    I'm a Namibian living in RSA for more than 50 years, and I have driven back almost every year. Seeing this makes me long to go back - I missed going last year. And after all those trips I especially appreciate joining you on yours and seeing all those familiar stops. And I AM GOING BACK!

      glad you enjoyed the video Jonathan🙂 I make videos to provide people with information to go there themselves, but its always extra special when my videos allow people to reminisce about the places they've already been. Hope you get to drive to Namibia soon.

    This feels so familiar. I am from Botswana. I have driven from Gaborone to Cape Town (approx 1400kms) in 2019 my partner and I drove from Gaborone to Swakopmond, another 1400kms (where I proposed and she said yes). I can relate and like you said the difference is there's less towns along the road driving in Namibia as compared to in SA. We're going back to Swakopmund this December. Amazing coast.

    I’ve done this trip quite a few times and love Namibia. Looks like a less red version of the Australian outback. The roads are excellent for a huge country and a relatively small population. What was truly impressive were the gravel roads constantly maintained by graders which towed their living quarters behind them. Looks like a few new gas stations since I last traveled. 👍🏻

    • @NickfrNamibia
      @NickfrNamibia  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      we are fortunate that our government still prioritises the roads, compared to our neighbours in the region. And yes, fuel stations have been poping up like crazy the last decade

    From a brit in Uk, lekker menheir, baai danke !
    I did Windhoek to Etosha back in the 80's, in a bakkie,
    graded dirt road all the way, Outjo overnight, then Otjiwarongo, 140 klicks, lots of animals to watch and
    avoid, it hadn't rained up there for eight years !!!
    You bought back some wonderful memories, danke 🤗

    I didn't actually need instructions - I'm quite familiar with this route and it's an extremely easy drive. Actually, it's too easy and that's the danger as people get complacent. Bring a friend to swap driving duties if you can. Besides speeding drivers, tire damage is probably your biggest threat on Namibian roads. If your tires are not in excellent condition, replace them before you go. Bring a spare, more than one if you can.
    A word of caution if you're visiting for the first time - Namibia is highly addictive!

    • @NickfrNamibia
      @NickfrNamibia  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      that's what I always tell people, also on the Namibian gravel roads. It is too easy and end up getting yourself into trouble

    My first and last time driving that road was in March 1991 to and from its independence day and Ziggy Marley and the Wailers performance. I like the country and it's people. Good memories

    Never been outside of SOuth Africa
    But it is beatiful to see , especially seeing you go from humid and green Cape Town , to dry and very hot Namibia

      South Africa/Namibia border. South African side an absolute nightmare. Namibian side a total delight. The officers were happy, helpful and ever so welcoming. Mozambique border a total pain and a disgrace.
