I'm heading to Thunderhill West for the first time this coming weekend. AWESOME commentary, thanks. So much better than just watching a 15 minute DE session...
Awesome video , thanks for education . I was at Thunder hill Sept . 4 as a passenger which which can be strange since I always drive . Fun to watch video and remembering the experience and labeling the corners . Thanks
Showing my appreciation for your effort and commentary on posting this video. It provides really valuable information for 1st drivers to the track! Kudos!
What you said about T8 uphill blind apex is so true. Scary not seeing where you are going, but once you navigate a few times it very satisfying going through it.
‘97 Miata, stock, stripped and 120 hp. 😱 Well done! I’m taking my ‘87 Alfa Spider here on 8/2/18, with my SCCA buddies from Reno and will share this on our website.
This is super great video! very very helpful. Thank you so much! I watched this four times, then practiced a few hours on Assetto Corsa, then watched this again for 2 more times before I actually went to the track
It's so nice to know that you did your homework before going to the track. I'm sure you got a lot more out of your track day because of that. I wish everyone had your attitude!
I wish I had seen this video before my last trip to Thill West. But then, I also wish it hadn't rained there during the morning. Either way, saving this video and tips for next time!
Thank you for the great track guide, as previously stated the race narration was especially cool. Wish you did these for more tracks! A question on braking zones, which corners are you trail braking?
The T1 right-hander goes off camber, so you could get in too deep if you trail-brake that too much. T2 doesn't require braking in my car, but maybe in a faster car it would. The T3 kink I like to take under power to pin the rear down, so that's definitely not a trail-brake corner. T4 is the most important corner on the track, and you want to get rotation done early to throttle up as soon as possible. So some trail-braking here is important if you're going fast enough. T6 is just a brush of the brakes and then trying to keep speed without running off the track in the middle between T6 and T7. T7 is definitely a trail-braker. T8 requires no braking. T9 is slow and more than 90, which automatically makes you think rotation is important, but it's a throw-away corner and you should focus more on setting up T10. T10 is definitely a trail-braking corner as it's a typical Type I corner.
Very informative video but the throttle/braking line at 0:55 is very misleading especially for beginners. Throttle/braking inputs vary from car to car or even setup/tires. Many of the turns you green lined can't possibly be full throttle with a heavier car or a slightly more powerful car.
At the time this was made, that was the only option. I've seen a couple groups run it the other way and that sounds like a lot of fun. I should fix the title.
I did a track day yesterday on my bike, and at the riders meetng they said we would go clockwiae, I studied the track counterclockwise): lol still a fun day, and awesome video and race man 🏁
At least they gave me credit at the end. Here's a video where the text is verbatim from my blog and they didn't give any attribution: th-cam.com/video/HB_oSN9ajhI/w-d-xo.html

Have fun. If you're being timed, I wish you good fortunes and fast laps.
@@IanKorf much appreciated. It's an SCCA Time Trial, so we'll definitely be on the clock

@@IanKorf thank you! It went way better than my expectation. I actually did 1.30.9 in my s2k, very happy with the time as a first timer
@@yifengchen I would be too.
Nice commentary! I'm going here in a few days so this was very educational. Hope I can be half as fast as you.

Easy solution: get a slower car :)
counterclockwise 2 mile west

Looks like BMWCCA 'borrowed' this video for instructional purposes too haha
