Sega version is quite decent overall. What is really annoying is its sound. The voices and sound effects sound like crap. Music is not bad for a Genesis game though. The "camera zoom" effect found in Arcade/SNES version was really a thing that time, but looking today, it seems a little superfluous, it doesn't seem very important. I'd trade that zoom effect for better voices and sound effects in Genesis version anytime and I'd call it near perfect in such case.
For anyone like my self who never saw the neogeo version running which back in the 90s we hardly ever saw a machine face to face if ever as we had no TH-cam just screen shots in mag and the odd posh game shop that had a neogeo on display then aof on the megadrive was a really good port for 16bit especially when you take into consideration where to game originated, the mighty neogeo.
I can still vividly remember seeing a tiny preview screenshot of the early SNES port of Fatal Fury in Gamepro Magazine all the way back in the spring or summer of 1992. You know, like how they used to post screenshots along with a short description of new and upcoming games on the very back pages of their magazine every month? I got really excited just looking at that single screenshot; thinking of how close it was gonna be to the Neo Geo version! Then about a year later when I finally got the game for my SNES, I was like... 😞
Art of fighting is my favourite one on one fighting game. I got the Japanese megadrive version way back in the 90s when it came out and at the time was disappointed with it. I then got it on the SNES and that version I always thought was far better than the megadrive since it had the scaling in place which although a gimmick it seemed to play more like the neo geo version. I then tried the pc engine version and then thought it was even closer to the neo geo version as it had bruising and scaling which I didn’t think was as bad as some people did. I enjoy playing all versions of art of Fighting but the best still is the neo geo. However when it comes to art of fighting 2 I much prefer the SNES over the neo geo.
Did you also try the PS2 version on AOF Anthology? Arguably, that version was the closest 'port' since it was literally the same identical game as the Neo Geo. However tho, I believe that there were still some minor flaws and differences in the PS2 version that still makes it feel inferior to the Neo Geo original.
The GENESIS does his Job very good! It's not possible to include the Zoom-Effect but SEGA has Line-Scrolling at the Floor, NEO GEO doesn't have this. Real nice Work for 16bit!
In the last stage. I actually like how it looks on the Genesis compared to the Neo Geo. Especially the color of the floor and other things in the background. Sega did a really good job on this port. The last stage always looked amazing to me on the Genesis version. I own the Genesis Version and the PC Engine Version.
The SEGA-Version has Parallax- and Floor-Scrolling-Effects, the Original has nothing of it. Instead it has the Zoom-Effect, what is not possible to make it on 16bit! This is a great Port on the GENESIS!
Neo geo> MD almost everything, MD> Neogeo in Parallax effects. Unquestionable Neogeo is superior to all versions of consoles, but the MD has the only features that neither found console had and even the same Neogeo, the Parallax 3D effect in the funds and even on the floor. maybe it's related to the zoom effect. I would also add that the gameplay is better in MD since the zoom effect affected the gameplay.
I remember the Sega development saying that they decided not to put the zooming in the Genesis version as they believed it affected the gameplay and removed it in favor of better gameplay and other effects, most likely the parallax scrolling. I would have liked to the zooming in the Genesis version though.
@@OtomoTenzi Yeah, it turned out well for the Genisis, as the graphics in that version stopped all over the SNES one. But it was fun seeing how close the SNES version could get to the Neo Geo original.

Look at the Tree in the first stage (Todo's stage). You see how the tree looks when the characters are moving on the Genesis version (2nd background layer). Where on the Neo Geo version it is all one layer. This is an advantage the Mega Drive had over the Neo Geo. The Mega Drive could do scrolling background layers. While the Neo Geo had one single non-scrolling fix layer. To simulate scrolling layers it had to rely on drawing sprites to create the scrolling. At the end of the day. Im very happy Sega reprogrammed the game and not some other 3rd party.
