I've been adding strands to soft plastic baits for 50 years since I was a kid. As a kid there was no Senkos, helgramite type baits so I would and still do add skirt material or yarn as well as embroidery thread. The dice may work for some but to rich for my blood or disability check lol.
Timing is everything. Just threw away some jig material. Watched this video and “dumpster dived” in my garbage and retrieved some of that jig material. Will be fun to experiment a little. Thank you.
I've been hanging on to two bags of the OSP Dice. Kinda scared to use them. Wanna wait until I know there's some decent fish in the area. I like this small stick bait idea, as I can use my G7 worm tubes so the smaller fish can't pull it off as easily. Please keep us posted and maybe do a follow up video after you've spent more time fishing these 👍
There are so many possibilities with this Steve. Thanks for the tutorial on how to make them. I'm going to make a couple out of some broken Senkos that I have been holding onto for ned rig material. Ill try them out when the bite gets tough. This seems like a small mouth smasher.
I'm making some tonight! I've had bluegill on beds that won't eat anything! We'll see!!! ...and I do have some of my old rubber skirts... that could be cool!
Genius. Now I have something to use those single strands of skirt material I have from tying jigs. Try them on a couple night tournaments I have with my brother this summer. Just when the wife thought I tied enough jigs 😂😂😂
I saw these when they first landed in the US and immediately thought smallmouth fishing. I’m in TX and knew it was smashing smallies, but wrote it off. Boy do I feel dumb after watching this, prob start sticking skirt material in everything now…😂 Great video!
Nice video and some very nice tips. Gotta try it! Thanks for sharing Steve! Continue doing what you do my friend. As always, #SteveRogersOutdoors rocks!!!
This is a great idea. I think the worm body looks better than a square/cube! Definitely more like an insect. For finness recently I found some wobble head need rigs, 1/16oz. I've been putting Zmans ned tube, or whatever the smaller tubes are. It's been working great. It has great action with wobble style head. Regular TRD looks good on it to. The movement in water is all action it needs. There's a newer small lake I recently got act to. Fairly clear with ton of grass. I had a bass that wouldn't touch anything. I through wacky, Neko, multiple different soft plastic profiles. He wouldn't touch anything. Then that little tube on wobble head. He couldn't resist. Are that pretty quickly
@@SteveRogersOutdoors I'm definitely liking them. What I have is made by Flatlands- (swing head neds) I only have 1/16 oz but I plan ont grabbing couple different weights on my next TW order. I already have some old torn up sencos & shaky head worms cut up to make your dice replicas out of. Try them this week
@@SteveRogersOutdoors something else I've been doing sense last summer is. Putting #2 hyper wire slip rings on my texas rig hooks. Gives baits a lot more movement if you want it. I know they make hooks with welded rings already & I have some. But for cost I just use split rings most of time because I can put them on any hook style or size I want
@@SteveRogersOutdoors I've been very successful with them definitely worth a try. Like you mention all the time. It's just a little bit different looking. Sometimes that's all it takes for extra bites
This reminds me a lot of the Geecrack Imo Kemushi stick worm. It's a fatter worm with lots of tendrils. I've never used one, but I've seen other anglers with them. I like your idea better though. It's something I'm going to try!
@@Surfer-727 I think, though, that the tendrils are the main idea here. That smaller package might just be the enticing nugget those fish are after. I really don't know if square or round matter all that much. But hey, you never know with bass. The shape might be the exact thing they are keying on, lol!
I love this idea. Just curious and thinking of trying it not only for Bluehill, but wonder if you did a micro profile like this how trout would react ? Love this idea and tip !
Based on what I have seen with it, just about everything will eat it. It sure looks like a little insect falling through the water column. It was very fun to fish. Thanks for watching!
Finally....a good use for all the half Senkos I have in the boat from all the wacky rig fishing I do. And I love using a drop shot, so maybe this is something the fish aren't use to seeing....yet. Ssshhhh
I’m curious to know how the old original flat rubber skirt material would perform. Like the old H&H spinnerbaits had on them. Also Mylar would be a good test. You have living rubber also like the old Arkie jigs. I’d be willing to bet the silicone rubber like the original dice lure is the best for that shimmy. If you happen to test any of those out I’d sure like your response. That old thin flat rubber (H&H style) would probably melt after a while being in contact with plastisol.
I definitely agree that the rubber strands are probably quite impressive. Believe it or not I couldn’t find any around my tackle stash. I will have to do a follow up one.
I'm going to have to try the mylar.i am leary about the silicone skirt material cause the bluegills here in NJ will pluck them strands or maybe I might try a mix of both or see how marabou will work
@@gregchilders7643 I thought about marabou but I don’t think it would do much. Thought about flat tensile (Xmas tree) but it probably wouldn’t shimmy either without the elasticity.
As I had a bag of yellow skirts over a hundred I made some. does not get the same vibration but I have limited time on the water with that style skirt.
You just killed the dice! I’m going to try this with VMC crossover rings and for that matter I’ll probably dress out some flat nosed minnows as well. 👍🏼
If you think that silicone skirt works, try some old rubber spinner bait skirting. Been catching every small bass and biggest perch in the pond or river for years
Steve, Rigged a few of these baits up and tried them last trip out. I had a few hits but seemed like they(fish) were hanging onto the skirted material unless they were small ones. After cutting strand in half & threading it thru the worm do you trim down the strand and more? I cut mine back but still going to try it a few more times. Stay Safe & God Bless!!!
Each side it hangs off about a half inch I would say. I let them really take it before setting the hook. Could be some little ones hitting it too. I couldn’t keep the rock bass off of it. Lol.
@@SteveRogersOutdoors Thanks for getting back. I thought it was because my nephew was catching small ones on a different bait. Will try the half inch!!!
Yeap I've seen those dice baits but I haven't tried them. I didn't know they were that exspensive per bait. I thought I was a pck of them for that price!
@@SteveRogersOutdoors I still think using the worm body looks much better. Could also do it with skinny trick worm for even smaller body. I have some worms & old skirt material set aside to make some. Just need a needle with big eye like you mentioned.
@@SteveRogersOutdoors What I did was apply this to my favorite Ned rig, a Zman Big TRD on a VMC Rugby jig head Texas style. I didn't have a big eye craft needle, but a sharply bent thin paperclip worked really well, penetrating tougher Elaztech with ease. Instead applying of single skirt strands, I dragged a folded strand and the cut the loop for a double whisker look. Then repeated orthogonally every cm or so from hook bend to tail. The under water action looks tantalizing with the bouyant Elaztech tail sticking up and the whisker legs undulating. Fish have a sensory lateral line that can detect subtle water vibrations and the whisker legs make it look alive visually. Unfortunately, they half drained my favorite lake for maintenance so I can't report caught fish yet.
