    For anyone who is wandering. I made this wine I am drinking it right now. Omg thank you so much paw paw. I've drank wine before never liked it but this I love. I let it go from August 25th of 2019 until September 16th of 2019. People if you want to have a good sipping wine or dinner wine. Follow pawpaw's instructions to a T and you will end up with great wine to drink and or share with loved ones.

    "If you have a constipation problems .... (don't know how to write this sound ;d);
    Dad took it to my grandmother's house one Christmas. She thought it was just juice and drank a big water glass full. Only time I EVER saw her dance."
    My MAN you are HILARIOUS, NOW I have a great humor to the rest of this day and probably tomorrow too.
    My grandma did wine in a similar way (with closing a bottle) but she was squeezing the juice out of the fruits and we are from Poland in Europe, well her body is dead now but her legacy (genes) is running through my veins now, don't know why but just wanted that to share with you :D.
    Subscribed and liked
    Have a WONDERFUL year.
    Cheers

    great video! You've got 1 more subscriber. i enjoy the bit of humor you use also. years ago my grandma resorted to selling wine out of her house because she couldn't make it on her ssi check. she made all sorts of wines such as dandelion, tomato, elderberry, etc. that tomato wine would knock your socks off. her rule was buy it here drink it at home. much like you she didn't use any of the fancy equipment or techniques you see in videos today. she always placed a piece of toast with yeast on top of the liquid. the next day that piece of toast would cover the entire top of the bucket. she said it lets it breath and keeps the critters out. i was very young then and couldn't say if it did or not, but one thing was for sure though. she did 1 heck of a business out of her tiny little house.

You know the practical, down home methods that I want to use.

    I have been looking at wine making videos for days and this is the best and simplest one I have come across. Thank you so much! No matter what you are using for tools, these instructions work! Thank you! I am using fresh wine grapes off of my grape vine and I am using a latex glove, but that is the only difference. Just mash the grapes into must and then follow this video. I just started it today. Fingers crossed.

      You did say that your wine is ready in three weeks and in another video I saw you pour the ready wine into a smaller bottle. So at that time, did you just close the bottle tightly? I assume you don't need to do the quarter turn on the cap to let the air out.

    • @DoingItCheap
      @DoingItCheap  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      When you saw me "rack" the wine. That means siphon it off into smaller containers. I was transferring the wine to other containers trying to leave the sediment in the original. You DO NOT want to seal the bottle tight if it is a screw on lid. Unless you freeze the wine for a few days to kill the yeast, it is possible for it to continue fermenting and that builds pressure in a sealed container. I just put it in the refrigerator and try to coordinate the timing for a new batch to come off about the time I am done with what is in the refrigerator. Those mason jars were tightened and then the lid backed off about a half turn.

    I actually homebrew beer and went to my local brewing supplier and he gave me a glass of a wine he had made..it was VERY high alcohol content LOL...I was shocked when I asked his ingredients...he laughed and told me how he made it. It was very close to this, the only difference is he did his in a larger batch, 5 gallons. He used liquid Concord grape juice and with the sugar, he slowly added his sugar to boiling water, dissolving the sugar into the water until it was very thick, then added it to the juice after it cooled. As to the yeast he used a champagne yeast. I am not a wine drinker and was really shocked at how good it was
    This is very good. lots of good tips, thanks for sharing your method.

    Hi Paw Paw. Just recently found your channel, and I'm glad I did. I have been brewing beer for over 20 years. What your doing there,, (to make homemade wine), is about 100 times simpler. You couldn't do that with beer. I believe it's because the wine yeast will tolerate much higher alcohol content than beer yeast. So it naturally kills off the nasties as it ferments.

    Just as an added precaution, I also put a ziplock or sandwich bag with a rubber band over the cracked open lid, where the rubber band is below the lid, so that it doesn't interfere with the lid itself. It just probably helps trap some more co2, not necessary and no idea if it actually helps, but it's fun.

    Paw Paw, I'm a new subscriber and I think I've watched most of your wine making videos. I love the way you make wine, simple and natural. My grandparents used to make alot of wine years ago before they passed. They made wine from everything, including dandelions, which would knock your socks off, to natural whole fruit. My grandmother gave me a book with all her recipes in it, but I was a teenager then and my parents made it disappear. I have one recipe left that I found, but haven't tried it yet. She made grape wine with no store bought yeast. Matter of fact, this is the exact recipe I have:
    "Pick grapes from stems, wash them being very careful not to mash the seeds. To each gallon crushed grapes, put one gallon water. Put into earthen vessel and tie two thickness of cheesecloth over top of jar. Set in a warm place, but not in the sun. After three weeks of warm weather, strain though colander, then through 2 thickness of cheese cloth. To each gallon of juice, add three pounds of sugar. Stir until dissolved. After washing the jar which it was in, return to the same jar which it was in and tie two layers of cheese cloth over top. Let stand again for three weeks, by which time it should sparkle. Strain again and bottle".
    I remember my granddad making dandelion wine after grandma passed. He had no bottles to put them in and instead put them in mason jars and tightened the lids. Needless to say, they blew, and when they did, it peeled the paint off the walls and ceiling in the kitchen. I got a call for help from him and a friend of mine and me went and cleaned up the mess and repainted everything. He gave us a bottle of dandelion wine that him and grandma had made. I don't know how old it was, but I remember the burn when it went down and exploded in my belly. Remember the buzz, too. I don't remember seeing any of your videos made from real fruit, but I may have missed it. Do you have any recipes from real fruit that you could share? It would really be appreciated. I'm almost 66 years old, so that's how long it's been since this recipe has been around that I know of. I really enjoy your videos. You prove that you don't have to be a chemist or have to spend a bunch of hard earned money on expensive equipment to make good tasting wine. My opoligies for such a long comment for such a short question. Thanks and keep on keeping on teaching and entertaining us.
    Mike Crane

      .
      As far as using fruit....... think about what you just told me in your grandparent's instructions...........they actually made the wine from the JUICE and not the fruit. The first three weeks were to extract natural yeast from the fruit. I don't like cheesecloth because of the possibility of wine flies and other fruit flies getting in it.....BTW those mason jars

    • @DoingItCheap
      @DoingItCheap  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Part TWO..... those mason jars exploded because it wasn't finished bubbling.

      @@DoingItCheap I'm sorry, I left one part out. This recipe was for "Wild grape wine", which I figure was the reason for so much sugar. And you are right about extracting the juice naturally, I can understand that. And yes, my grandad was getting pretty old at the time and probably put the green wine in the mason jars. Trueth known, grandma made most of the wine and he drank most of it. Lol . I recond he just missed grandma's wine. Thanks for responding!

      It IS simple. Too many people do everything they can to make it hard. All you do is mix juice, sugar and a little yeast. Put it in a dark warm place with the lid loose so gases can escape and drink it when it quits bubbling !

      The actual purpose of this video was to make fun of the so called "winemakers" that think everything has to be THUS and SO...... If Egyptians could make wine in a crock covered with a piece of cloth, I figure we can keep it simple also. Watch my other wine videos for a more accurate measurement and easier process.

      @@DoingItCheap I am brewing all sorts of stuff. I got all my materials for free. Carboys, bottles, cappers, tubes, siphons, buckets, funnels, carboy carriers, etc etc etc. Started small just like this video and got hooked. Brewing 125 gallons as we speak. I hunted the stuff down on Craigslist and online selling apps. ANYONE with time and space enough for the brewing vessel/a can brew beer, wine, kombucha, Applejack, make spirits, whatever your cup of tea. Btw some stores give away free food grade buckets ranging from 1 gallon to five. My local bar leaves their bottles in boxes for me by dump so I can take what I want and throw the rest in their bin
