How much does football boot technology matter? Well, it depends on who you ask and it certainly depends on the boot. Regardless of your opinion, I think it's hard to argue that the "speed" category of football boots hasn't made significant progress due to new tech. The Nike Mercurial Vapor 13 Elite being the latest in high-tech "speed" boots, featuring various new technologies that genuinely benefit the objective performance! But does more tech always result in a better boot?
In this video we take a closer look at the Adidas X 19.1 in the latest pink Locality pack colorway, a football boot that in comparison to the current Mercurial is pretty low-tech, but arguably better! I compare the two and discuss when and where these new boot technologies both benefit and hurt the performance or experience of these two flagship "speed" boots. Which one would you rather wear?

I'm not a one brand person, I've tried all, and Nike has some serious tech and tightness on mercurials, but Adidas is Adidas. Always consistent, comfortable, light and good looking speed boots.

I love all of the high end adidas boots but I faced durability issues with all of the ones that I've owned. My Nike premier has survived for almost two years and it still looks new.

Hi Joseiah, although you mentioned a lot in other videos about the grip of the predator helping to curve the ball and how it impacts shooting, does the grip help out in dribbling? Especially in close control? Thanks :)
If you're somebody that tends to drag the ball when dribbling, it'll take some getting used to, and/or you might not like the extra grip. Otherwise, it's just a different feel and not something that I would describe as an advantage of any kind.
Is the Nike react phantom vision 2 pro dynamic fit IC good for running or is it bad for speedy players.

Those pads in the heel liner remind me of the pads that were in the mercurials during the vapor V. I had the talarias, and those pads gave me pretty bad blisters, and I recall Josh saying the pads in the Vapor IV gave him blisters too. How are these different from those?
The pads on top-end Vapors were made out of a hard foam, it gripped your heel really well, but was very likely to cause blisters. The Talaria was more similar to these, but nowhere near as good. The heel pads in the X is very different from past Mercs. They're basically two very soft pillows that your heel sinks into. Very comfortable.

Firstly, I've been a fan since the days of your written reviews. Do you find that there is a high arch in the Mercs? I bought some for the first time and had to return them. I have flat feet, I guess. Other than that I loved them. Any recommendations for flat feet that come close to the snug, razor sharp touch that the Mercs offer? Thanks! Keep em coming!
They don't so much have a high archm it's just how the upper grabs the mid-foot. If you have flat feet and are sensitive to pressure around the arch, or lack there of, Mercurials can be uncomfortable for you. The Phantom Venom Elite as an alternative wouldn't be a bad option if you're looking for a thin flyknit upper.

I have a pair of nike phantom venom elite and because of quarantine and bad weather in the uk ive only played one game in them and the soleplate has split in it where it has a very faint rige around the sole, is this a comon problem?
It might be an issue. If you have a warranty, you should return it since you only wore it once..

The Solista is more or less on the same level, or at least very close, but given the choice I'd pick the X. The Lotto is a solid option though.

I ordered the x19.1.. I have the X 18.1. after wearing them for a bit, it gets soooooo comfortable. Like it moulds to your foot. So I would strongly recommend the X but haven't tried the preds... So
now i can't choose they're both so good

i have a question. What do you think the best football boots are with so called “aggressive traction”. For instance, Nike has many boots with a “spike” closer to the toe. Rather than adidas that has two parallel spikes closer to the sole of your foot.
Mercurial and Phantom Venom FG stud patterns are pretty well as aggressive as it gets. NB Furon V6 is up there as well.

Less is more thats why the F50s were so popular . I loved the barefoot feel of the ACE 16.1 bring that back with the X19 stud pattern and that would be an amazing boot !
Honestly i think the X line has so much potential but my one problem with it not enough lockdown because the lacing system isn’t deep enough and i think it would 100% be better if it would run a bit deeper
That would be great but for me, the X is kinda perfect yknow. I mean I prefer a comfortable boot. So I dont really like tight hugging boots I haven't tried the mercurial tho. For me, if the X had a lower collar and a more flexible soleplate, it would perfect. Just my opinion

I think i know why the speed boot category is the most popular this days: it is the most make sense by it features.
Just think about it -
Power: are rubbers will make you shoot stronger? No.
Control:are some gimmicks/textring will approve your control? Obviously no.
Speed:are lighter materials will make you faster? Well actually not necessarily, but at least its the most make sense one (I mean, it will easier to run faster, right?
