Hope you enjoyed the video? 2 questions? what is your opinion on stopping to hand out sweeties to the local children? and the second. Do you have any recovery stories as bad as mine🫣😂
I really liked that you did not present your own opinion in the video. It would have felt like you were lecturing the viewers. We also got stuck in a river on our first trip to Namibia, we were too inexperienced. Water was inside the cabin, our feet were wet. Had to wait all night for help, but motor was still starting fine (Hilux).
Hi Nick, Great to see you on the road again. I personally don't hand out sweets as it teaches the kids a form of begging. Do both differentials on your vehicle lock? Would that have helped? On your route along the Kunene, did you encounter many himba villages that you could stop and visit, outside of the excursions sponsored by a lodges?
Hi Nick, good topic to talk about sweets to the children. We normally don’t do that, because it drives bagging behavior, is unhealthy to the kids and leads to littering the packaging around. But sometimes you receive some help or kindness where you should definitely think about giving. But it could be also paper, pencils or simple toys. In addition to take something like flour, beans etc. with you to share with communities on the way is a good habit.
You inspire me to step out of my comfort zone and embrace the great outdoors, we have booked our first camping trip EVER!! thanks to you Sir, we go back home to zim in dec camping with our 3 toddlers!
Your videos were the reason I visted Namibia. Returned just 3 days ago from a short trip. I will 100% repeat the trip next year and go a bit more off the tar roads.
Great to see you again Nick! We were in NAM earlier this year and found many of your tips and suggestions very helpful. Namibia is absolutely breathtaking! Sterkte makker!
Dankie Adriaan. Ek het gesien op facebook julle was hier. Bly julle het dit geniet en die videos het gehelp. Ja stadig maar seker is ek terug. As alles goed gaan behoort ek begin 2025 in Zimbabwe te wees en van daar voortgaan met die trip. Thanks for the support buddy💪
Hi Nick, nice videos, lots of inspirations. Like your stile, personal views and opinions. Had a special experience as well on the way from Ruacana to Epupa. Side shaft of the rear axle broken a few km behind the Kunene River Lodge climbing up a hill. Luckily could reach the lodge, took me 9 days to fix it. Mechanic came from Opuwo, took the whole rear axle out, fixed it in the workshop in Opuwo and brought it back 😞 not the cheapest experience. So, I think I can follow your mentaly health after stuff like this. But you are right, when you fall, stand up again and go ahead! Wish you good luck and maybe some day we meet on the road or in the bush. Don´t stop living your life in the way you love it.
Welkom terug, Nick! I hope the Toyota is going to behave this time around. During the Border War, I never had the opportunity to go to Namibia, due to my limited mobility. I was on the Moz border then. My daughter did missionary work between Opuwo and Ruacana, also at a place called Omaheke. Thanks for giving me some perspective. Agter die oor.
You must be getting a tad more confidence with Frank now after getting some distance now. Those first days are the worst, every different sound 😅👍👍. Well done Nick, love your content 🎉. Don’t dwell on that crossing, hopefully you’ll be doing a lot more 😂😂
When I went there recently I encountered an outreach group (Afrikaans youngsters who played soccer and preached against sweets) who tried to remind the locals that dentists are rare in these parts. Kids who eat sweets and don't/can't brush often will lose teeth... painfully. It made sense to me. Also, I had a puncture coming into Epupa, but I had crap tyres so I can only blame myself.
👍Except to say U reminded me of the Opuwo - Okanguati- Epupa bitumen tender. I was so glad to finally see the tender advertised by Roads Authority in July with 5 September as closing date and successful contractor anticipated to be on site before end of October or early November. 1st phase is 75km to be tarred then last phase after 1st one.
You are always my contact for road building in Namibia😂 great to hear that. One day you should tell me if there is any plans to build the Okahandja, Hochfeld, Okandjatu road...
@@NickfrNamibia Oh yes am very update in that sector. Okahandja - Hochfeld - Okondjatu was supposed to kick off in June thru Emergency procurement without advertising of the tender. I strongly believe it will be launched before election date. I will update you as soon as my inside source tells me the commencement date.
Definitely will be... I should have taken a video off the local doing it with a 4x2 sedan vehicle. Obviously not good for their vehicle but they dont seem to care. Also watch out for the rainy season with the rivers coming down.
@NickfrNamibia AWESOME 👌 I've got myself a set to but I haven't put them on yet still a little bit of live on my tyres. How's the tyres for you this far Nick?
Excellent! I have had them on for 19k and they still look new. Obviously done quite a bit with them including Khaudum, Epupa and their final test will be the Marienfluss.
On the sweets... When we were in Lesotho we were told the tribesman asked not to give sweets, reason being that the people don't have access to a dentist. Therefore rather clothes or educational material (books, pens, balls etc.).
I was told the exact same thing for the same reasons by the local guide that I did the village tour with...also the kids so close to the road always bothers me...
I was going to comment that I really appreciate this effort of getting out of the car to place the camera to capture the driving scenes (03:50 lol). But aren't you worried about exposing yourself to wildlife with all the walking?
You asking me...did you not see the little boy running around there😅😂 the location of dangerous animals in Namibia are fairly restricted to certain areas that we all know. In those areas I am more careful that is if I am allowed to get out
@@afreakan Which town is this? I need to come and film that leopard. Bots is a lot worse than Namibia when it comes to wild animals. One time I camped in CKGR and a leopard randomly walked into my campsite in daylight
@@NickfrNamibia Saw this late sorry! Francistown, in the north east, but the town is not very eventful in terms of wildlife. Just beware of the painted dogs, probably the most dangerous to encounter alone (besides lions)

Hey Nick. I grew up in Sierra Leone and always found the kids in the villages appreciated sweets but was more inclined to hand out pens and pencils.

Good informative video, Planning the same route in 2 weeks. When was this video recorded as we have heard mixed reviews on road conditions?
The road is good. Only in the rainy season when the rivers come down do you need to worry. Probably 3-4months ago...
I was at that exact camp not too long ago! Awesome place when the river is flowing high, only bad thing is the high humidity.
Yip, especially if you are not used to it, like me😁 the swimming pool helps...
Good video
Lekker, Nick! I was good to meet you at Omarunga Camp. Ry veilig.

Nice to see my nooks and crannies again, thanks, what is your tire pressure on the gravel stretches?

I have not been to Namibia yet, but won't you say that one of the attractions of Namibia is the endless gravelroads going through empy landscapes?
