, cause I came from a VROD 2014 MUSCLE and I looking for a more chopper style but without loosing to much from my previous bike, which I loved as well. But this bike looks really cool as well as the Breakout CVO Pro Street! Nice video my friend!

Whew! I thought you were considering the breakout as a touring bike. I was like it’s basically the same bike lol. But I wouldn’t take either. I’d take the Fat Boy. Still not what I buy in a bike but I like the style more. It’s a cool looking bike and it’s nostalgic. Terminator rode one and that’s all that matters 😂

I didn’t like the fxdr until I saw it in person. Then I was like, oh wow, I get it. So yeah, good call on the fxdr. I ride a road king special because I do distance, but if I could pick up a bike for local riding I would certainly consider the fxdr. Though, the looks of the 1250 custom prototype has me drooling 🤤

If I only had one bike it would be the breakout. It is more comfortable to me out of the box. If I had multiple bikes it would be the FXDR. It is a lot more bike for the money.

Id go with FXDR, just bcs i love the looks of it way better and it has a way more of a unique look rather than the breakout.. but breakout is bad ass bike as well

I plain don't like the exhaust sticking out the side and I would not modify a new bike So I would choose the Breakout . The solid wheel would be more of a robust design but could be drag sideways in windy riding at highway speed... while the other one is also a robust design and not be so much of a drag in windy condition. Think of if you have lots of potholes or harsh riding condition both would be better than spoke wheels to stay true and not become warp

Breakout lot more comfortable for longer rides. They both look good in different ways. The breakout has more classic bike muscle look to it. Fxdr looks like a night rod muscle look, but not gonna be comfortable over 30 minutes of riding.

I owned a 2013 Breakout for a few years and I LOVED the bike. For me the Breakout Pro Street is the one that tears me up compared to the FXDR, as its much "sportier" but retains that traditional Harley look (has the inverted front end, smaller front tire, is very low to the ground). If I could get the 114 M8 motor in the CVO Pro Street, that would be HUGE. The real decision for me with the FXDR is between it and the Ducati XDiavel...getting sportbike performance or Harley reliability...they are both almost the same exact price (XDiavel is a bit more), both have a very similar look, both are twin cylinder engines, both have forward controls and are belt driven...but one makes about 80hp stock and the other makes 160hp stock, one has true Ohlins sportbike suspension while the other has a true cruiser suspension, the differences being that the Ducati is MUCH MORE maintenance intense, has VERY little dealer support, is MUCH more expensive to modify and is a LOT more expensive to own. You should go test ride one and do a comparison of that to your FXDR, as thats the bike that most of the Non-Harley Fan Boys say to get over the FXDR...but none of them usually acknowledge all the cons of the Ducati (I own a Ducati and a Harley so I am VERY familiar with the pitfalls of each). Performance wise there will be no comparison, but aesthetics and rideability I think are VERY close.

I own an iron 883, and im planning to buy a fat bob in the future. To be frank i was pretty excited about fxdr, but when it came out, all my expectations went down the drain for two reasons. Number one being the price tag( even for breakout, why is it over priced?) Second being it was meant for solo riding, but for people who have better halves who like to ride..fxdr isn't the one for that.
I rode fat bob, and it's an awesome bike, pillion can sit comfortably, you can go touring (with some modifications done to it that is), and it got torque. Fat bob has issues too, like why isn't it having a larger tank? And i wish the front tyre was little slim...other than that i dont have any complaints for fat bob, so that's why fat bob is my choice to go with than an fxdr.

I would pick the fxdr. For sure. There is nothing wrong with the breakout. It is a beautiful bike and I appreciate it, but when I look at the fxdr, I get that feeling in the pit of my stomach. It just turns me on.
If you don’t look back at your bike when you get off of it, you got the wrong bike.

Your bike is cool! I like what you have done to it.
I have a RoadKing for the reason that you are going to sell the FXDR. I can strip it down for around town driving OR dress it up for the long haul trips! Yes she's heavy.......you get used to the weight, If you can have just one motorcycle Ithink the RoadKing is a GREAT all around bike.

The reason I say the Breakout over the FXDR for me is the same reason would choose any bike. 1) Overall looks/lines, 2) Price, 3) how much will it cost to go from stock to what I want it to look like. So I would choose the Breakout over the FXDR because it would cost less money to change it to what I want.

  • @Godlobber

Personally I would choose the Breakout, I've really liked the styling of the Breakout ever since I saw it about 5 years ago on the old soft tail frame. I won't dog on the FXDR but it's just not my style. I will also add that the mods that Blockhead did to his FXDR made it 10X more appealing than the out of the box FXDR.
