I’m glad you enjoyed it. I think this format was good, plenty of lighthearted conversation. Perhaps a more structured, formal tasting could have its place as well.
Hands down one of my favorite videos you have done to date. Love the conversations and seeing all the difference in thought that each taster had in coming up with an opinion. Thank you for taking the time to do this!
Great fun! Having participated in many blind tastings, I know how hard it is to identify wines with all the possibilities. And I don't have the expertise of people like Bob. Just great fun.
Hello Bob… Many thanks for the time and effort to produce this highly entertaining/ informative video. Now this is SPECIAL. I watched many many blind-tasting-themed videos… and have to say: You cracked the code!!!” By that I mean your novel formula hit the mark. Because of 3 features (in my humble opinion): 1) Having 4 experienced tasters… with different backgrounds and experience levels… often with different opinions; 2) a maestro (you) to lead, organize and educate; and 3) revealing each bottle IMMEDIATELY after tasting it when the discussion material is still fresh in memory… something that is rarely done on other channels. So, thanks… and do more. Finally a question: I assume none of you knew what the 6 bottles are. Correct?
Hi Tarek, this video was a lot of fun, good group of people. It was interesting talking through each wine as a collective group. The tasting was blind for each participant.
That was really fun and informative at the same time. I enjoyed this with my wife and some wine. We even paused and discussed what we think the wines were based on your descriptions. Please do more of these!
Thank you very much Bob for this video. very informative and educational. I am currently a WSET diploma student. not yet to start D3, but this is very interesting to see, learn and understand the thinking path of doing a blind tasting. I would love some more of these videos, but any contents you have been producing were top quality. I also enjoy your wine quiz section too.
Your comment is very much appreciated. Additional tasting videos are in the queue. Do you feel that it enhances the video with the addition of winemakers on the video?
@@bobpaulinskimasterofwinethank you very much for your reply. Yes, I do find the collaboration with people passionate about wine would stimulate audience/me and enhance the video quality. for WSET, it helps me to learn and describe the wine in a "correct academic" way, it was also great to know your thinking process of pin down the wine. With others, it show how fascinating wine can be. different people has different palate, preferences, favourites etc. it was fascinating how Rich has got the 5th wine perfectly. This definitely widen your already educational channel. I would hope to know how the winemakers may overcome some flaws in the wine, e.g if the wine wasn't that good, how would they make it better. This may be quite personal to the winemaker in terms of style they prefer, but it would be quite interesting to me. lastly, may I ask for the price given in the video, are they including tax?👍
@@WYHC1001 With blind tasting, it’s all about focusing on what’s in the glass. There is always a risk of coming to a conclusion, then building a case to support it. Group tasting helps to avoid that pitfall. The quotes prices are a suggested US retail price without tax. Some of the wines in the video will not be available in the US or very limited in availability.
Fantastic video Bob, loved the blind tasting along with some really good guests. I thought whoever picked out the wines did a great job from different regions of the world along with a nice mix of varietals. The amount of information that all of you discussed to decide which wine you thought you were tasting was just a treat and an education. Keep up the great work, and cheers.
Great to see the shout out to Hidden Bench, one of the better producers in Niagara. They also have excellent Sauvignon Blanc, Fume Blanc and Pinot. You should give these a try as well! Thanks for the tasting!
Thanks for commenting. Hidden Bench is very impressive. I can’t find it in CA, but I’ll pick it up again on my next trip to Ontario. Sounds like a good place to visit.
Hi Carl, thanks for the comment. I’ll be in Portugal in September as well. If our itineraries line up, I’d welcome an opportunity to chat over a glass of wine.
...poured big boy wine glass 😂😂😂😂 yoh really teach me some funny expressions 😂😂 I finally managed to sit down and watch this video and I really enjoyed, thanks Bob!
That’s a long video, only a couple of thousand views. Those who watched it, tended to watch a lot of it. Big boy wine glass was at the very end. Thanks!
@bobpaulinskimasterofwine oh yes, I watched all of it till the end 😊 the other joke that cracked me up was when you said: "if this wine is from Washington, I'll pack up my things and leave".. or something similar 😂 I held my breath there, though 😬
Really cool tasting! We actually visited the Hidden Bench winery and they are really worth looking into. Great Rieslings, Chardonnays and Sauv Blancs. Their reds are interesting too but less to my taste. Their late harvest Riesling is amazing as well!
@bobpaulinskimasterofwine7234 yeah we went last summer. They have a great tasting room where they go through their main lineup. Very professional staff, lovely winery and worth stopping by on your next trip to Niagara region. We also enjoyed Pilliteri but it's a bit more complicated to get a tour or tasting from them.
Great video and love the Canadian feature! Hidden Bench is one of the top wineries in Ontario for their old-world style (mostly) Chardonnay & Pinot Noir bottlings. Have you visited any wineries in Ontario?
Thanks for the good word on the video. I was very impressed with Hidden Bench. I visited Quebec and Ontario a few months ago. No wineries were visited but I tasted a good number of wines from local wineries. The bottle of Hidden Bench was purchased at the LCBO store on King St in Toronto. It was added to cellar stock, then by chance worked into this blind tasting.
Gosh, there's so much to take in from this video. I've always thought that blind tasting in a large group (more than two people) is a great game, but you cannot function in the same way as when it's mostly introspective work. I feel they're like two totally different skills around the same thing. Would you agree? I'd swear I could see you struggling to keep playing in the group while a part of you was still trying to follow the deductive patterns you've trained for. This creates two competing states of mind in my experience, which sure doesn't make things any easier. Right now I'm wondering which works better: try to deduce winemaking and viticultural conditions first, then cross-examine it with varietal stuff, or first trying to get a good guess on the grape(s) from the nose and structure, and then move on to what places produce that grape in a style coherent with what you get? Great format for every now and then, btw! It's probably hard work to produce and edit these videos, and I think committed wine geeks like us in this community will appreciate it. Cheers!
Blind tasting as group is certainly different than tasting solo. Also, it was a first time tasting with this group of individuals. The power of suggestion comes into play. There’s a risk of jumping too quickly to a conclusion, then building a case to get to a final outcome. When tasting solo, I find it easier to focus on solely the contents of the wine glass, then methodically working to an end result. It was fun video, good people with plenty of laughs. I’ll likely revisit this same format again. I’m glad you enjoyed the video.
What a treat- really enjoyed the long form, largely uncut tasting discussion. Felt like front row seats to a masterclass
I’m glad you enjoyed it. Thank you!
Really cool to have a long length video regarding blind tasting. Interesting to have a tasting with winemakers also.
