    This tasting took some serious guts! It’s so tough to taste between vintages in a region like Barolo which is full of talented producers who know their vineyards and how to adjust production. That and addition to the high level of tannins and acidity. I found some beautiful wines from producers in Europe during the poor 2014 vintage as some declassify fruit from top vintages and make less wine but better (which you cover later in the video)
    Side note, of recent vintages in Barolo… 2016 always stands out for me. The wines are so spectacular already! Let’s see how they come along.

      I actually did have 2016 vintage and yet I didn’t include it in the tasting. I wanted to have very distinctive differences between the vintages, and even then it proved to be way too difficult. 😩

      @@NoSediment Going all out is no shame, would be cool if you also added the beautiful 2016. But even without it a great video again! All in all i think you did fantastic, mixing up 17 and 18 is no biggie, that you had the guts like Matt says to make the video is a bigger deal, love these new blind tasting videos and your short concise summaries of each wine. Super good! looking forward to more tastings in the future.

    Sweet! Your expression adds a lot. "Oos & Ahs, wows, & hmms" are the most important part of tasting, enjoyment. Eye and hand movements too. Easy to hear and understand tool.
    plus -- You are looking for the best aspects of wine,the expression and evolutionover time, as you taste and as it ages. Great wines can start great and get incredible over a whole evening. Your vintage show really works well. Viva la difference! More vintages to taste make a the weather and land talk, so great wines that can age teach the bigger picture and value from all great wine. More please! Yay wine! Thank you so much, because Barolo and age are the thing!

      Great to hear that You enjoy that part, but actually a lot of that was cut out and/or sped up. Me enjoying wine or talking about it can sometimes take too much time! 🤫 Cheers and thank You! 🙏🏻

    Oh no..I got the same vintages as you did. Using your descriptions only. 18-14-10-17. Close enough though, older vintages 2-3 and recent vintages 1-4. Not bad

    Can you even compare them if you Drink them in the same year? Shouldnt you drink them at the same age?

    • @NoSediment
      @NoSediment  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is literally impossible. :))) we cannot have different vintages and taste them at the same time and therefore compare. If I would want to do the tasting as You mentioned, then it should be comparison done over several decades. 😉

    Another interesting & intriguing video, yes vintage does make a big difference in the "classic regions". I was guessing along with you and got the 2010 and 2014 correct. The other two I wasn't sure, as I don't drink that much Barolo.
    What I was basing my guesses on were the differences in degrees of primary, secondary and tertiary notes. Formerly the "rule" was don't open a Barolo before 10 years after the vintage, but that doesn't seem to apply anymore.
    I generally try to wait as long as possible when opening high quality wines, e.g. Amarone, Barolo, Tokaji Aszu, Brunello, Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel, Rioja Gran Reserva, etc. (Sorry for the rambling. 🙂) With me aging, I find that I enjoy tertiary and well integrated wines more than ones primarily based on fruit, tannins and acid.

    • @NoSediment
      @NoSediment  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank You for the comment. 🙏🏻 You always have really great insight to add. But for once I will have to disagree with You. 😅 My personal opinion is that we put too much emphasis on wine’s ageing. There is no rule that wine should be opened as late as possible, in fact many wines loose their fruit. For example, Amarone is always drinking nicely when young, because of its winemaking technique. I don’t know where did the notion came that it should be aged, as it tends to have quite high VA levels already at the bottling, and it will only increase.
      We all should follow less rules and more trust our own feelings. This is why I am talking about topics that other people find controversial. 😅

    • @solomonmengeu1003
      @solomonmengeu1003 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @NoSediment I was expressing my opinion not trying to reiterate old sad tired notions or " rules." I don't know who said, but I totally agree, "The only rule now with drinking and pairing wine is that there are no rules". 😀.
      So I completely agree with you that we should follow and trust our own palate. Not what we learned or where taught 5 or 10 years ago. Wine should be about fun, pleasure, and enjoyment . And yes, all of these wines can be enjoyed at each stage of their development.

    "Animalistic", I do not believe that I have ever heard a wine described in that term before, the wines sounded wonderful.

    I stumbled upon a vintages charts service where you can look up countries, regions and sub-regions/styles and check the years. My wines were not bought considering the specifics of the years, so I expected them to be from poor vintages because I thought maybe the market picked clean all the best ones. Turns out that wasn't the fact and I was delighted to find that I have some lucky high scoring vintages. But I'm guessing this is because my wines are not expensive. I bet that in the top market layers it's a different story.

    • @NoSediment
      @NoSediment  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good for You! I think it depends on the wine style and region as well. Burgundy is always much harder to source, for example. 😢

  • @VektrumSimulacrum

    You know what would be nice, now that you mentioned it. It would be nice if wine producers started publishing easy to locate notes about the weather conditions for each vintage. On a side note...Agnese...HALP! My dad came home with 25+ bottles of not-age worthy wine. (also probably not store in the best way) Tips and tricks to use up wine (that's not bad but not good) in other ways other than drinking it? 😅👀

    • @NoSediment
      @NoSediment  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank You for the comment. 🙏🏻 I think some winemakers do that and You can find the vintage differences on their web page. However, most will be outdated. :(
      As for the wine, I use all the wine that I don’t finish in cooking. Sauces, stocks and risotto, wine is always a nice addition and adds flavour depth. Some of my friends once experimented with making vinegar, that is something that also could work. 🤞

    Okay! I was making mental notes and making my own guesses and I also mixed up 17-18 (got the 2014 and had no idea about the 2010). It's relieving to make similar reasonings as the experts, even if we're all headed into the same mistake! Learning is actually more fun than success, tbh

    How much wine is it ok to drink?

    • @NoSediment
      @NoSediment  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I will say this: the less the better. Wine is an alcohol after all, with all the consequences it brings. Therefore it is best to not abuse it and enjoy in moderation. I will have a one glass of a better, higher quality wine than two or three of mediocre wine. 😅

      @robinazzo 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@NoSediment of course but would you say that a 1-2 glasses with dinner is ok on the everyday basis or just a couple of times per week?
