Glad you got to drive the car! For anyone who's curious, the car was on used RT660s with about 12 heat cycles before Zygrene took it out this session. As for the clunking, I still have no idea what's causing it. All the mods were put in one go last weekend, and this was basically the shakedown. The car is much more oversteer friendly than the standard BRZ. I'm not nearly as experienced of a driver as the other two who drove my car, so I know feel like I have to re-learn the limits again. Unfortunately, the day after I took the car on the East side, and I think I over-drove the rear tires which already had a good amount of camber wear, and now they're chunking to cords. I'm gonna step down to a set of Firehawk 500s and re-learn the limits of the car with the suspension and brake upgrades.
Mine was clunking also right after I put HKS SP on. It was from the front sway bar end links. They needed to be torqued down again and it made a huge difference. Car handles tighter and no more clunk. We rotated the wheels to far left and far right when we retorqued them.
@@NahBra_EUC thanks! I also got an after market sway bar with adjustable end links. I’ll put those on once they’re here and check the tq after installing
@@shakespeareracing7822 If you install new links, you might encounter it again. Either way, after driving around and getting clunks the retorquing should help.
Any chance you could share your alignment specs/full build if you have it? Curious what rpf1/tire size you ran and if you had any clearance or rubbing issues? also curious about the tires chunking, my buddies 1st gen chunked re71rs in less than 4 track days and it was a huge waste of tire. Figured it was a fluke and the tire was defective
The shift beep sound is the exact same one Subaru used in the GD STi gauge clusters from 02-07. Also the metal pedal faces in the WRX, STi, and BRZ have all been identical going back to the 2002 WRX. Some things never change 🤣
Awesome vid! Really appreciate the honesty. I have no track experience but a 2022 86 coming in a month or so. Looking forward to learning how to drive on track with it and then dabble in some basic track mods to see the difference those can make.
Track days in January. What a joy that must be (it's currently snowing/sleet here on the East coast 25*F). Really like the video format explaining what's going on. That lap timer is pretty cool.
Loving this track content. I like having the 'subtitles' pointing out things and presenting overall thoughts during the footage. One thing I'd love to see would be those performance data graphs that show speed / brake / throttle / gforce / etc over time as a rolling overlay. With some comparison data. I've never seen any videos try to do something like that, but I've been dreaming about it. Would be a great way to learn to read them and associate them with what is happening in the footage. Might require some kind of special solution on the video editing side, not sure. Just sharing the idea
Super fun weekend and I am completely impressed with the new BRZ, I can’t believe how good it is stock. You made a great choice in picking one up, how to see you again next time.
Currently debating Sapphire blue vs WR blue. Haven’t been able to see either in person yet. Any opinion on which looks better? Guess you’re biased since you went with sapphire lol nice lapping
Nice driving. I drove at thunderhill west a few years ago and loved it (during chumpcar), and always wondered how my 2013 FRS would do there. This car looks like it as so much more pickup out of the corners. I also see you are downshifting into 2nd gear in a few corners, then on corner exit overhwhelming the rear tires and shifting into 3rd almost immediately. Did you feel the car could not handle those corners in 3rd? i was thinking probably in the old car it would require that downshift, but wondering if the added torque lower down in the new car if you can get away without it. Nice vid man! End was pretty hilarious
Awesome video! Couple questions: 1. Did the modded BRZ exhibit less understeer after the suspension mods? 2. What were your S2000’s lap times on this track? Thanks.
@@Zygrene Thank you for taking the time to reply. It will be interesting to see how it stacks up to the S2K as you start modding and get more seat time in the gen2 86. I love both chassis.
I like to see the new BRZ be put to good use. Ordered mince for spring! :) Also, when arriving it pits, never put e-brake on. This can cause hot-spots on the rotors as heat get trapped. Best put it in gear instead CheeRS!
Do they have a pad for this car yet that works on both street and track without making a ton of noise? I got away with doing that with EBC yellows about ten years ago on an RX8.
Negative comments: wow, that beeping is annoying as hell!! Also, those air fresheners can cause cancer “Formaldehyde is well documented as a carcinogen, and it is present in significant amounts in many air fresheners. Exposure can cause cancer as well as major respiratory issues like asthma, wheezing, bronchitis, and eye, throat, and nose issues.” - no way would I have that in my cars. Positive comments: looks like fun! The new 86’s are really growing on me! If I haven’t just bought an S2000, I’d definitely be looking into a new 86 👍🏼
@@Zygrene So would you say for someone who is looking for a track car to build upon, its probably better to get the first gen and use the spare cash to mod it up? My ideal car is an s2000 but they are just way too expensive in Australia, and 350z and 370z they dont seem to be as popular as a track weapon
I'm not familiar with those coil-overs but if they use pillow-ball top bushings that may have been your clunking noise. Tein Mono-sports did the same to me in my STI.
Thanks Bob, I'll see if that's what it was. I got them used and I know they're a very high-end set up, but I don't fully understand them yet. I've had them on the car for a week, I'll try to bring it to someone who knows this set up better and see if they can give feedback.
Good video can definitely do with out the unreasonable punishment of the car at the end but other than that i cant wait to see a stock nd2.0 vs the brz!!
looking to get into tracking my s2k (or maybe even getting a GR86/BRZ to go track with) but not familiar with the costs and prep requirements... do u prefer thunderhill over laguna seca or vice versa? any major difference in cost for each of those tracks? I live in between both so they're similar distance for me :)
Camber bolts from first Gen might work for gen 2. Camber plates are pretty cheap if you plan to stay with stock dampers but need more camber than bolts can provide. 💪
Did you have to buy two separate entries, one for the skid pad and one for west? I'd love to be able to use the skid pad between sessions but I had no idea if that was allowed or not
@@Zygrene That's odd. I have seen others post that they ran the same wheels and had to put on 10mm spacers. They did run wider tires though, 255/40 I believe.

What mod are you looking forward to doing the most? Always love seeing the new brz on track!
Driver mod, by far
Why the difference in camber and also how did you measure it?
what times were you putting down in the stock BRZ?
How did you guys arrive at those aftermarket wheel and tire specs? Have you tested different setups?
The owner just went with this setup because it was likely to fit, which it did. Haven't tested any other wheel or tire setups yet
I’m looking to run 17x9 +45 wheels with 245/40/17 RS4s. I read you’re going to try that setup. Any luck? Rubbing?
What was the TC setting you were using? How did the setting compare to pedal dance or 10 sec hold on gen 1 cars
Good video, but did you put the handbrake on after coming off track with hot brakes? Dont do that, just put the car in gear.
Does the modded car have the Trueno Blue color?
what mods would you recommend to install to make the car understeer less, but without going full track setup?
What size are the Falkens??
Dont they usually wet skid pans to save tyres?
Handlling wise does it feel just like the 1st gen? I suppose there wont be a massive difference in the characteristics ?
