Many years ago, when walking long distance in Belgium, with a girlfriend, I passed two men walking in kilts and with silent bagpipes. When passing I asked: The Sky Boat Song, please? It took some time after, but then I heard the sad base pipes starting and then this beautiful tune. But Bonny Prince Charles sadly died in Rome, very poor and never, ever came back to Scotland!

This said, I have to say that Amanda Powell's interpretation, with her use of progressive and ornamentations throughout, is the most perfect, and by far the most perfect, I have ever heard. Speaking as my country's most prominent lyric poet, I can also say that I really do not care to hear any other interpretation. The accompanying consort of early instruments here is simply stunning. In fine, the spirit of Stevenson's poem is beautifully embodied in this video. Finally, a singer who truly understands the lyricism underlying the verses!

I appreciated the spoken words from both Ms. Sorrell and Ms. Powel in prelude to a familiar tune popularized by Outlander (my favorite show) to the full lyrical version of the versus. Ms. Powell's vocal abilities are top=notch in clarity and vocal technique. The instrument ensemble was sublime - not to mention the venue was as beautiful as the performance. In the ESC, every year we have to listen screaming,colourful peformences, but No(!) music.... this traditionell performance of the Sky Boat Song ... just a handful of listener. What a shame! A performance which touches soul and heart - music for eternity! I am listening with tears in my eyes .... thank you!
When I was a kid (about 1960) I read a children's novel about Prince Charlie. Then I learned this song. Even though I have no genetic connection to Scotland, this song has followed me through my life
So many heart-rendingly beautiful songs came out of this tragic and hopeless rebellion. I could never support the rebellion itself. Fighting to maintain a cruel and outdated feudal system that had been rejected by the rest of England and Scotland a hundred or more years earlier.
it's a shame there's only a few, maybe 10 people listening live in the audience, this was a performance for 10,000 people. Beautiful!
