Either the Fiesta ST or GR86. Probably the GR86 but the ST is cheaper but obviously nothing can beat the fun of a GR86.

I have a Gen 1 BRZ (well, I have the Toyota 86 version) and I fell in love the instant I drove one. It's the best handling, most engaging car I've ever driven. I haven't driven that many cars, but I have had a mustang gt, and a cobalt SS, am Acura TL type S, and I've ridden in others. I have my 86 running with headers and E-85 so I imagine it feels extremely similar in power to the Gen 2 and I tell you, I wouldn't trade this car for any other. Period. I plan on continuing to love and improve my 86 for as many years as I possibly can.

I used to mod my cars when I was a teen (29 now), and only recently after having a regular ol' sensible i30 for 5 years did I decide to bite the bullet after years of temptation. Bought a 2013 BRZ December last year, and in the short 5 months I've owned it it has immediately become my favourite car I've ever owned. I've owned/modded a lancer, commodore (VX2), s2000 and even a 300Z, and nothing comes close to the amount of fun I have in my BRZ. Gave her UEL headers, a simple catback and some coilovers w/ half decent tyres and somehow it made the car even MORE fun. Definitely the car I stick with for as long as it'll run.
It's also fun waving at other 86/BRZ owners on the road too, cool little community!

I’m Stoked for the Focus ST, we can’t get these here anymore in the US, I currently own a 2014 Fiesta ST that I bought new, it’s on a Cobb stage two tune, short shift kit, beefier motor mounts, 3” MBPR exhaust and sticky Mitchlen tires, it has 97,000+ miles on it and still runs great, I’m on my 6th set of tires, that’s how hard I drive it, my friends can’t believe I still have my stock clutch. I’m 73 years young and still love driving on three wheels. The Fiesta Flash 🤙🏼🍺🍺🍺

Give the person behind the camera a raise! So many beautiful shots throughout.
Edit: I figured I'd give my thoughts while I'm here. Gotta say I've been struggling a lot on whether I want to put my money down on a brz/86 or a GR Yaris. My brain loves the Yaris but my heart loves the brz/86.
From factory, the Yaris seems setup to perfection for endless fun and performance, but I find myself disliking the interior, mainly the infotainment setup. I also wish it came with factory options for a rally style spoiler and lip, diffuser+skirts like Tom's racing has available. The styling feels a little awkward without those touches to me.
The brz/86 on the other hand I love with every fibre of being, inside and out. Its modern classic interior and refreshing body lines are unmatched for me. I'm sure there would be times I wish I had a sports car that can throw me back in my seat with boost and make me laugh from how excessive it is, but it's a beautiful machine that I know I would enjoy more from its holistic approach. It's truly a love letter to enthusiasts and the price is right.
    Great video 🙂

    Well that is good news.
I am ordering a BRZ, S coupe, manual in WR blue this week.
I know the colour is common as dirt but it says Subaru and
to be honest, I like the colour.
It is good value, looks stunning in my opinion and is
a real sports car, front engine, rear wheel drive manual.
I'm not bothered about lack of turbocharging and if you
are as old as me (60) you will notice the 0 - 100kmh
and the standing 400m time betters the legendary
Ford XY GTHO Falcon and E49 Charger (Wheels & SCW)
Sure there is a 50 odd year gap in technology
and weight differences but the BRZ gives away horsepower
and torque to both these Aussie icons.
I can afford a BRZ, plus those seat warmers will be appreciated
by me and my girl's.......um......mature bottoms🙂

@@wayward03 Congrats, hope delivery goes as planned for you mate.
I was looking at Mustangs, but couldn't justify the $73K Aussie dollars
for a new one or $60K for low mileage used.
I will pay $43500 for the new top spec(S) BRZ and may be able to keep my
68 Mercury Marquis 390 Coupe to play with.......maybe?🤔
As for sound I will see what it is like, have been sussing out
some exhaust vids and the ARK something? catback, sounds good.
I would hate it to be too loud or droney? on the highway though.

But 'Sportscar of the Year' is exactly what needed to happen. In my opinion FUN is the most important factor. Faster, lap times, power doesn't always equal more fun. Well done MOTOR. However, MY 2023 is not available for test drive in my country and I have only driven the previous first generation brz which I really liked. I would like a quick comparison in this area with the other cars presented here and with the ford fiesta mk8 (my 2023) which is my second choice. The MX5 has no practicality whatsoever. It’s a toy. People buying these cars are often buying their “only car” so the fact that if you lay the BRZ’s useless rear seats flat, you can put a lot of stuff in it, is not an inconsiderable factor. I had an ND RF and it was a great little car. But if my wife and I were going away for any longer than a weekend, we had to take her car. The RF couldn’t take more than one airline sized carry-on. The BRZ can easily swallow two maximum sized airline suitcases and some. But, all other considerations aside, the BRZ is the equal of the MX5 from a driving experience…unless you require topless motoring which only the MX5 can provide.

Great review. I bought a GR Rallye Yaris and I must say I was shocked to see the 0-100km/hr time. It's really that fast? It sure doesn't feel like it. After a year of owning it I'm still unsure whether I love it or not however, mostly because the only time it's any real fun is when you're thrashing it to the limit. It's also a car that doesn't reward delicate inputs. It's either grab it by the neck and strangle it or it doesn't move. I wouldn't call it flowing. More on/off, almost like a car that you're waiting to be run-in but it never happens. Driven slowly it's boring, almost to the point of being dull. It even sounds boring. My Dyson vacuum cleaner sounds more interesting. And your point about the Focus Still being great to drive, even at slower speeds, is a good one. 90% of the time these cars are going to be driven at 40km/hr on freeways, watching out for speed cameras. Sometimes fast doesn't always mean exciting and this test is proof positive that you can more fun in a much slower car. Well done Subaru/Toyota for sticking to the core value of that little coupe.
