I loved the Queen dearly and I loved the Skye Boat Song which I sang from the time I was a child. The song has an interesting history. It was composed in the Victorian time when there was an enthusiasm for all things Highland. The song and its original lyrics are about the Jacobite Rising and Bonnie Prince Charlie's escape (highly romanticised) to Skye and then back to France. Robert Louis Stevenson later objected to the lyrics and wrote the ones we are familiar with today "Sing me a song of a lad that is gone...". It is a lovely song and highly evocative and of course Queen Elizabeth loved the Highlands but it is ironic for the song which was composed as a Jacobite anthem is associated with an Anglican Queen.
@@aa-xg3ct Don't you think it's a question of both/and rather than either/or? Regarding their places of worship, the members of the royal family were both Anglican in England and Presbyterian in Scotland.

Queen Elizabeth comes across in such a real way and it makes her likable. I think Carmella has that, Catherine has that. You get a sense they’re fully present when you see them and that they’re authentic. It’s a kind of love really, paying attention to things. I suppose it sounds minor but it isn’t. I watch people all day every day.
I feel like British ppl sort of use this in movies or tv (since I don’t know any British ppl) in a sort of humorous way, but the underlying statement is just that they’re quite conscious of other people in a way Americans aren’t (I’m American). Maybe not. But I saw, in New York, very small children who would look at their nannies before engaging with strangers at all, to know what to think. And I thought it has socioeconomic implications really. Engaging with others starts early and negotiating space starts early and is a lifelong skill. If quite a large number of ppl choose to disengage they will miss learning some lovely things. More importantly maybe their social skills and work skills plus insight overall will suffer. I feel this is at a crisis point in New York and Chicago and I feel it literally makes America weak bc it makes us stupid. I saw a lot of this in New York and Chicago. Because thought generally follows feelings I’m really worried about this sort of antisocial crap poisoning people intellectually. Sorry. Big rant. All I meant was in general British ppl seem to expect their kids to engage and to use manners as a tool to facilitate that. They seem to just take it for granted but it’s a huge wealth of skills really. We don’t have anyone like Princess Catherine here and I think she’s such an inspiration.
I’m an American. Texas is my home state. I love my country and have been an anglophile most of my life. My Mom went to England & Scotland in ‘88. i went with her in ‘89. I look nothing like her. When she came home she mentioned how while in London prople would smile at her, and be most polite. They would stare at her. We all thought it was because she was a foreigner, and were drawn to her sweet smile, and disposition. She was a pretty lady too. When she & i went in ‘89 i witnessed this behavior too. I finally figured out why people reacted to her, and it’s because she looked like she could be a close relative of Her Majesty. Mom had black hair, white, smooth skin, and lots of teeth showing when she smiled. She even wore her hair like The Queen. She was in her mid 60’s, and very fit. She was always well dressed, but nothing too ornate. They were polite to me, but Mom was their focus. i look at my pics from that trip and see the resemblance. 😁
I think I'll ask for this played at my funeral, this and Amazing Grace, such beautiful songs. We had a piper at my father's funeral.
Rest in Peace my Queen. You will be the Queen for Ever. May God keep your Spirit close to him.❤
I’m an American.
Her Majesty was truly one of a kind. She brightened my life throughout the years. A kind soul, amazing leader and strong woman. I miss her every day.
I think I'll ask for this played at my funeral, this and Amazing Grace, such beautiful songs. We had a piper at my father's funeral. My ancestors were related to the kings of Scotland, so the Queen was my very very distant cousin. My aunt looked just like her! Many people commented how the Queen Mother looked like my Grandma, esp. back in the 1940's. Thanks for this song video!
Beautifully done. ❤
