There are two different approaches, none of them are bad. On the snes one by takara, we have a nice effect trying to catch the original neo geo zoom, and the graphics and voices are closer, gameplay is closer but it's also the easiest version of them all. However, the sega version bets for the higher resolution and difficulty, that's why sprites are smaller. It has a scroll parallax layer not found even on the original, also includes the arcade cutscenes.
Yeargh, but why do ya suppose they had to settle for smaller sprites on the Genesis version tho? I mean, we've seen the Genesis handle much bigger sprites before, and still manage to play at relatively fast speeds... Do ya suspect it was the cart size or hardware limitations?🤔
@@OtomoTenziyes, bigger sprites are also more memory demanding, the md game has 16megabit so the most realistic was stick to the zoom out graphics and stage size.
@@lastportalvideos I really like the Genesis version, cuz I think the graphics look sharper and the colors are more accurate with good shadow effects that even the Neo Geo version lacks... With LARGER sprites, the Genesis version could've been the BEST port of all!
Genesis: More detailed graphics/animations, Close to original version in overall SNES: Zoom-in Effect, Well arranged soundtracks, Voices are close to original than Genesis, THAT DAMN ENDING
@@hepwo91222 The backgrounds are still very good on Neo Geo. They don't have parallax, but at least they didn't look as barebones as the backgrounds on the SNES port. Some looked akin to the original Neo Geo game's backgrounds, but the others just looked like low budget versions.
@@donhostiarra88 I am not saying the music is bad, it's just that it's not as good as the original. Neo Geo was able to produce some really good quality music. SNES was limited by its hardware. Neo Geo is sharper and clearer.
@@donhostiarra88 sure, but better sound chip doesn't exactly mean better sound or overall better game. The Neo Geo might not have high specs but that's cause of its large cartridges that handled most of its processing. Look at how good Art Of Fighting 3 was, a game that was never ported over to SNES, Genesis.
I only really played the Neo Geo original version at a friend house back then and it was VERY impressive. As for the ports: - PC Engine (actually it's PC Engine + its CD add-on + the Arcade Card, yeah it's a bit messy to begin with): great sprites and sound but the fake scaling is a disaster + annoying loadings + the backgrounds are rather poor. - Genesis: the scaling wasn't kept but on other hand backgrounds parallax + line scrolling floor effects have been added. Also it's the only port of the era which runs in proper resolution and without added black bar for the HUD. Otherwise some good music but sound effects/voices are rather poor. Oh and, John stage's background, animations anyone? - SNES: kept the scaling but it's reduced in its range. Graphics look a bit messy in terms of definition. Not fan of the music. I've heard that this version doesn't play very well, your opinion on this Canal Vc?
Sega Genesis/Mega Drive has the best port in my opinion. With the Resolution and Game Play being closer to the Neo Geo/Arcade Version. I think as time keeps passing by more and more people will be more fans of the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive being that it showcased games in higher resolution most of time and had better gameplay most of the time compared to the PC Engine and SNES when comparing games. Well if you were a fan of Arcade games in the late 80's / early 90's anyway.
I guess you could say the characters look better on the SNES, due to them being a tad bigger. I'd say the characters look better on the Mega Drive, due to them looking more vibrant.
@@TS-yz3udThe SNES version prolly also had a few more extra frames of animation (Robert's hard roundhouse kick for example), but it still doesn't have all 100% full frames from the Neo Geo version tho. And seein' just how the SNES version was all BOGGED DOWN, and running HELLA SLOW, from what little frames of animation and background details it had to cut out and sacrifice just in order to fit all that shit into a measly 16-meg cart... Hmmmph! 😤
A versão do SNES fez melhor !
The reason why porting Neo Geo games were so demanding on the Genesis and SNES hardware, was because SNK literally overloaded their games with QUALITY... Like trying to squeeze Ferrari-like performance out of a Honda. Possible, but not without ALOT of performance additions and modifications. It has been speculated, that KOF'98 didn't actually require a 680+ meg cart to make. They simply just went the extra mile to over-sample EVERYTHING and added in ALOT of extra content (50+ playable characters). The sprites were LARGE and the sound was almost CD-quality. A decent quality port of KOF'98 on the 16-bit consoles (without too many frame cuts and audio losses) would've required at least 256+ megs if not more. The results would likely be a 75% - 85% accurate port of the Neo Geo original. Expect a port like that to cost around $180 - $200. The Genesis and SNES could've both theoretically used 'bank switching' to allow more megs in its carts, 256+ meg carts were likely possible; cuz as far as I know Atari Jaguar carts could support at least up to 960 megs. but all of that extra memory would also require alot more processor power to access, and also generate alot of HEAT... And this was an obvious fault in the SNES especially with it's relatively weaker/slower processor. I totally forgot the name of the special mode that was used on the Neo Geo, but it had something to do with allowing it to access and load ALL of the available ROM data in its AES carts instantly. No way in hell you could ever do that on the Genesis or SNES without a set of powerful processors and those arcade-grade chips!
Transparent shadows are using the MegaDrive "shadow and highlight" effect used in titles like Ecco: Tides of Time stage with transparent paths in the air or in other sprite shadows like Sonic's in Sonic 3 bonus stage). SNES is unable to use its transparency effects in mode 7, necessary for zoom effects, as well as several background layers, like MegaDrive version.
Genesis less blurry, much sharper textures. Judging from the comment section seems Nintendo fanboys need glasses. You clearly see a lot more stuff in the background in stage 2. There aren't even floor tiles on the snes version and no people in the background. Also less layers making everything zoomed-in in the background.
+Julian Taylor Megadrive the resolution is much higher than the SNES so in the latter are large but are small sprite, while the megadrive are big but the screen resolution is higher for that are that size.
That's something like nobody bears in mind while comparing MD vs SNES. But the thing is that around 90% of MD games runs at a higher resolution. Most of the times at 320x224, against the lacking 256x224 from the SNES. Back in the day (especially in the US) wasn't that much important, because of the many people just utilizing the good old (but blurry) classic Video Composite cables or even the ugly RF signal, but nowadays, having all sorts of ways to play the games from really accurate emulators to the original hardware on pristine RGB signal or video component, you really can tell there's a whole lot of difference while playing a Megadrive game with a higher resolution, better looking sprites, richer colors, no ghosting and stuff. If it comes to sharper image and better looking sprites on a CRT TV, try a Megadrive with RGB and it will always look better than the low resolution games from the SNES (majority of the catalogue runs at 256x224)
Nobody seems to understand how difficult it actually is to compare whats going on on these two different ports. Yeah, there is less stuff on screen...but the background is being scaled in real time, which uses up resources. The games are doing two totally different things and are diving resources up differently. One is using parallax scrolling and the other is doing image scaling. What are people even comparing??? I wish people actually knew how to discuss this stuff, but the comment section gets filled with fanboy comments (admit it, you're a little bit of a Genesis fan boy)
That stupid Genesis point total count sounds like an AMber alert I was checking my phone...lol. The super Nintendo one looks more like the Arcade one and has more animations the Genesis one has cartoonier backgrounds. It is a preference of art style on the backgrounds but the characters are far more fluid and better looking on SNES... I can't stand Genesis fanboys lol. There are like a total of 3 games on Genesis that look better than SNES and none sound better. Those 3 are Earthworm Jim 1 and 2 and Samurai SHodown.
Animation, and sound is better on SNES, but the graphics look better and much more clear on Genesis, even with the smaller sprites. Cutscenes on Genesis are great as well
Oh yes, the graphics looked very detailed and nice on the Genesis version... I just wished that the sprites were about 2x larger tho. I wonder WTF happened there? Are those like the biggest/maximum sprite sizes the Genesis could actually handle? I seriously doubt it! 🤨
As an early arcade fan of Art of Fighting and long time owner of a Neo Geo Aes collection the Snes version is much closer overall to the Neo Geo original from the intro, look and feel through scaling plus faithfullness to the bonus stages etc. Seems that they purposely modified the Genesis version as a home port with added background details (which is very good in some cases for me) but there's also added details that were'nt present in the arcade version such as with the bonus stages whereas the Super Nintendo aimed for replicating the arcade look. Watched 5 stages here and yes Super Nintendo is much closer to arcade with scaling, backgrounds (with exception to stage 2's missing character and flooring but is minimal sacrifice in exchange for better scaling) plus look and feel but I also like the Genesis home port version with it's sharp textures, deep background colors and added details which is also a treat as a more unique port although it strays from the arcade faithfullness in exchange. Always fun comparing these ports, just compared SFII and the Genesis version was closer to the arcade which is a big feat for a system that released 2yrs earlied than the Snes. Now to compare Samurai Shodown again and maybe World Heroes though I recall the Genesis version being a bad port with that particular title. I also own all these ports on PCEngine including the Fatal Furys which should be interesting.
I actually like the Genesis version better than the PC Engine and SNES versions. Even though Sega took out the Zoom effect. The Genesis plays the game in Fuller Screen than the PC Engine and SNES versions. The Black Bar on the top always bothered me on the PC Engine and SNES versions. Also in my opinion the Genesis version has the best looking backgrounds compared to the PC Engine and SNES versions. Especially the last stage, where in my opinion looks even better than the Neo Version. Also I always loved the music in John's stage in the Genesis Version and liked how the backgrounds were closer to the Neo Version with the 2 helicopters. Now as far as gameplay many like the gameplay on the Genesis Version compared to even the Neo Version being that many dont like how the Zoom effect makes the gameplay worst in some people's opinion. The Genesis Version gives more of a Street Fighter 2 feel to Art of Fighting with no Zoom Effect. I do prefer the PC Engine Version more than the SNES Version but like I said I always hated the bar on that version on the top and also stuff missing in the backgrounds. Like the John and last stage looks way better on the Genesis than the PC Engine in my opinion. Also the Parallax scrolli ng in the Genesis Version makes it a must have. I own the Genesis and PC Engine versions and played the SNES version plenty of times at a friends house back in the day.
The PCE version was prolly the BEST version out of the 3 ports, but it seems almost 'nonexistent' at the time since it was largely unavailable for most folks who were not heavily into the importing scene. Plus, the fact that it was way more hella expensive and required more additional hardware + peripherals to play; pretty much seals the deal. Not too many fellow gamers whom I borrowed/traded games with back then, even owned or heard of a PCE anyway. Let alone the CD-ROM drive, and those other rare and rather expensive-ass add-on accessories that were required just to play this game. And I for one, would certainly NOT have bought that system only for the sake of just a few exclusive games that it offered. Nice informative comment, BTW!
The Mega Drive has the extra driving scene and it looks like they actually finished making the bar stage unlike the Super Nintendo version, but the strange thing is that the SNES version is the one to reveal that King is a women while the Mega Drive version, King's true identity remains a mystery. The Sega version of bottle cut has champagne spewing out of the bottle when broken while the SNES doesn't and also has China town while the SNES version is renamed Lee's town. It also has a little decoration on the bonus screen that the SNES version doesn't have. The SNES version however shows off the characters special moves after a bonus round which can help inexperienced players and the SNES's map screen has more buildings in the map while half of the map in the Mega Drive version is just empty land. For the victory cutscenes, the SNES version has the background of the scene with the characters sat neatly on the message box while the Mega Drive version have the characters cut like they're inside a box. The sound in the Mega Drive version is absolutely crap so nothing unusual there but the Mega Drive version is actually full screen unlike the SNES version where the screen is cropped under the health bars. But the SNES has screen scaling which is a defining feature in Art of Fighting and the Character sprites are much bigger. I'm going to say the Super Nintendo version wins but just barely.
That all depends on what your preferences are. I like genesis games and genesis music. Games like this always felt smoother to me on Sega genesis. And this is coming from a guy who grew up with SNES.
The Mega Drive port's music isn't too bad. It's the voices that are crappy. Also that scaling effect on the SNES port isn't even as good as the arcade game, and no matter how 'defining' that feature is, not everyone likes it, neither is it so important. Also, those sprites aren't WAY bigger, they're just bigger.
"The sound in the Mega Drive version is absolutely crap so nothing unusual there" Lol, idiot. There's tons of examples of good sound on the Mega Drive.
People are forgetting that the NeoGeo console was 24-bit and that their biggest advantage was that their cartridges used a lot of space to accomodate more memory, and SNK really used a lot of that! While Sega and Nintendo were in the 16-20-24 meg cartridge category, NeoGeo played the big leagues with cartridges over the 100+ Meg line. This of course led to a much higher capacity to 'pack in' what the system could do and also what could't do. Parallax and zoom feature at the same time for example. Something literally impossible under the normal circumstances of a limited space.

Megadrive has better detail but SNES has the zoom FX. Back then the SNES version impressed me the most, but it was still a Street Fighter wannabe. SNK got much better than this.
@@danfors1333 I guess it prolly makes sense they figured out that by removing all the scaling effects and keeping the sprites pretty small, it allowed the Genesis version to run alot faster and smoother?
Even though the SNES has the screen-scaling camera zoom effect, the SEGA Genesis version still looks significantly better, particularly in the background images. The Genesis overall is closer to the original game.
Off topic, but how much nicer does John's stage look than Guile's stage? Surely even the Genesis version of SF2 should have had all the background sprites, given how much there is in AOF.
You can tell that the Genesis version has better and more detailed graphics, thanks to the higher native resolution... The only advantage that the SNES has goin' for it is better music and bigger sprites. However, the SLOW-ASS-HELL 3.58 MHz processor's limited power and speed affects the overall gameplay quite a huge bit, and makes it really hard to pull off some moves. Like TONS of input lag! In my opinion, the Genesis version has excellent controls, much better hit detection, and plays even faster/smoother than the Neo Geo original. Hey, at least you can do some COMBOS here! If the Genesis version had 2x larger sprites and still played just as fast and smooth, then it surely would've taken the win for BEST port of them all! 🤔
I can´t decide. Why? Because every version has some flaws and some correct things. Backgrounds and speed are better in sega. Scaling and sprites better on snes.
the intro is cool but the genesis has higher resolution graphics, more detailed stages, more of the cutscenes intact including voice samples, plus the genesis has less slowdown. also, i know that it's in the arcade version, but i've always hated the zooming, it gives me a headache. genesis version ftw.
I partially agree. But some of the SNES is just slop. Incorrect stage names (Lee's town vs China Town), terrible art on SNES (Mickey's Stage), missing parts of cut scenes and of course laughable censorship
The SNES port is actually pretty accurate and true to the original! And Art of Fighting 2 on SNES is even better, it plays much faster and less clunky.
exc ept for zoom capacities, snes version is so ugly... : backgrounds are deepless and also musics on genesis are much better; as you can see genesis BG also take 3d effects...
SNES is doign mode 7 Zoom for background and seems to do sprite scaling for the two fighters. The only other time i saw mode 7 + sprite scaling was in chrono trigger's bike chase, with smaller sprites but rotating background and different sprites for each 45 degrees camera angle (this game comes probably close in quantity with all the fighters animations). So people thinking genesis does more just because of the parralax background are wrong. SNES can do this kind of things too in normal conditions. Just look at the different street fighter 2 versions. It can't be done there because in order to be able to scale the background in mode 7, you can only have one background so any parralax becomes impossible. NeoGeo can do all at the same time because everything is made of sprites on this system and on top of that it has enough power to scale everything in real time.
I think the audio is sorta messed up, with headphones at least. Genesis is on the right, and SNES is on the left. EDIT: my headphones were reversed. -_-
Because either the Mega Drive has less memory storage or the scaling feature is harder to establish, due to it being only done through software. The SNES was literally aided by an enhancement chip just to get the zoom effect.
@@TS-yz3ud The Genesis version could've just gone with the larger sprites and ditched the zooming altogether like they did with Samurai Showdown, and it still would've played/performed OK or decent at least. A 48-meg cart would've also helped WONDERS for the graphical details and sound/music. Seein' how that goddamn zooming effect hogged up all the system memory, and really BOGGED DOWN the SNES version of Samurai Shodown; I just really gotta wonder how it could've fared if only they had ditched that zooming effect? 🤔
Indeed, the early and mid 90s (16bit era, console wars, arcade boom!) were the greatest and most interesting time in video gaming history. I'm glad I was able to experience it!
SEGA looks better with the parallax- and floor-scrolling-effects instead the zoom-effects on the SNES (it's just like the Neo Geo original - and a nice attempt on 16bit - but pretty useless!)... There are also more details in the background and some better animations and spritework on Gessnesis. Altrough it sounds rough and scratchy like a NES bootleg game, this time SEGA wins I guess!
The backgrounds in the SNES version were quite lacking actually, when compared to the AES version... If only the sprites were about 2x larger on the Genesis, it would've been the clear and obvious winner. I couldn't give a FUCK or lay a SHIT about the endings tho!
@@OtomoTenzi yes, the backgrounds are lacking details because they included the zoom effect. I'm not a big fan of this game, even the original plays clunky and slow, but the music is actually pretty good.
@@greensun1334 Even if the backgrounds were bland, they could've at least done something about the slow speed and lagginess... For a whoppin' 80 bucks at release date, I dun think it was worth the investment!
Snes is the closest to the Arcade. The Genesis version however offered more exclusive features that made it more valueable. More Background, Cutscenes, Frames....etc. The sound is horrible though. Despite these additions, I would still prefere the Snes version.
I have the neogeo version but i must say both snes and md are close to the original in their own ways Cant choose a winner I bet gameplay wise they both are better than the neogeo version wich is just too hard imo, that game REALLY was made to empty every penny out of your pockets in the arcades
Honestly bro, I actually kinda ike the much higher and tougher difficulty of the Neo Geo version; cuz usually that warrants way more gameplay longevity and replay value... I betcha won't like payin' $200+ for a game that could prolly be beaten HELLA EASILY like on just 1 or 2 credits! 😝
lol, ok SNES keeps the zoom but it's so reduced that it's almost useless so I'm not sure if it's worth the price as on other hand this version has quite blurry graphics and some black borders all around the screen especially the big HUD! While Genesis version runs in higher resolution, fullscreen and even adds some parallax scrollings!
I'll give spirit towards the Sega Genesis version via the intermission screens and such but in the end of the day sadly, it was just abit TOO much for the SEGA console to handle in the end. Unlike other NEO GEO fighter titles, the Super Nes version edges it out feeling as close as your just about going to get to the AOF experience! Probably too that I've had alot of fun times playing the Super Nes version as well..A nice try on Sega's part but it was just too much and unrealistic to assume the Genesis was going to pull it off! A rare and much needed win for the Super Nes because it's reputation on NEO GEO ports isn't anything to brag about lolz.
Snes wins ! I've rented both these games from Indy video with its scaling zoom in future and Sony Sound chip Beats the Sega Genesis Yamaha sound as well.. not all games were better on SNES than Genesis but this one won on the SNES
@@TS-yz3ud trust me it won because it had spectacular effects and I like the sound effects better and just got your message 2 years later I have the NEO-GEO AES version by now.
@@demonology2629 1. Yeah, I can't imagine why you like the sound effects better. 2. The zoom effect honestly wasn't that great, much less the one reason why this port "won". It is a great feature for SNES, though. 3. Eh, nice to see you've had the best version since then.
@@TS-yz3ud 1. The sound wasn't all that great despite it being advertised cuz it was all PATCHY and MUFFLED in places... And 'Dolby Surround' just made it sound even worse unless you had it hooked up to a sound system that actually supports Dolby Surround (even then, it's still not that great). 2. The zoom effect only sucked the shit outta the SNES memory, and caused all the slowdowns and input lag that you struggled with all thru the years you've owned that game! 3. Should've just shelled out the extra bucks and went with the AES version right from the get-go. The prices on used AES carts started droppin' over the years eversince the ports came out. I even saw AOF2 go for $120 once! 4. The SNES version has NOT aged well.
The computer AI on the SNES version sucks BIG TIME... The lowest difficulty setting in the Neo Geo version (level 1) is like at least 3 or 4 times harder than even the highest difficulty setting in the SNES version (level 8). On the Neo Geo version, the CPU can just outcheaps or overpowers you quite easily. Their shit comes out FASTER, and they hit you ALOT harder! Just 1 normal fireball from Mr. Karate takes off like 50% of your health. When I first played the Neo Geo version, I literally had to continue like over 30 times just to beat Mr. Big! 😳
Tonny Smith These idiots really are Snes fanboys. So glad I was smart enough not to waste my money on a Super Nintendo. My cousin had a super Nintendo I was not impressed
Genesis for graphics and accuracy to arcade original. Nearly every stage has more detail going on. This is especially true with John's stage. the SNES version just looks lazy. SNES for music. The music was different, but I prefer many stages over the neo-geo/genesis version
MD/Genesis - Music/sounds suck, better detailing but lack of scaling hurts the big difference between this and other fighting games. Faster gameplay. No censoring but smaller sprites. 7.5/10 SNES - A little slower on the gameplay, censored, but the scaling and bigger sprites are a big deal. Memorable soundtrack. 8.0/10
I like both soundtracks actually. The Genesis soundtrack consists mostly of covers with that distinct Genesis feel that I love because nostalgia, and the Super Nintendo soundtrack has great remixes, especially Todo and Lee's themes. However, while the Genesis game is certainly lacking in its presentation (several voice samples are missing, different, less impressive intro, and no scaling) and is incredibly difficult with limited continues, the controls are much better and aside from the lack of scaling, the graphics are too in my opinion. I really try hard to love the Super Nintendo version for more than just its soundtrack, but I still prefer the Genesis port.
Arturo Macías indeed, Mac still has his bar in the SFC version, and not a cafe. NOJ wasn't as strict on content as Nintendo of America was. However Samurai Spirits on the SFC is still sadly censored, with no cut in half fatalies, not blood spray, and I scratch my head trying to figure out why that is so.
i prefer art of fighting and king of fighter above SF2 but i loe sf2... but can someone help me i dont know what he difference is between art of fighting and king of fighters
Ryuuko no ken don't exist without the zoom effect and his soundtrack. But i know that what is in dispute for the people is not the best version of the game but team MD vs team SNES.
While the Genesis does a good job with SamSho here it falls completely flat... The Snes one is far better in every aspect. The signature zoom & sound combo that made Aof great is all here.
Do ya think that they could've just gone with the Samurai Shodown method (no scaling) on AOF and came out with a much better game? I think if they used a bigger cart like 48 megs, they might've at least been able to retain alot more of the graphical details and sound/music/endings. 🤔
i have the same game in snes, and i never see the genesis version, but for i can see is a lot better than the snes, better graphics, and the stages have more detail; the zoom makes the game slow and dosn´t compensate the smooth of the genesis, for me, genesis is the winner on this game
??? The most arcade accurate version of the two is the SNES version which retains all the gameplay plus the scaling, which made Art of Fighting one of the novelties at the time. The Genesis couldn't pull said effect so they compensated by removing the scaling but retaining some extra details in the backgrounds. However between character sprites, scaling, intro, and audio (neither sound arcade perfect but the Hitachi chip on the Genesis was more limited than the Sony one in the SNES), the SNES version is the closes of the two to the arcade version.
yes, you are rigth, but again, i never play de genesis version, i and for the details on the stage and bonus stage , i think the snes version could do better is all i say
The Mega Drive does have more details, but the real shocker is the color depth being better on the Mega Drive as well. Still, I heard the SNES version plays better, so besides better graphics, you aren't missing out on much.
Genesis: More detailed graphics/animations, Close to original version in overall
SNES: Zoom-in Effect, Well arranged soundtracks, Voices are close to original than Genesis, THAT DAMN ENDING
Backgrounds of Genesis version have some nice 3-d perspective effects that Snes version lacks. Snes version have zoom effect though.
the original Neo Geo had flat backgrounds too focusing more on the scaling zooms, so the SNES is closer to the original game in that sense
@@hepwo91222 The backgrounds are still very good on Neo Geo. They don't have parallax, but at least they didn't look as barebones as the backgrounds on the SNES port. Some looked akin to the original Neo Geo game's backgrounds, but the others just looked like low budget versions.

I'll never believe that for a second. Yeah SNES sound tracks sound good but they were no match for Neo Geo. 🤣😂
@@beekarinsaan
It's not a matter of belief. It is a fact.
@@donhostiarra88 I am not saying the music is bad, it's just that it's not as good as the original. Neo Geo was able to produce some really good quality music. SNES was limited by its hardware. Neo Geo is sharper and clearer.
@@beekarinsaan
The SNES sound chip was more advanced, which makes sense since it's a newer system.
As for the ports:
- PC Engine (actually it's PC Engine + its CD add-on + the Arcade Card, yeah it's a bit messy to begin with): great sprites and sound but the fake scaling is a disaster + annoying loadings + the backgrounds are rather poor.
+Parallax Craze better gameplay in Genesis. ^^
+Canal Vc Decide OK. Genesis versions often have the best gameplay :)
+Parallax Craze looks like they even fixed and made the controls on Genesis even better than the NeoGeo. which I will take any day
Sega Genesis/Mega Drive has the best port in my opinion.
The PCE version needs faster load times, the Genesis version needs larger sprites, and the SNES version needs tighter controls.
Genesis has more background detail and motion cutscenes before every fight. SNES has better audio and character graphics.
A versão do SNES fez melhor !
SNES has better character graphics but sega has better stage graphics. Characters run better on SNES.
The SNES version has larger sprites, but the Genesis version has much better details if you look carefully tho... 🧐
What? Genesis has a transparent shadow and SNES has a dithered shadow? What sorcery is this?
+Maiti Dukku Magic indeed, Roope Seta
Well it could be using mode 7 for zooming thus it can't use interlase to pull off transparency on snes.
Proof the Mega Drive can do transparency unlike what everyone else believes.
What about F-Zero?
I think the SNES also has the arcade "desperation moves". I had the Genesis version and it didn't have it.

Chris Kurz, if we talk about fanboyism, Nintentards are second to none.
As a gamer and I repeat as a gamer who likes both systems I like the SNES version better

How did the SNES achieve the zoom effect?
Mode 7
Yeargh, it shure sounds like a whole buncha FUCKERY to me!

@@TS-yz3ud Yes it is... He seems quite well-informed and insightful, plus he isn't talkin' like his SHIT dun stink!
SNES OST sound very good!!!.
The SNES soundchips were alot more advanced.
"The sound in the Mega Drive version is absolutely crap so nothing unusual there"
Lol, idiot. There's tons of examples of good sound on the Mega Drive.
Cadê o zoom no Mega? E cadê o cenário no Snes?
Genesis: more funny
Snes: more faithful to original game
People are forgetting that the NeoGeo console was 24-bit and that their biggest advantage was that their cartridges used a lot of space to accomodate more memory, and SNK really used a lot of that! While Sega and Nintendo were in the 16-20-24 meg cartridge category, NeoGeo played the big leagues with cartridges over the 100+ Meg line. This of course led to a much higher capacity to 'pack in' what the system could do and also what could't do. Parallax and zoom feature at the same time for example. Something literally impossible under the normal circumstances of a limited space.

Even though the SNES has the screen-scaling camera zoom effect, the SEGA Genesis version still looks significantly better, particularly in the background images. The Genesis overall is closer to the original game.
Genesis prospers this time, especially with those shadows. Doing transparency better than both its competition and its successor.
Sega has the better presentation and better details inside the bonus game.
I partially agree. But some of the SNES is just slop. Incorrect stage names (Lee's town vs China Town), terrible art on SNES (Mickey's Stage), missing parts of cut scenes and of course laughable censorship
He did say, "better," without editing his original comment. What were *you* reading is the real question?
SNES is closer to the original.
SNES version beats all! Those who said otherwise can taste my zanbato!

im not a sega fanboy, im not a nintendo fanboy, i really enjoy both, but snes wins this one
What's with all th snes wins comments...The genesis version has much ore detailed stages and is cleaned..and runs smoother
I gotta give it to the snes for having zooming. I don't get why the smd couldn't have that with it's faster processor. :(
Because either the Mega Drive has less memory storage or the scaling feature is harder to establish, due to it being only done through software.
Genesis for graphics, SNES for the re-arranged music (at least for Mr. Todo, Jack, King, Mickey, and Mr.Big's stage)
" INITIATE SUPER FIRE BRO!"
The SNES had the effect of panning in and out that the Genesis lacked. Made the game more movie like.
Snes is the closest to the Arcade. The Genesis version however offered more exclusive features that made it more valueable. More Background, Cutscenes, Frames....etc. The sound is horrible though. Despite these additions, I would still prefere the Snes version.
I have the neogeo version but i must say both snes and md are close to the original in their own ways
Cant choose a winner
I bet gameplay wise they both are better than the neogeo version wich is just too hard imo, that game REALLY was made to empty every penny out of your pockets in the arcades
SNES port plays the worst, apparently.
Thank you for bringing up the reduced zooming. Also, if you think it's useless here, you should see the SNES port of the second game.
Brah.😩
Sens é o melhor, não há comparação.
I like the detail on the genesis but like the bigger characters on the snes but I like the arcade version over both
Snes wins ! I've rented both these games from Indy video with its scaling zoom in future and Sony Sound chip Beats the Sega Genesis Yamaha sound as well.. not all games were better on SNES than Genesis but this one won on the SNES
Trust me, it only won probably because it sold more. It's still worse.
@@TS-yz3ud trust me it won because it had spectacular effects and I like the sound effects better and just got your message 2 years later I have the NEO-GEO AES version by now.
@@demonology2629
1. Yeah, I can't imagine why you like the sound effects better.
2. The zoom effect honestly wasn't that great, much less the one reason why this port "won". It is a great feature for SNES, though.
3. Eh, nice to see you've had the best version since then.
@@TS-yz3ud
Now I understand Snes bad correct aspect. They look "wider"
The Genesis version sounds like the Sonic Team made it...lmao.
Is it because it's a Genesis port?
I think BOTH versions prolly could've fare better with a slightly faster processor and a few more megs... : P
snes is missing a lot of background detail. genesis is the better choice
Big! 😳
The SNES is better than the Sega Genesis from Art of Fighting.
snes lacks detail
How formal for a fanboy. By the way, it's 'for' and not 'from'. However, I forgive you since English isn't your first language. Is it?
Tonny Smith These idiots really are Snes fanboys. So glad I was smart enough not to waste my money on a Super Nintendo. My cousin had a super Nintendo I was not impressed
Had them both, huge sega fan but SNES wins this one hands down
Genesis for graphics and accuracy to arcade original. Nearly every stage has more detail going on. This is especially true with John's stage. the SNES version just looks lazy.
SNES for music. The music was different, but I prefer many stages over the neo-geo/genesis version
you forgot to mentiom the zoom effects of snes
Snes stages are really lacking. MD/Genesis stages also have a scroll effect on the floor, not present on the arcade version.
But pointless.
MD/Genesis - Music/sounds suck, better detailing but lack of scaling hurts the big difference between this and other fighting games. Faster gameplay. No censoring but smaller sprites. 7.5/10
SNES - A little slower on the gameplay, censored, but the scaling and bigger sprites are a big deal.
They SFC hasn't sensorship
Arturo Macías indeed, Mac still has his bar in the SFC version, and not a cafe. NOJ wasn't as strict on content as Nintendo of America was. However Samurai Spirits on the SFC is still sadly censored, with no cut in half fatalies, not blood spray, and I scratch my head trying to figure out why that is so.
The SNES version was the best to me.I slightly favor it over the arcade version.
Is it because it's the easiest? Regardless, the controls are kind of sloppy at the same time.
Sega version fullscreen , Snes not...Sega won this one
Bruh
Genesis
snes couldn't afford a car on the story mode, I guess they went bankrupt he had to walk!
HAHAHAR!!! 🤣
Absolutely! :3
A versão do snes realmente ficou melhor.
i prefer art of fighting and king of fighter above SF2 but i loe sf2... but can someone help me i dont know what he difference is between art of fighting and king of fighters
You're prolly better off with KOF cuz they still make new installments like almost every few years...
Ryuuko no ken don't exist without the zoom effect and his soundtrack.
But i know that what is in dispute for the people is not the best version of the game but team MD vs team SNES.
The Mega Drive port is better, mainly because it doesn't spoil the second game.
SNES WINS, massacre total nesse Port!!!
Também acho
PUUUUUUUUUUT... 👎🗑
Still, I heard the SNES version plays better, so besides better graphics, you aren't missing out on much.
genesis looks better but some fonts stage looks better on snes , example stage selection or destination
Sega all day. U have to be honest when u see something better and put ur feeling to the side
Mega Drive High Definition Graphics - it says so on the console!
