"This Game has the highest potential out of any product on the market" Truer words have never been spoken. Long time players know how good Destiny 2 can be. We know you can do better Bungie... we literally saw you do better with Forsaken & Witch Queen ffs
They’ve shown they can make solid quality content even as far back as the Taken King. And as someone who’s played the game since it’s inception I’m deeply depressed how far it’s fallen.
Yes and we still get on it every season to get everything done they areant pushing out enough content for players who get everything done and get bored if you are a top tier player you dont get any fun out of playing past the first 2 months tops unless your a streamer and make it into a job
@@ArborvitarThough, if Bungie were still making games, they'd be in the same boat as 343, maybe even worse. And no, I'm not a 343 fanboy, I just like Halo.
They did say their biggest fear as a studio is “over delivery”. Oh the horror, I got a lot of nice content. It pisses me off. I played this Destiny since it’s launch nearly 10 years ago and it sucks to see the game I grew up playing just be neglected Another thing to note is back when Bungie and Activision were still partners, Bungie had the help of several satellite studios to make content. The Zero Hour mission and Whisper of the Worm, some of what many consider still to be the best secret exotic quests in the game’s history, we’re both made by these studios. The largest expansion ever made in the game’s history, Forsaken, was also made with the help of these studios. After Activision’s departure and the subsequent departure of satellite studios, both the quantity and quality of new Destiny releases have been on a steady decline while also getting larger price tags. It wasn’t long after this during a corporate meeting that a Bungie executive said that game development should be like a train. Pump out the new content quickly then move on. The quality doesn’t matter so much as long as there’s more to come. This alongside their statement about over delivery, which says they don’t want to raise expectations for players, does not bode well for their future projects and releases. They want the player base to get used to the lower standard of content and not expect anything big. Otherwise they would have to spend more resources to make more content for the next expansion. There’s a lot more that was said in that meeting, but this comment is long enough
I agree. It’s sad, really. Unfortunately, to Bungie, Destiny is just a cash cow. It’s all about the numbers and the player engagement time. More players and longer playtime = a hell of a lot more money. Destiny is not about the players anymore; it’s all about raking in the dough. The only thing Bungie is concerned with is how to make the most amount of profit with the least amount of effort 😑👎
Seeing even Charlie come out and talk about the State of the Game really does just show how bad that post was. I’m glad this information is spreading far even outside just the Destiny Community
Omelette is pretty sure that bungie knows that the player base will plumet after the light and dark saga. And instead of thinking of interesting ways to expand upon the story (Of which there are hundreds of examples of unexplored lore to use) they're just trying to shake as much money our of the community as possible with useless and rarely good looking cosmetics. Pretty sad really.
you do know that the more people speak about destiny, the more bungie will do this. this is what they want lmao, and yall are giving them all that attention and coming back to the game.
I stayed up for 52 hours with my homies and we beat the main story and of course fucked around in between. Some of the best gaming moments, but probably not my best health moment
Those 52 hours must have been mentally exhausting but also so goddamn funny at the same time because your kissing partners are playing with you, W homies.
Bro 52 hours is getting into the territory of risking death. Actually that’s only a little more than two days. I think my worst was probably 3+ days but I get severe insomnia occasionally. And there may have been adderall involved with a few of them
the fact that they came out and said that they believe that overdelivering is the worst thing they could do says an incredible amount about their work ethic and their understanding of what the community needs in order to keep going
The funniest thing is they are kind of right because with season of opulence they executed so well but after that they couldn’t keep up. Not an excuse to sandbag your game but there is a precedent that they could’ve avoided
@@Tinsiltim True, I've been following this game for years and usually it has ups and downs, people expected that to happen and that's okay. Like for example in the Forsaken annual passes we got a pretty decent season in Black Armory, then we got a Gambit-focused season which many people didn't like that much, then we got the best season ever in Season of Opulence, and that is actually very expected with a very welcoming surprises here and there such as secret mission like Zero Hour. Nowadays is just constant downs and no ups since they're afraid to be over-deliver doing as bare minimum as they can but increasing the price of the season and separating dungeon to be a paid package on it's own to gain as much money as they can, it's disgusting.
They were right though! People complain about paying for dungeons because Prophecy was free! People complain about expansions because they overworked themselves on Forsaken and it's unsustainable. Every time you over deliver, that overdelivery becomes the new baseline expectation.
Same. This is the only season I haven't played and want to get back into it. The moment "Destiny 2" comes out of the mouth of a non dedicated Destiny content creator you know it's not good news.
@xxdeviousv2 absolutely! It's heartbreaking seeing something that I and so many other loves declining like this. I really hope Bungie starts caring again
It's actually astounding how many game companies are just outright coming out and saying "game production is hard, we don't want to try anymore" and actively shitting on games that do.
Devs and companies stopped caring about players. The Micro-transactions killed gaming, because everyone copied it and now there is no good games. They're all copies, duplicates and bad. The only good games, died out.
It's the "mid" problem. No one wants to make or purchase a piece of media that is seen as low budget or low quality. So we run into this spot where corpos are making products that need to make 30M in the first second to break even and customers only want high cinema for everything they consume. We basically need a return of the mid tier content, good games that aren't AAA quality but worth 40 dollars
the consumers are partly responsible tbh. if something is bad, don't consume it. don't give companies a chance to think that mediocrity is the standard.
Nah Bungo won't. The amt of times they had to turn off an Exotic because it was too op and say it's a bug is a meme now in the D2 community. Highly doubt they would listen this time around about this. Even tho everyone thats a pvper also complained for years with the state of pvp.. Good thing I left such an abusive relationship..
This is how Bungie handled Gambit: 1- Release Gambit in Forsaken: some people like it, some people don't. That's fine. 2- The Reckoning Update: A high-stakes revamp of Gambit that featured new mechanics and armour/weapons to chase with Gambit Prime. 3- Sunsetting: All the loot and armour you grinded? Bye bye. Gambit Prime? Bye bye. Reckoning? Bye Bye. Maps? Half of them are gone. 4- Neglect for literally two years. 5- Slight revamp: Heavy ammo still the most meta way to invade and DPS; HP-gated the bosses resulting in longer games. 6- "Unfortunately, these updates didn’t move the needle for player engagement. Although we know our Gambit fans mostly care about new or returning maps, this is an area of the game with lower engagement that would take resources away from more popular parts of the game to shore up." Let me spell it out for you Bungie: you literally ruined the Gambit game-mode through a mix of bad decisions, stagnancy, and neglect and then have the gall to say that we want new and returning maps after you have literally gutted Prime/Reckoning and removed them from the game. What a tone-deaf and, frankly, insulting response. What Gambit players wanted was actual change and review to the core mechanics of the game-mode, as well as the possible inclusion of mechanics YOU TOOK AWAY when you removed Gambit prime; you can keep the fucking maps that were sunset, just give us back what you took.
I came into D2 in season of arrivals, when gambit was at its peak. It was my favorite game mode, i got all the gambit weapons (had the most fun in the game using hush) all the armor maxed out, and then they took basically all of it away. I stopped playing d2 for 2 years after that, didn't give a shit about anything they added to the game because they ruined what gave me the most joy playing the game, all my favorite weapons? Gone. Favorite game mode? Butchered. Destiny 2? Uninstalled
My dad, brother, and I quit playing a few years ago because the amount of FOMO pressure was just insane and was ruining our enjoyment. We all still really miss it.
You can just come back and have fun. Even though Lightfall sucks(apparently) and content is dry there is loads to do when returning after a long break. Just ignore the FOMO and enjoy the game when you can, and quit when you can’t. That’s what I always do
He’s really not that invested, you can see in his streams how clueless he is most of the time. I’m pretty sure he’s just repeating what he saw on Twitter, or what his friends told him. Even in this video you can see the disconnect between the video version and the live part. He didn’t know that the major complaint for pvp was the lack of map because he hasn’t played it in 4 years. He doesn’t care that much
@@ekkaar this is becoming a very common issue with charlie, he isnt taking the time to understand anything. hes so overwhelmed with so much he straight up asks his chat to explain things to him an then he'll come on youtube and make a video, knowing it will get a lot of views. sadly this is what seems to be ruining his content. no real effort, just relying on his chat. just recently he messed up with this with the Anthony fantano and activision lawsuit. he was completely wrong yet he posted his video to his millions of fans giving them a completely wrong idea about it all and then everyone shat on fantano even tho fantano is in the right! he got people to defend a shitty billion dollar company because he just spews out misinformation because his chat tells him its "the facts" im glad people are speaking up and beginning to call him out. he doesnt need to speak on every issue, especially when he admittely knows nothing about it.
My team felt the same about Root. Doing the raid in about 5 hours left us unfulfilled. In Kings Fall, we had finished with a few hours remaining. Feeling absolutely euphoric after battling for 17 hours. A moment my team will never forget.
Skeletor put it best. "If I am paying for all these expansions, cosmetics, and season passes, then how come they say they have a lack of resources?? Where is all the money going??"
I’m more sad than angry, it’s super depressing seeing a game you’ve made so many memories with friends in and have put so much time into sink into mediocrity at the finish line. I truly hope Bungie can get it back together but unfortunately I won’t be there anymore even if they do, too much trust has been broken.
Speaking as someone who stopped playing Destiny in the early days when they FIRST lied about everything the game was supposed to be, you all missed the boat and I don't feel bad for your emotional attachment to the IP being obliterated. They are vampires.
I quit Destiny for a year and came back for Lightfall. Worst. Decision. Ever. Wish I had at least waited until The Final Shape. But now I’m planning on just watching Byf and Myelin for the rest of the story…
Sometimes I join destiny 2 randomly missing my weapons, my armors, the history I made playing this game from annoying tutors on raids from how dumb I was, to teaching others how to complete the same raid, From losing and getting T-bagged on to winning and doing a little dance, from spending hours looking at the sky of open maps and admiring a good old weapon design to splatting on floors from glitches and skating bugs… I miss the old times but it’s simply not worth it anymore.
I still talk to and play games with two of the guys i joined an LFG for on our first clear of crota. Never had closer friends. We started taking our little vacations from destiny and after we had a good fill of witch queen we finally decided to let d2 go. I completely agree with you that it's nothing but sadness when we hear news about destiny now. Such good memories and bonds made in the destiny games and now it's just a rotting corpse to me. So glad me and my buddies were able to find other games to enjoy together instead of slowly drifting apart.
Charlie videos are like getting into the car with your dad and he starts talking about the most random thing out of nowhere so you listen to humor him but then he actually makes it interesting so you actually participate in the discussion
I still maintain that Root of Nightmares was originally a dungeon and they inserted the planets encounter. Every encounter minus the planets can be done with 3 people and be slightly challenging.
@@angel_of_rustThis kind of video reaches more people than the usual Destiny space. If more people outside of the community start talking about how terrible the state of D2 is, Bungie might start listening.
Strongly agree with you on the potential of the game, the movement and gunplay can feel so smooth and fun just needs that last little bit of polishing (balancing) and it just never comes or at least in a reasonable time.
You hit the nail on the head there. I was blown away during destiny 1 TTK i had never played a game like it and it truly was a unique experience yet for some reason they just cant polish the formula to perfection and it would be fair to say the game has got worse since destiny 1 which is so insane as destiny truly is a great franchise but they care more about micro transactions and copy and paste filler expansions.... Sigh
As someone who was an OG and played Halo: CE, I had always looked forward for Destiny to light that "spark" of wonder and awe I had experienced with the first Halo. They had teased it in such a way that gave me hope that the Chief, while gone, would be reminiscent in this new game--that being the raw gunplay and sharp FPS, which Destiny had in spades. Even though it wasn't supposed to be like Halo, nor did I expect that, I just wished they put the same heart into making Destiny. Instead, they had to design it in a way that they could release chunks of integral story to keep people hooked and playing for years. All while dousing it with microtransactions and cosmetics. It's a shame it's so good but just shy of being great or even masterful. Your analogy is spot on and pretty unfortunate on their part. What a letdown.
It really sucks that they’re treating Destiny this way. They’ve shown, even in recent years, that they can make good content. But I guess they don’t really feel like.
I do honestly hate the state of game now, I played during the first two seasons and completing the Calus raid with friends was a very fond memory, then when I had to get a new account and logged on years later, I found the game completely changed, with the story and PVE being practically gutted, the grind was absolutely decimating and I quickly stopped playing, thank you for speaking out Charlie
On the one hand, I kinda get it. It's hard to continually impress people and perpetually raise the bar; you manage expectations by doing it slowly, or managing the highs and lows. But it's clear that they aren't even delivering; they aren't even under delivering. It's like everybody at the Dominoes haven't shown up for work, but people are still paying them to not do anything. They took the mentality of "building community trust before profit", and made it "Backstab the community by ditching them altogether while commiting highway robbery for the amount they paid us."
I wouldn’t say they are abnormal given how greedy all game companies are it’s the Normal now unfortunately. If anything it’s slightly cheaper lmao but still greedy
honestly the only team that I KNOW is putting effort forward is their music & sound production team, even in the RON soundtrack, Oneirophobia gleams essence of no other
Yes, OST and sound design is always on point. There are some guns I use just because I like how they sound and I never heard a sound track I didn't like. I'm glad that during Lightfall marketing campaign, Bungie shed some light on the sound design team and composers.
As a Destiny veteran, it hurts my heart to see the direction of a game I cherished for a long time has come to this. This State of the Game was a massive L that Bungie just handed out to all its players.
They've been really good at "just handing things out" over the past few years. Aspirational content is nonexistent and the entire game is so easy and power crept it's a joke
My only issue with Destiny is the fact 80% of the story literally has no accessibility to learn and explore, there's 21 seasons of content that is locked away forever with no way to understand the events of each season to catch up to the main story that's going on, The Red War, Forsaken, Curse Of Osiris is all sunset which was literally all content that had zero reason to be removed. We need this content to be accessible to the newlights that will never be able to experience the pure excitement of the story building.
@jonnydude69 Yeah, I remember pre-ordering Forsaken years ago. If I knew that a DLC I paid a good chunk of money on would be removed in the future, I would have never bothered. I personally think the DLC aren't the worst of it though since it's easy to follow by watching some playthrough, the seasonal stories that build up the DLC is where the main underlying issue is as there's no accessibility or even explanations within game besides a mini description in the timeline, with the profits they make you'd expect at the very least a in detail cinematic for each season as at least an optional thing to emmerse yourself in if newlights would like to learn the whole story thus far, even if the explanations are their ink splash cutscenes that would be more than enough to make me and many others happy.
I mean they def should've kept the campaign and Leviathan, but was there any reason to be visiting Mercury, Titan, or Mars up to the release of BL? (Edit: I completely forgot about Io lmao)
@starch1313 I didn't follow seasonal content, so I'm not sure, but just keeping them there would make the Destiny universe feel much bigger, I don't really care about locations though since it's mainly the story side of Destiny I actually think is extremely lacking.
youtube exists for these things. That content being removed was a good thing because NOBODY played it again after the first time, youre straight up lying if you say otherwise.
almost 10k hrs across console and pc even though i know i wont quit the game, i do often find myself questioning why i continue to put time into a game the devs seem to almost neglect.... i love the game and the universe within it, but i cant help but feel like we as the community are just being strung along with bread crumbs eternally ....
Same boat here. Just under 10k hours, near max triumph score, numerous low man raids, nearly all GMs solo, around 200 flawless cards, etc. Game's getting easier and more boring every update, offering even less and less to veteran players. They don't listen to feedback, and double down on things that are universally hated (battlegrounds as GMs, fireteam mm, etc)
I’ve been a huge Destiny apologist for years, and this post has got even me sending tomatoes Bungie’s way. If Final Shape isn’t good, that’s it for me. 2k hours and hundreds of dollars on expansions gone
Spent 9 hours I think on deep stone second encounter, totally conquer, that euphoria hit after beating Atraks was the highest of highs I ever felt in Destiny. The spacewalk after made you want to cry tears of bliss after going through hell like that.
my whole thing is that I have most of the campaigns apart for the Witch Queen and LightFall, and I find it annoying that I've paid for these campaigns but can't play them. I feel like there should be a separate tab so that I can replay the campaigns like Foresaken and The Red War. I bought them, I should be allowed to play/use things I've paid for.
charlie THANK YOU for making this video, they dont listen to us so im happy to see someone influential speak up for us. im also happy and surprised to see how youre passiate about the game and want to see it be better.
I played destiny back in d1 when it first came out. Its fantasy and mysticism really drew me in. Ive made some memorable friends and moments in the game that i will think of fondly. Just floating in orbit listening to the music is so surreal.
I fucking miss the feeling of D1, doing Crotas End, the OG trials lighthouse, then getting the Kings Fall raid and then the Wrath of the Machine raid with the fucking AMAZING soundtrack of that final expansion, I just have such nostalgic feels for it. The remix of the strike for Sepiks perfected is just what plays when I think of Destiny 1.
I'll never forget in the destiny 1 rise of iron they said "we always have new maps" and we got 3 for it being a last minute dlc with only a small team. That's more than in the past 4 years
couldn’t agree more, i too remember having fantastic memories doing raids on destiny 1. even though i was complete garbage compared to my friends, it was still just so much fun. ill never forget the rewards you would get after grinding that extremely difficult raid like siva, just felt so amazing. destiny 2 was pretty good when it started off too in my opinion, but as soon as they started pumping out garbage dlc that was practically pay to win i was just not sold anymore. really hope they turn things around. to this day i search for “destiny-like” games hoping to itch that niche
I have never seen anything remotely like pay to win, ever. If you're talking about the deep sight resonance, you still have to grind the fuck out of whatever weapons you need, unless you happen to have a shit ton of copies lying around for patterns. You still have to grind the battle pass unless you want to dump money, and even then you still get the same shit as just playing, there's high stat armor available from pinnacle drops and random loot pools. There is nothing pay to win. The literal only thing I can think of is an ornament for a fugly ass exotic who's normal state kinda blocks some screen when ADS but that's *one ornament* for a raid exotic in an entire game.
@@AllenGray47 maybe not by the book pay to win, I more so just didnt like the whole spend $60 on a game, and spend $60 more for dlcs to enjoy it. i guess thats just a destiny thing though
@@AllenGray47you are thinking of paywall where you are denied something if u dont pay. If you can get an item at a faster rate (or instantly) through paying then its by definition pay to win, considering those who dont pay for it get it at a much slower time
@@arian.1K you also need to understand that there arent really any other games that have a continuing plot like destiny does. Wow comes close, but their content drip is much slower.
THANK YOU FOR COVERING THIS I recently came back to play after not playing since year one and being completely out of the loop from everything. Holy crap have they bent their loyal fans over HARD. As someone returning I’m fine with most stuff going on right now content wise because everything at this point to ME is new for not playing for over 5-6 years. But my god they really have said “get porked” to the users.
I was an Alpha tester for Destiny, and played everything up until right before the Dreaming City opened in D2. I used to love the game, and lore, but it never really felt like a full game… ever. Any update was beaten in a couple hours and their updates never kept me interested after a while. It was sad. They had so much potential.
Same here since alpha. Stopped playing shortly before forsaken, but even then I did not purchase the new expansions (at the time, it was the Osiris one and the other I forget, I think warmind maybe?) because I was already feeling that fatigue you mentioned before you stopped playing. I ended up hopping back on for beyond beyond light, which was cool to hop back on but it seemed like someone took the old rusty car I didn’t much care for anymore and tried to paint over it without treating the rust and replacing old parts. I stopped again after about 3-6 months or so, especially since all of my friends stopped playing shortly after the first dlc came out so I was basically solo the whole time. Sad because destiny 1, for all of its flaws, was such a fun, memorable game. I distinctly remember getting gjallarhorn in its heyday by way of legendary engram. It was crazy, I turned it into master rahool and told my buddy “man if this is g horn I’m gonna freak” and it literally out of all the possible items it could be and the chance it would even be an exotic, out pops g horn. I was utterly ecstatic. I remember playing the devils lair on repeat during the beta because I couldn’t get enough out of the game, and even after it came out it was still my favorite strike. The music was amazing, skyboxes and drifting in orbit around planets and moons was peaceful. My one buddy who I no longer talk to used to go to this one place at the cosmodrome where a particular rock was overlooking a really neat piece of scenery where the giant crashed container ships were. We called it the rock of reflection and would just chill there from time to time. Anyway, just sad to see the state of the game. I won’t be returning, but Starfield I’m hoping reinvigorates my love for gaming that has seemingly been extinguished within the last 5 or so years.
@@dredgenmayo8210 sadly the years of commitment I put in never felt like it amounted to anything in the grand scheme of the games. I had fun, but the game never quite felt like it was whole, like the feeling I wanted from it was always out of reach. I just couldn’t commit my time and money to it anymore.
@@dredgenmayo8210real, when you just kept unlocking and finding more and more and more content it was so fucking cool. It's why I can't really get back into destiny, because I know it'll never even be close to that good again
as someone who stopped playing 5 months ago and i deleted the game off my pc and xbox 2 months ago i’ve dropped it and i won’t be coming back unless they actually change and drop something i want to play and download a 100+ gigabyte game. i think the game is dead i don’t think bungie will change hell in a sweatcicle video he even talked about an ex-developer for bungie that told him “we don’t care if you’re mad and hate the game because you’ll still play and talk about so unless you’re apathetic and quit we won’t try to overachieve” i believe that was the quote. so i’m done and i don’t care for the game anymore also this is a week 1 destiny 1 player so i’m a real veteran and not someone who picked it up last year so i have real memories and fondness for the game and community but now i feel apathetic and if they shut down tomorrow i won’t care. also i feel bad for the current players being banged into the ground because bungie dropped you guys off for this new game that looks like ass. also i’ll say this because it’s true. IF YOU STICK WITH THIS GAME AND KEEP PLAYING YOU DESERVE A SHIT GAME. this is true if you’ll keep playing when it’s shit bungie won’t try to do better they’ve said it themselves
Some days i used to LFG people who needed help doing Whisper, Outbreak, Thorn, Xenophage, and other exotic missions. Once (twice actually) I kidnapped someone from the tower and took them into their first raid. If your wondering how. 1. Sit in tower and raid report people. 2. When you find your target, join on them (if you can). 3. Talk to them and see if their interested. Head to orbit. 4. 4 people suddenly join out of nowhere. Spook them. 5. Teach raid, have fun, and enjoy yourselves. 6. This is optional but this is my scenario. Become great friends that last for years.
Deep stone crypt holds my most fond memories with destiny 2, yelling at my friends, us all laughing, them yelling at me, people I haven't spoke to since. I've completed root of nightmares, i have no idea how to do it, nor do I really care about learning it. I agree that root felt half baked, and it really feels like it since only two people need to do mechanics for 75% of the raid. The state of destiny 2 is really sad, it's been bleeding out for some time now, but the wound keeps getting bigger every expansion.
Dsc is just a good model for a raid. Good opening great boss fights unique mechanics that don't spoon feed you. Like any time I run that with friends going chaos on descent is the most fun in the game
My biggest thing with Destiny was that I had a friend that I actually got so addicted to the first one that he completely dropped anything and everything to do with me and another buddy I had, and I was just with the first Destiny game, and the second one came out and it was just even worse, and games like that are just a complete and total grind fest. Games that are excessively grindy or ones that I just turn on WeMod for if it's single player. Regardless, after saying how they handled their massive free to play Halo game, yeah they kind of lost me
Having you talk on this definitely helps shine a light on how bad it's gotten. There's always hope that the ship can be steered back to better waters, but man is it rough sailing for Destiny fans.
Fr, I gave up on the game, no maps for 3 or 4 years, and the PS4 version has been almost unplayable with game breaking bugs for 2 freaking years straight with no fixes, and if your a solo player like me who can't pay the $70 a year for dlc you have no new content, ever...
Glad you're talking about this. Bungie needs to know that this kind of attitude is completely unacceptable, and what better way to do that than have people who aren't usually hands on with the community, expressing their disappointment.
Its not even the fact they aren't putting effort, its because they CAN'T the higher ups of bungie are holding the design team from making a expansion like final shape. The final shape is basically a way if saying " here is what our expansions could've been if we werent held back " its poor management from the higher ups
The sad thing is, even for all the shit we give them; Bungie still has a talented group of developers that work on and do good things, but are completely handicapped and squandered in their own creativity to do good for not just the game, but for the comnunity as a whole by both higher ups and management to not “overdeliver” seasonal and expansion content. Charlie said it best in that “Destiny 2 has so much potential to be a great if not incredible game”, but as said, their top priority is not to overdeliver to their community, but instead underdeliver.
Activision was 100% keeping the devs in line and actually demanding that they do work. If nothing else they were making sure the game was being updated.
agreed. Say what you want about Activision but as seen with CoD and Warzone they actually look that the devs finish their shit. You can say a lot about CoD being unoriginal or imitating itself, but you cant argue they are finished, polished titles, and the content coming in is always refreshing.
@@the_Googie It's honestly really disturbing how easily Bungie convinced us all that Activision was the problem when in reality they're just a horrible developer.
One more thing, it was Bungie who suggested Microtransactions to Activision, contrary to what many think Activision did not force Microtransactions into the game. I would say that letting Bungie go was the best decision Activision made, as everything bad about Destiny was placed on Activision's shoulders instead of Bungie's, and I see a lot of Fanboy these days trying to create the narrative that the current problems are Sony's fault and not Bungie's. Bungie had to redo the contract with Activision several times, due to sheer incompetence when it failed to fulfill the agreements that it itself made with Activision, Destiny 1 for example was to be released in 2013, but the game was rebooted by Bungie due to problems of management which forced Activision to give Bungie 1 extra year and throw even more money into the project. Halo's behind-the-scenes story shows Bungie's incompetence, Halo was almost released without multiplayer, Halo 2's production story is hilarious, and the developers were even brave enough to say that the best thing about Bungie is that they make their best content under pressure with 6 months to go before the release of the game. LMAO. Destiny 1 and Destiny 2 were rebooted, with Destiny 1 being made in just 1 year and Destiny 2 being made in just 2 years, with both cases Activision redoing the contract and giving Bungie 1 extra year.
I don't think so. I think both bungie upper management and Activision were the exact same kinds of people, they wanted money. But Activision gets many revenue sources. The high ups at bungie only have destiny and so much weaponise it's monetisation. Also they now get a bigger piece of the pie and can be greedier. The regular Devs put in lots of work, it's not that they can't do the work. They simply aren't allowed to because it's not as profitable. Hiring more people isn't as profitable. Everything is calculated based on if it will get more people to buy deluxe edition and if that increse is worth the cost.
Destiny has many problems but the gunplay and general mechanics are so good that its really unmatched. The combat feels so amazing and responsive all the time. The game has issues and bugs, of course. But there is nothing truly like a day 1 destiny raid with your friends, they are always some of my most memorable gaming experiences.
Halo was better. The fact that your grenade “recharges” instead of picking up more and you can’t pick up any weapons, your enemies weapons. How is smooth gameplay different from any other game….. ever play soul Calibur 2? It’s smooth it’s one of the best. Destiny is based off halo reach engine. I mean. How is that an argument………?
Never been a fan of raids, I enjoy the campaigns more but to each their own. I agree destiny has good gameplay, but so does Overwatch. Doesn’t mean it’s a good game anymore. But I don’t want to get too opinionated. People enjoy destiny but the quality of the content released for a full games price is universally disliked. To me, there’s just not enough bang for the buck. But that is just me 😅
@@f1fanatic241I get what you’re saying. I think everybody can agree while the gameplay has stayed good for both those games, it’s the systems around the gameplay that has been put into question over the years.
I think that alot of people forget that "old bungie" had alot of develepors that are no longer working on present bungie, and that vision that talent is no longer there, so they ideolize the studio in general and get dissapointed
This video explains exactly why I stopped played a couple years back. When it went Free to Play they basically turned everything into cosmetics. Iron Banner used to be amazing and then that started to slip and that is when I was finished.
I love that Charlie spoke about this. I loved Destiny 2 so much, and it hurts me to see how Bungie just does not care. I've never seen anyone so afraid of "overdelivery" than Bungie
@@incoher yes they did, its all go fast, and train stations, and making content is hard so don't over deliver otherwise the unwashed masses that play the game will start to have expectations. Slow boil those frogs.
Charles, there’s a crazy situation going on with my company where they are denying me paid paternity leave because my son was born 4 weeks premature. So with my son needing medical treatment and my wife also having complications post partum with eclampsia, they assume that denying me benefits that I qualify for on paper but not on their system that no one else can see is okay.
Makes me sad and scared at the same time. I just want the decade of the game to end strong and I’ve lost so much of the hope I had when I was like 12 playing d1. I suppose the countless memories won’t be lost, those will definitively stick. Just a shame especially if it never turns around
The Devs lost all of my faith prior to sunsetting everything years ago, but that was the final straw, so I stopped playing after logging like 1,000+ hours in the game and doing like everything there was to do. I'm glad to see that they are still making awful decisions to this day and that I haven't been missing out.
I dont even know what my time is at destiny 2 but I stopped because it felt like bungie was fucking the Players over and over again and glad I left even though it took me some time to get new games that were fun for me but after finding new games in new Genres as well I felt much better
As a player since the destiny beta, this is so sad to see. It’s crazy how we all thought as a community after leaving Activision was gonna make it better. They turned more greedy then pretty much any other company at this point. Id love to see the end of the light/dark saga but if this show case isn’t amazing, I won’t be getting it prolly. No reason to drop 100$ on the lack of content we have got.
I was made founder of a clan that had 11 players in it, half of which were inactive. I spent the next year building it up to 99 players that were active. I did daily carries through Nightfalls, Raids, Raid Encounters, special mission quests, you name it. And I built up members who did the same, we loved helping others. I'll still never forget grinding PVP for the Luna's Howl. That hand cannon was such a beast and felt so good to have! But after a while there just was not anything else left to do and I became more enamored by the allure of playing other games. Also, as much as I loved D1, it felt very low brow to just bring back old D1 content. As if they were admitting what a lot of us felt, that D1 was the better game.
I originally herd the term over-delivery at The GDC panel 7months ago. Over-delivery was descried as a train station where if they deliver 2 raids and good content. Fans would be upset in the future if the same amount was not delivered. All I herd is if we make this fun. If we give you unique game mechanics and experiences. You will flame us in the future. I guess they don’t wanna hear “you can do better we know!” Is something they’re tired of hearing. Developers are overwhelmed I understand but if I’m not having any fun I’m moving on.
Wondered if I'd be able to find a comment from someone I recognize. Howdy. I've been calling the decay of design in Destiny since Shadowkeep. Feeling truly vindicated rn.
True. It’s gotten to the point where I’m unsure if I’m even going to continue post-Final Shape. If it blows me away (it probably won’t considering the state that the game’s at) then I’ll probably continue. But the PvP meta has gotten incredibly stale, the new raid is a joke, and at this point, it just seems like Bungie is getting more and more lazy.
The problem aren't the developers. It's the Executives. They are the ones in charge of directing the developers to just microtransactions. It's always the Executives. A bunch of people who doesn't know the product, who doesn't use the product but make all the decisions about the product.
Thank you for speaking out. They're killing a great game because they're greedy, they think marathon and their new ip is going to be their cash cows. We all have to speak with our wallets to be heard.
Yeah. What I don’t think Bungie realizes is that this is sending a message to anyone who might be interested in Marathon. “This is how we treat a dedicated community of fans who’ve been around for a decade. You’re next.” Even were I interested in Marathon as someone who’s been a Bungie fan since the OG Halo days of 2001 onwards? Yeah, I’ve been around for a while. But I’m not touching Marathon if this is the attitude they’re going to take with Destiny. I see no reason why they’d be treated any better, the community… or the game if they ultimately see Destiny as this disposable now.
@slate8409 I love destiny it's been my favorite game since 2014 but I can't just believe they're slowly letting it die by neglecting it. The showcase will only overhype things but I'm hopeful.
People were upset when Destiny 1 was being replaced by 2 , games make less money over time and tech limits how much they can do with older games , it's common sense and wouldn't be surprised if Destiny 3 is in works to replace 2 like it replaced D1 for D2 . It's standard procedure for games . Blizzard was one of the very few companies that kept games going even at a full loss of revenue. Diablo games run out of revenue from sales within 1 YEAR as does Warcraft, StarCraft etc and they kept servers up for years with nowhere near enough revenue to pay for it , this is how they ended up getting bought up . Blizzard was paying 60+ million a year to keep old games running so things changed .
I never understood the hype with marathon, like it’s a pvp only game. Look at how they’ve treated pvp in destiny for the past 5 years😂 why the fuck would anyone be excited for that when they can’t even fix pvp in their main game
My group of friends separated because of this game, and each time it drops an update everyone hates it, buys it, plays it, repeat. It does in fact have potential, yet it shits on itself without fail😂
As a veteran player, I am just defeated at this point. Bungie has defeated my aspiration and drive for this game that every time I log in d2 I physical cringe thinking what a waste, then log out.
I’m so glad Charlie finally made a video on this game, I feel the EXACT same way he does towards this product, and the frustration is so real. I can tell so many others do as well, and I just can’t understand why Bungie won’t dedicate what they need to perfect this game.
The quote someone tried to tell you was pretty much: “we have to be careful with how good we make our content because then players will come to expect that level of content consistently and we can’t have that” They wanna keep expectations low so that when they actually do something with this game everyone freaks out and pre orders the 100$ version of the next dlc.
Something I don’t see talked about, is the fact that bungie is one of the only companies that does not allow crunch. Everyone in the company works 40 to MAYBE 50 hours a week. This makes them one of the most ethical game dev companies when it comes to how they treat their workers. Every other company out there has to do crunch to be cost effective. Companies in Japan being the absolute worst about this with sometime 100-120 hour work weeks with no or almost no overtime paid out. This toxic message from ignorance that bungie “doesn’t care” presupposes that inflicting crunch on your employees = caring.
I haven't played since the Menagerie introduction but I remember loving Gambit. Don't know anything about what happened but it disheartens me to hear they haven't done shit for it. I literally played for 6 months during early release and again during Forsaken through Menagerie.
Gambit prime was for me the best point for the game, there was actually something to play and grind for. The "classes" were the best part because it made you stand out and other people know your role.
Hit the nail on the head. I have thousands of hours in the game, not counting D1, and this latest SotG just drained any optimism I had left. I am not even mad anymore, just depressed they let the game get to this point Bungie just really threw D2 in the gutter
One of my most memorable gaming moments was the very end of the taken king raid in D1 saving the run with self revive and finishing him off at the very end after hours of bashing our heads against him.
Gambit is one of my favorite game modes. It's just neglected. It's wildly unbalance and hasn't had a new map in ages. It would be fun again if they put even the smallest amount of effort into it.
Long time destiny player, have around 2000 hours. Started playing just before lockdown and I was playing 12 hours a day during lockdown, what Charlie said about raids and dungeons being the most fun activities is a completely correct assessment. I love the dungeon and raids and I remember when new light dropped, they vaulted 5 raids and we were left with deep stone crypt, last wish and garden of salvation. They also made all the best weapons unusable with sunsetting. Now they have readded destiny 1 raids and are reversing sunsetting. My main issue with the destiny team is they can’t make their mind up at all. They just act way too late on important issues, instantly patch all the fun glitches, without patching the harmful ones, and bungie constantly go back on their word and change their mind, leaves the game in a bad state until they send out the PR team to make a condescending half assed apology. I haven’t played the game since the last dlc, I day oned the raid and it was my first ever time trying a day one as I usually just watch the streams. It’s in a sorry state as it usually is at least once a year, just sad to see for my most ever played game
Thanks for bringing this up on your main channel, Charlie. I stopped playing D2 right before Beyond Light because I didn't have the time anymore, but I still follow the game, the lore, and am still subbed to a lot of the content creators. It bums me out seeing a game I root for and, like you said, has so much potential just being seemingly discarded.

They did say their biggest fear as a studio is “over delivery”. Oh the horror, I got a lot of nice content. It pisses me off. I played this Destiny since it’s launch nearly 10 years ago and it sucks to see the game I grew up playing just be neglected
Another thing to note is back when Bungie and Activision were still partners, Bungie had the help of several satellite studios to make content.

Pretty sad really.

theyre not even delivering in the first place, world record for most recycled content xD
Not even 5 seconds in and I've already been filled with a mix of sadness and fear
We should answer in kind.
Wasn't it the destiny GDC that said "yeah Elden Ring was good out the gate, but we don't want to do that."?
basically whats happening with baldurs gate
I’ve been playing this game for a decade, and the longer this goes on the more it breaks my heart
I have aswell. And depending on what this showcase has to offer will decide whether or not I will quit playing and caring about the game.
This feels like what's happening with every game nowadays. At least to me. Very upsetting.
I'll just tell this to the thousands of successful low budget indie games
only with live service junk like this. Plenty of other games still have competent devs
the consumers are partly responsible tbh. if something is bad, don't consume it. don't give companies a chance to think that mediocrity is the standard.
Im glad huge content creators that arent even huge Destiny content creators are getting in on this. It makes me hope that Bungie will listen
They won’t but it might steer people away from buying marathon which would be great
@@CapucineNighlyIf nothing else, Overwatch did dynamic balancing over time correctly, even as Bliz treated the franchise and fans as garbage.
Bungie will listen when the Number under the Red line is getting hurt. For Bungie to listen Final Shape needs to fail financially.
I wish but at this point we know they won't they got the money they don't care about us anymore.
This is how Bungie handled Gambit:
1- Release Gambit in Forsaken: some people like it, some people don't.
Although we know our Gambit fans mostly care about new or returning maps, this is an area of the game with lower engagement that would take resources away from more popular parts of the game to shore up."
Let me spell it out for you Bungie: you literally ruined the Gambit game-mode through a mix of bad decisions, stagnancy, and neglect and then have the gall to say that we want new and returning maps after you have literally gutted Prime/Reckoning and removed them from the game.

Strongly agree with you on the potential of the game, the movement and gunplay can feel so smooth and fun just needs that last little bit of polishing (balancing) and it just never comes or at least in a reasonable time.
Also bigger boss variety instead of "common enemy but bigger".
Sigh

Destiny is the prime example of having all the eggs for a beautifully crafted universe and they crap on the pan instead of making the omelette.
Weird analogy....but yes.

They are actually not allowing their devs to make content to expend less money. They even bragged about it at GDC 22
He fact that they work under the philosophy that "Overdelivery is bad" is fucking mental
I make awesome content as well!! 😎
Feels like most, if not all, AAA game companies work under this philosophy but Bungo is just the most upfront about it
On the one hand, I kinda get it.
They took the mentality of "building community trust before profit", and made it "Backstab the community by ditching them altogether while commiting highway robbery for the amount they paid us."

honestly the only team that I KNOW is putting effort forward is their music & sound production team, even in the RON soundtrack, Oneirophobia gleams essence of no other
Yes, OST and sound design is always on point. There are some guns I use just because I like how they sound and I never heard a sound track I didn't like. I'm glad that during Lightfall marketing campaign, Bungie shed some light on the sound design team and composers.
Yeah I've noticed that too. Almost every product that I don't even like that much. The music will always be on point.
I still listen to all of their music on the daily. Specifically Deep Stone Lullaby.
As a Destiny veteran, it hurts my heart to see the direction of a game I cherished for a long time has come to this. This State of the Game was a massive L that Bungie just handed out to all its players.
They've been really good at "just handing things out" over the past few years. Aspirational content is nonexistent and the entire game is so easy and power crept it's a joke
imngien playing destiny 2 isntead of fortnite
@verydookieman729 go back to your breastmilk dude, you can't even spell imagine right
My only issue with Destiny is the fact 80% of the story literally has no accessibility to learn and explore, there's 21 seasons of content that is locked away forever with no way to understand the events of each season to catch up to the main story that's going on, The Red War, Forsaken, Curse Of Osiris is all sunset which was literally all content that had zero reason to be removed. We need this content to be accessible to the newlights that will never be able to experience the pure excitement of the story building.
They got RID OF THAT CONTENT? THAT WAS LIKE, THE WHOLE REASON I FELL IN LOVE WITH THE GAME!!! that's insane to me, actually insane

Indeed.. it’s painful too see everything fall apart here
Same here since alpha.

2:01 is what Bungie needs to hear. I share the exact sentiment and I'm sure many others do.
The most important part is understanding play styles and change up tactics for that person's play style. Make them feel part of the group.

I've completed root of nightmares, i have no idea how to do it, nor do I really care about learning it.

Thats the balance that we need, the thing that sucks is publishing companies can go too far or devs will just be lazy like Bungie

You’re next.”
Even were I interested in Marathon as someone who’s been a Bungie fan since the OG Halo days of 2001 onwards? Yeah, I’ve been around for a while. But I’m not touching Marathon if this is the attitude they’re going to take with Destiny. I see no reason why they’d be treated any better, the community… or the game if they ultimately see Destiny as this disposable now.
@slate8409 I love destiny it's been my favorite game since 2014 but I can't just believe they're slowly letting it die by neglecting it.
The showcase will only overhype things but I'm hopeful.
I hope it crash and burns tbh they fucked D2 for last year or two for that game
Nothing inspires confidence in a product quite like saying "This shit is hard, don't expect much from us"
As a veteran player, I am just defeated at this point. Bungie has defeated my aspiration and drive for this game that every time I log in d2 I physical cringe thinking what a waste, then log out.
Finally someone with a huge audience talking about D2.
he should do same but for flying gorilla
I’m so glad Charlie finally made a video on this game, I feel the EXACT same way he does towards this product, and the frustration is so real. I can tell so many others do as well, and I just can’t understand why Bungie won’t dedicate what they need to perfect this game.
The quote someone tried to tell you was pretty much: “we have to be careful with how good we make our content because then players will come to expect that level of content consistently and we can’t have that”
They wanna keep expectations low so that when they actually do something with this game everyone freaks out and pre orders the 100$ version of the next dlc.
Diversity hires and 40 hour work weeks 😂 no wonder it’s so bad
I haven't played since the Menagerie introduction but I remember loving Gambit. Don't know anything about what happened but it disheartens me to hear they haven't done shit for it. I literally played for 6 months during early release and again during Forsaken through Menagerie.
They essentially tried to make it less snowbally by making it more snowbally
Gambit prime was for me the best point for the game, there was actually something to play and grind for. The "classes" were the best part because it made you stand out and other people know your role.
@@Cryogenicbananait's still pretty much the same years ago as it is now lol. Only less maps, boss is health gated.
Hit the nail on the head.
I have thousands of hours in the game, not counting D1, and this latest SotG just drained any optimism I had left.
I am not even mad anymore, just depressed they let the game get to this point
Bungie just really threw D2 in the gutter
One of my most memorable gaming moments was the very end of the taken king raid in D1 saving the run with self revive and finishing him off at the very end after hours of bashing our heads against him.
Gambit is one of my favorite game modes. It's just neglected. It's wildly unbalance and hasn't had a new map in ages. It would be fun again if they put even the smallest amount of effort into it.
It was good back in arrivals
Take the prison of elders concept and adapt some of it to gambit. Boom problem solved. But bungie won’t do anything 😭
I'm shivering in my boots because I was afraid Charlie was about the bring out the big guns again due to the fact he was wearing his cloak of darkness
My team has completed every day 1 since DSC and we were all shocked how easy RoN was as soon as we loaded in
