@@SpuddyCube theres another example, but theres slight spoilers: Guy has you go find the body of his wife. You find her, she's a puppet. Behind her corpse, written out in her fluids is I love you. You can tell the guy the puppet wrote that message, which is the truth and gets you humanity, or lie., saying there was nothing there. Getting you no humanity.

Often times telling the truth is the human choice, such as with Polendia and Eugenie. I feel like it does, considering the amazing scaling on throwables and the numerous upgrades you get through your P Organ that facilitate that sort of playstyle, too
It is one thing to learn every aspect of a game, go through numerous playthroughs to learn every attack, item, upgrade effectivity, and then get to the point to create a challenge run to challenge yourself. But to create this barrier to ones own self, on the first go about, shows tenacity, strength, and true honor in the face of adversity. The divines look down upon the cleansing flame, and shows that with the darkness, the light shall always exist to provide a light for those that are lost.

the bit with the fire during the black rabbit brotherhood, made me think that youd really like being a part of the firebomb academy serving the firebomb goddess and learning the ways of conflagration and incineration
I tend to not want to stay too constrained by the bomb portion of the firebomb academy, but they do some phenomenal things. I'm particularly fond of the work of the headmaster.
I am not sure that the flame thrower in a wine covered celler would be the issue he thinks. Ethanol needs to be at 35% to start burning. Wine usually is 8% th 12% especially a red wine. Though wine the time period, you could expect the wine to be closer to 16% to 20%. However, Ethanol does evaporate, so maybe there could be enough enthol fumes to light. But Ethanol in to a great gas for fuel.
My thoughts surround mostly the surface area present and the potential for there to be a lot in the air given the ventilation present (or lack thereof), but I also have literally no experience dealing with alcoholic beverages. I have seen a lot videos of folks with flaming drinks, but I would assume then that's a considerably higher concentration.
The idea with the BRB is that since the 3’s individual members have little health pools and are only triggered at quarters of the fight, you have to run away from big bro and deal with the faster ones 1-on-1. The eldest is also pretty passive if you go for the others and he has a sound que right before his only attack. I can understand not liking it though but I think it’s one of the best ganks to gank
Happy to stumble onto this. Great video, the fact that this challenge run was your FIRST run is fucking wild. I think you may have liked the game more if you played it as intended but I guess youre stubborn. NVM just checked the rest of the channel and mad respect
3:07 You actually CAN pet the cat, I don’t know if it’s tied to beating the secret final boss, orrrr if it’s tied to lying enough until the cutscene where it shows you becoming human takes place (Cat doesn’t like puppets I don’t think- idk) Also if you don’t like the long hair or gray hair, you can go to the quartz area and click the second option to change back to normal! 😀
Throwables in this game are overlooked but also incredibly powerful. I bet most players in the game go through it not knowing that the Shotput can break stagger, making it invaluable when the bosses stop giving you a good chance to use a charged heavy. I only learned when from watching a speedrun and trying it myself on Manus. I love this game so I'm planning on doing a NG+ run with the Golden Lie and I made sure to get as many of them as I could before starting.
@@zwei3179 Not bad actually. I was using Puppet Ripper before so it's nice having a bit more speed. It's just a shame Golden Lie is essentially a NG+ weapon since I got the thing just before Manus and that means you're using that, the Oroboros Eye or Nameless' weapon and the latter two are more appealing. Fun thing is that NG+ does reset it's appearance so it goes from golden and covered in leaves to just a long brown stick. Just aesthetic but it is funny.
I was focused on the gameplay but I was mostly focused on his examples and kind of the message he put into this video. It honestly made me feel happy and special, using a game and a challenge to show an amazing message. I love this video ❤
On the subject of the green monster of the swamp, on the charge fury attack you can keep dashing backward and outpace the boss (it only dashes a predetermined amount) and then get a free attack. For the second fury Slam attack you can roll through the legs to the other side, again giving you more time for counter. I think the fury moves are actually greatly beneficial to the game, and that's coming from a person who never parried in their playthrough. Just takes some trial and error.
12:00 You can't really complain about a game mechanic that you 'can't do anything about' when you do have the tools to do something about it, you're just choosing not to use them. Anyway, fun idea and enjoyed the video overall.
21:27 Actually its not a problem to use a flamethrower there, while shows and such often depict alcoholic drinks as being bombs only waiting to explode its actually quite hard to set them on fire and that wine has at most 20% alcohol content. The vapors might catch on fire, but depending on how long the wine has been there they'd have long been ventilated out of the room.
4:45 I absolutely love these little bits of real world friendly advice you give. This is the second video ive seen recently. Love how much you truly care for all of us 🎉😂❤ love you
In regards to the Green Monster of the Swamp, while I do at least in part agree it shouldn't have that much tracking on the charge, it by far gives you the most reward for a perfect parry out of any fury attack. Literally stops it dead in its tracks with a clear and open opportunity for a heavy attack with even some of the slowest weapons in the game. So, at least they made sure the one attack you basically have to perfect parry rewards you significantly for it?
Honestly, that does make it at least a fair bit better. Still more punishing in terms of narrowing playstyles than I would like for a mandatory boss, but also a lot more rewarding for picking up a new playstyle. It does also sort of line up with some other bosses. Like the Door Guardian for instance, with him being built around using Fatal attacks.
Just wanna say, incredible job at just persevering through the run! Was a blast to watch! I loved this game and I completely agree with a lot of your sentiments. Enemy tracking is rough, and there’s a lot about the game that just feels painful- but at the same time there’s so much to love. Super excited to see what else comes from the devs next
Of all the fights in the game, the only one that felt actually unfair was the fights against The black rabbits. Amazing work making it through this run!
I actually really liked it, one of if not the best fight for me. The elder brother is really fun to deflect, and the other brothers will go away if you hurt them enough. Unlike other Souls, each brother will take turns attacking you, effectively making the boss a 4 phase one with varied movesets.
This run was really interesting and as fair as I concerned you did exactly what you set up to do beat the game without a weapon. Seeing you rip the villains harr out at the end with your weapon are is so satisfying.
Boss weapons? BOSS WEAPONSSSSSSS!!!!! But seriously, great video. This game suffers from the Elden Ring problem with the game becoming so difficult for the sake of being difficult. I just recently beat the game and I had a strange feeling of relief and also just being glad I didn’t have to play it anymore. I also committed myself to not using summons to really see how the game functions with just player action. I’m not the best player in the world, but overall it’s a great game. Just not up there with any of FromS game, like some are saying.
I just beat this game and i an TERRIBLE at soulsbornes. I had a blast and think it was a GREAT game. The visuals were great, combat felt amazing, and every time i finally beat a boss it was so rewarding!
You actually dont have to lie once to be able to pet the cat. You simply need a certain amount of humanity which can be attained through other methods such as solving riddles and listening to music. Cat let me pet them on an all truth run by the end of it.
I think the music may have been my downfall. Between not getting some records for truth reasons and not being able to listen to them for copyright reasons, I'm guessing it would account for a lot that I just didn't have.
You did really good on this I have to really enjoy the hell you talk through it describing different things like whenever you at the ending you are saying that I don't need a weapon you're ready for me into what I am now I really enjoyed how you add stuff to it
The irony is the best good ending is locked behind lying, wile I do agree with you that lies are a bad thing MOST of the time, this game does show some good examples of a “good lie” ones that can bring comfort and possibly bring people closer or help others with their “ending.” Although most of the lies in the world are to cause harm that doesn’t mean all of them are we’d appreciate honesty but the truth can hurt just as much if not More that a lie.
I think it really depends a lot on perspective. A comfortable lie stops being comfortable when you find out the truth. I feel that even well meaning lies can devalue things. If I'm always told that I'm funny regardless, then what meaning is there behind a genuine laugh? I also feel like the system lacks nuance. While I realize that it may be the point, lies generally felt very idealistic. A beautiful, wonderful, even unbelievable statement. Where the "truth" was incredibly cold, and often just cruel. The painting choice being the biggest standout for me. I was told that the truth is "there's nothing left" which isn't in itself a true statement. You can be honest and still be constructive. For a truth playthrough, why does the P in Lies of P have to stand for Prick?
30:00 ok, I will say this is a spoiler The Door Guardian boss is kind of a gimmick boss, where what you’re supposed to do is target his right leg (the skinny one you can lock on to) and then do a fatal attack to take out a huge amount of his health (I think half in NG) so not surprised he became a wall since he has way more health/defense than other bosses.
This is by far the best challenge run I’ve ever seen. The commentary was phenomenal and genuinely reminds me of my internal monologue when playing these game. Great video man!
I've heard some speculation that it'll be DLC. I'm excited to find out what they do with it, especially if it is having you presumably play as someone else.
It's not being emotionally broken, it's being emotionally moved by something the vast majority of us don't get nearly enough of: Care and Compassion. Please don't ever think that you are broken because someone showing care, even to a general audience that includes you, can bring you to tears.
@@DamnDaimen I guess the concept of someone else’s happiness just doesn’t sit right with you? So what if it’s kinda clichéd it makes some people’s day knowing that someone out there is this kind
The thing about being touched: If you touch me without permission, you're losing your arms. People take it so personally when you refuse to shake their hand or when you refuse a hug from your grandparents/parent(s)... The last time I willingly hugged someone was late on my 20th birthday (my mom), and it was only because the person that was supposed to pick me up from work had fallen asleep and I walked home in the freezing rain at 2 AM. The Atoned is optional, if you get the Stalker Salute[i don't remember the exact details on it, but it has somethin to do with Riddle Man], you can give the Salute and he lets you pass
@@SpuddyCube It’s less about lies = humanity and more about how breaking free of the chains put on the covenant. Puppets can’t lie. They can only tell the truth and nothing but the truth. As they are puppets. They are controlled. But lying means you’re not under control. You can make your own choices. You can be who you are, without the need of Giepettos strings weighing you down. But I will agree, lying = humanity is a very concerning message. But I don’t think that was the one they were trying to tell. The story is more about breaking free of the bonds that chain you. That’s why killing people can give you humanity. It’s not that you become more human by killing someone, it’s that you lose the control you master put on you because like I said, puppets are puppets. They cannot lie, nor are they allowed to kill. The message is odd but the story is kinda… heartwarming.
@@SpuddyCubeI really don't think so at all. Every "lie" in the game is about being moved by compassion. Your humanity is built by every compassionate or emotion-driven thing you do in the game. Listening to music, telling the truth, telling a lie. If you wanted to tell a lie because you *felt* for the other person, then you're choosing the "human" route.
You CAN pet the cat as your humanity increases. I was totally surprised when I went up to the cat expecting it hiss at me, but instead was surprisingly cuddly!
You can pet the cat if you become human enough either through lying, listening to records, performing certain gestures, talking to certain NPCs, or a few other ways. It is not necessary to lie to become more human.
I also fought the puppet before draining the goo. I spent way too long running in and out of a safe bit of land to keep my corruption bar from filling completely, chipping away at his health when I could afford to run in for some damage. Good times.
Notes: 1: It is possible to pet the cat but it will not trust you until you become more and more human. 2: You should feel bad about killing Black Cat and Red Fox. Their fights are entirely optional and can be avoided through a simple act of charity in order to help cure an ill person, a cure that is being denied from that person by the alchemists who'd rather have him dependant than healthy. They are two people looking out for each other out of genuine care and affection and all they ever want is to cure Black Cats vision and leave this hell hole of a city, a wish that is within your power to grant, and all it takes from you is a resource that you rarely ever use and that you have an infinitely renewable source of. One of the very few true happy endings in the game, denied out of pettyness. I'm surprised that P didn't join Eli Lily after that, considering he'd rather see someone die than grant life-saving medication.
I would argue that actively manipulating, betraying, and killing people tends to warrant a general ill will. I could potentially cure his blindness. And then he'd use his vision to hurt more people. Even helping him after all of the things they've done up until that point, they still help in harming more innocent people at the hotel. Wanting to help yourself is one thing. Actively getting people killed to achieve it is another. Even if they were to turn a new leaf for now, what's to stop them from hurting more people when they're mildly inconvenienced in the future? Because as you said, you can help them. And I did. And they still went through with it.
@@SpuddyCube Because whilst you did help them, it wasn't enough to really help them. They were still entirely dependent on Simon Manus and Simon of course only granted the required cure piecemeal which in turn prevented Black Cat from ever being truly cured. If they disobeyed, the Alchemists would have cut them off and Black Cat might have gone blind again, maybe for good. That aside, I don't actually recall them doing much harm at the hotel. Sure, they made quite a mess, no denying that, but from what I remember they didn't kill or injure anyone. All they did was kidnap Gepetto who by all accounts is a manipulative bastard (also, just as a side note, if you actually agree to his request to let him take your heart to revive Carlo, it's implied that he has Carlo murder everyone in the hotel before leaving) and he is still alive and well afterwards. Black Cat and Red Fox are mercenaries and there's presently only one employer who offers the kind of pay that is valuable to them. But they aren't deranged psychopaths like the Black Rabbit Brotherhood or Doctor Owl, or the King of Riddles, or unscrupulous murderers like Parrot. They simply engage in mercenary work because for one, it's the only work left to do in Krat after everything has broken down and second, because there's no other source of gold coin fruit for Black Cat. Fact of the matter is, in their position they don't have other options. At the same time, it's obvious that they aren't happy with that arrangement and not just because the alchemists barely give Black Cat enough to keep him from going blind. Which is why, as soon as there is a direct confrontation between you and them, they'll offer you a non-violent way out. Hell, had P been present during the attack on the hotel, they probably would have made the same offer right there and then. Your personal access to the gold coin tree puts you in the unique position to offer them an alternative to hurting people for a living, and the fact that they immediately recognize that opportunity and are willing to negotiate for it shows that they are not fundamentally inclined to violence. Besides, I'd argue that a puppet that has attained humanity and increased its own power by engorging itself on the essence of diseased people is hardly in a position to judge the two for valuing their own well-being over that of others.
@@SpuddyCube"he'd use his vision to hurt more people." Why would he do that? He only works for the alchemists for the gold fruit in the first place. He'd have no reason to continue that type of work if he was cured. If you do give them the gold coin fruit, he voices his gratitude very genuinely and is even willing to call you a friend. He reveals that they never intended on hurting Gepetto since they knew he was your father. The Red Fox if given it in the last encounter, will thank you and apologize for their past treatment of you. She tells you that she stood up to the alchemists and made them guarantee Gepetto's safety, and then she'll tell you her real name. They're ordinary people forced into a bad position by those in power. My sister (my real sister not from the game lol) is blind, and if someone gave me an opportunity to cure that if I worked for them, you bet I'd agree. Also just to point out, they never hurt or kill anyone at the hotel. Everyone is notably unharmed, even Gepetto himself who was the target. Things likely would've been worse if they hadn't come. The rest of the alchemists wouldn't have been so harmless.
@@darthplagueis13it’s funny because Cat literally says he doesn’t like turning to violence, all you have to do is pay attention to their dialogue and it’s pretty obvious they’re only doing what they have to so they can survive and keep Black Cat’s illness at bay

The fight almost definitely would be a lot more fun playing into the gimmick. And while I didn't, I'm sure I could. My concern more often than not is how other players might handle it. Some of my closest friends are generally not great at games, but I think they could handle something like Dark Souls given enough time. While I enjoyed Lies of P, it's a lot more demanding of the player, and I think it only really starts being so demanding a lot later on. Like, with Sekiro, you know pretty quickly that the skill required is really high/specific. This being largely because every problem more or less has one solution.

@@chrispnuts4813 they really dont cost that much. in the middle of the game, is a farm that nets 1k ergo in literally 25 seconds. and before that is a farm that nets about 2k in a little longer but is available earlier. for how good they are, theyre super cheap

Amazing use of the "BOSS WEAPONS" joke lmao. An amazing video through and through, I really enjoyed this!
I honestly don't know if I enjoyed the run or the poetic nature of the commentary more, very enjoyable and entertaining. Thank you

"Miyazaki what have you done to gaming!?" Had me dying of laughter 😂😂😂
Happy to stumble onto this. Great video, the fact that this challenge run was your FIRST run is fucking wild. I think you may have liked the game more if you played it as intended but I guess youre stubborn. NVM just checked the rest of the channel and mad respect
3:07 You actually CAN pet the cat, I don’t know if it’s tied to beating the secret final boss, orrrr if it’s tied to lying enough until the cutscene where it shows you becoming human takes place (Cat doesn’t like puppets I don’t think- idk)
Also if you don’t like the long hair or gray hair, you can go to the quartz area and click the second option to change back to normal!
I love this game so I'm planning on doing a NG+ run with the Golden Lie and I made sure to get as many of them as I could before starting.
how is golden lie?
@@zwei3179 Not bad actually. I was using Puppet Ripper before so it's nice having a bit more speed. It's just a shame Golden Lie is essentially a NG+ weapon since I got the thing just before Manus and that means you're using that, the Oroboros Eye or Nameless' weapon and the latter two are more appealing. Fun thing is that NG+ does reset it's appearance so it goes from golden and covered in leaves to just a long brown stick. Just aesthetic but it is funny.

Came for the Challenge run. Stayed for the insight into relationship communication.
21:27
Actually its not a problem to use a flamethrower there, while shows and such often depict alcoholic drinks as being bombs only waiting to explode its actually quite hard to set them on fire and that wine has at most 20% alcohol content. The vapors might catch on fire, but depending on how long the wine has been there they'd have long been ventilated out of the room.
4:45 I absolutely love these little bits of real world friendly advice you give. This is the second video ive seen recently. Love how much you truly care for all of us 🎉😂❤ love you
I aint gonna lie i would think it would be dope if you dove into the design behind the bosses and analyzed it
You aint going to lie beacouse you are a puppet
For the fire boss, kings flame, you should hide behind the pillars when he does the full room aoe.
It's not full room. It is between 1/2 and 2/3 of the room surface.
Yeah but it doesn't fit the style of this challenge run so bad attack!
It also has very limited range. I've spaced that attack so many times, mostly by accident.
You can also dodge through its red attack with the double dodge p organ. That p organ lets you dodge through so many things if you time it correctly.
You CAN pet the cat! If you are human enough (thru lying and listening to records) he starts to like you and eventually you can even pick him up!
Insane that you did this before the patch notes (especially spectre buffs and boss nerfs)
You struggled on BRB??? Brother delete your comment and don't admit that shit to anyone ever again.
Black rabbits wasn't too bad if you can parry. Break the big bros sword by only parrying and he becomes a non factor
Black rabbit brotherhood is one of the easiest to cheese with throwables
Bro I beat black rabbit on my first try. Definitely got lucky but I will always flex it

Wine isn't flammable, the alcohol content has to be much higher.

You actually dont have to lie once to be able to pet the cat. You simply need a certain amount of humanity which can be attained through other methods such as solving riddles and listening to music. Cat let me pet them on an all truth run by the end of it.
I think the music may have been my downfall. Between not getting some records for truth reasons and not being able to listen to them for copyright reasons, I'm guessing it would account for a lot that I just didn't have.
for the green monster fury attack, just run as far as you can because it's charge distance is not that far, you dont have to parry it
Bro decided to hit record and start speaking straight fax about relationships and other stuff while dropping people of gotta sun after that
“I don’t like lying” man I really hope you got the rise of p ending at some point
If you want to pet the cat, you can. You just need to become sufficiently human-like first.
You did really good on this I have to really enjoy the hell you talk through it describing different things like whenever you at the ending you are saying that I don't need a weapon you're ready for me into what I am now I really enjoyed how you add stuff to it
Wow. I truly enjoyed watching this run you kept the commentary very interesting.

30:00 ok, I will say this is a spoiler
The Door Guardian boss is kind of a gimmick boss, where what you’re supposed to do is target his right leg (the skinny one you can lock on to) and then do a fatal attack to take out a huge amount of his health (I think half in NG) so not surprised he became a wall since he has way more health/defense than other bosses.
This is by far the best challenge run I’ve ever seen. The commentary was phenomenal and genuinely reminds me of my internal monologue when playing these game. Great video man!

The Atoned is optional, if you get the Stalker Salute[i don't remember the exact details on it, but it has somethin to do with Riddle Man], you can give the Salute and he lets you pass
u have to fight a stalker at the factory
Has nothing to do with the riddles. You just kill the stalker in the factory for it…
You can pet the cat as you become more human as he scared of you until you tell a certain amount of lies
There are some really concerning implications regarding lying being equated to humanity.
@@SpuddyCube
It’s less about lies = humanity and more about how breaking free of the chains put on the covenant.

You just have to be human
Dude is just casually reinventing being a TH-camr

You can pet the cat if you become human enough either through lying, listening to records, performing certain gestures, talking to certain NPCs, or a few other ways. It is not necessary to lie to become more human.

Came here for weaponless run, stayed for philosophu lesson
I was planning to do this run myself, you beat me to it! D:
Really though, great job!
Notes:
1: It is possible to pet the cat but it will not trust you until you become more and more human.

The BRB, are really fun when you're using a weapon and probably my favorite take on the souls boss trope
@@SpuddyCube It is interesting how dividing this game is in terms of difficulty. as someone who struggled quite a lot with soulsborne games, and I haven't even beaten bloodborne or dark souls 1 or 2, I actually find this game like vastly easier.

It feels like such a strange game to me in that it's full of so much polish and shine, but also so many sharp edges hiding under the surface. I know the devs are already doing some things to help with the general difficulty curve, but I think some of the issues are kind of fundamental to the game itself.
Looking back at it now, I really did enjoy it. I'm not sure if I'll be able to revisit the title, but it's one that I would genuinely like to. During the playthrough though, I know there were quite a few points that were very low. A lot of things adapted from Souls that felt very much like the game expects you to be a veteran of the series and will kick you around if you're not. Even if you are, some of it just feels unfair/inconsistent.
I stand by that the game is genuinely good. I think there are more positives than negatives, but it's been a long time since I felt quite so divided on a game.
