- Pennhurst Asylum, originally known as Pennhurst State School & Hospital was founded in 1908, five years after its construction began. It remained in operation until ultimately closing its doors forever in 1987 after years of allegations of patient mistreatment. In modern times, Pennhurst Asylum has become notoriously famous for its features on such well-known TV shows as Ghost Hunters and Ghost Adventures.

What hits home most about this place is that I’m epileptic and have adhd. Luckily I was born in the 90’s but it just flat out hurts to know you used to get shoved in these places for things that you couldn’t help having.

My mother also has epilepsy and i couldnt imagine her being locked up in a place like this for something thats quite common nowadays. Makes me angry and think about all the people who were locked up just for Epilepsy….can you imagine. Its sickening

Just an idea josh - I'd be real interested to see it tested.
The way the energy seemed to be sucked from the music box, then immediately translated into someone in the group being touched on the shoulder.
I thought that was a really good example of how spirits use energy from certain objects.
What if you purposefully brought a large source of battery power along with you to the next place. Purely for spirits to use as their own energy source. It could be really beneficial for gathering evidence, especially since a lot of places you visit have had the power cut off. A fully charged car battery could work.
I think It would be interesting to see if it provokes any more activity than usual by providing them with a larger energy source.
It would be interesting to see if it stops your other devices from being drained so frequently too.

We do have EMF generators and sometimes use plasma balls and Jacob's latter's to energize the atmosphere. We are never sure if it is going to work but we theorize that it does. Hopefully someday we will have specialized enough equipment to quantify and measure these events. Great input and thank you!

I am a Mum of two daughters both that have Autism one low functioning and the one high functioning but with severe depression,ADHD, thank God we have come a long way . Honestly, it's all about the time during which this was going on. Mental illness(and malfunction) were stigmatized and demonized. If you were "abnormal" in ANY way, they didn't know how to handle it, or didn't want to. Not excusing it, but it was a product of the time and the mindsets of those times. I would be in an asylum right now if we were living back then, and yes it was horrible, yes it shouldn't have happened, but it's what it was at the time. I have ADHD and autism, plus other things, and I would hate this too, I do hate that it happened even back then
That place has only been closed for 35 years i my self would have been put in to Canada versions of penhurst my self yes the medical fields come along way in 35 years but sadly ppl like me and your children still are abused but the system so I hope your the type before you send your children off to look in to closely the programs they may attend

The person with josh who was medium was really asking such good questions and was absolutely polite with every spirit.
I mean everytime i see people only asking to spirits that " who are u ? What is your name ? Do u not like us here ? Do u want us gone ? " It's always same questions
I want them to ask different and good questions that can really uncover something exciting

As I told Colin I have been waiting on this collab since you stated the Beyond the Dark series!! I stated watching both of you around the same time in 2019 and have been waiting years for this!
That scream was incredible! 🔥. In my theory i think it captured the voices from the other side. Like you know how they say that these spirits or ghost goes through the same repetitive things that they experienced in their life after they die cause their souls aren't happy or satisfied with things when they were alive. It's so crazy to think that could probably be a scream of a person who was angry and miserably sick. I would freak out and run out of there if i heard that live. The fact they are taking so much energy from all of your devices is probably why you were getting so much responses and also maybe the energy between all of you were great.
That place is sick and is something straight of a horror film. Keep up the great content my dude.

Wow! I like this one. Good sesh especially when you guys were talking to Skippy. When Josh was in the middle of the Tunnel there was an Orb that drifted up in front of Josh. What I understand is if a person dies tragically they are stuck between realms and just go back and forth trying to figure out how to get out. Just keep making sure you tell the spirits to not follow you.

@Jacqueline Nash 😊 Have you ever heard of Twin Paranormal now they're the real deal!!! Also they Are Very Respectful, Honest To The Core, and they also help Stuck Spirits Move On. I've found them out when they collaborated with Paranormal Files, Colin quite a few times. They just put out another new video today (every Sunday). Check-out their older videos first and work your way up. Recently they asked "If There Was Something That They Could Change, What Would It Be?" and the majority asked for them to go back to their old ways and the last 3 Episodes they did not disappoint. They have also captured evidence of Spirits with the Still Cameras without them even knowing it and people in the comments were pointing it out, pretty cool 😎
I didn't get a chance to see the new one today, but I'll save that for the morning as I get up at 3 to 4am and I come outside in my Screenhouse where it's really dark and I just have a little light source coming from my Kitchen for the darker the better I can see on my Tablet, plus I love to creep myself out LOL 👍🏼🥰😱😂🤪👻👻👻

Unfortunately, a number of my friends are too scared to dabble in ghost hunting. If you ever get to SE MI, I would be honored to tag along with you. We have some spooky, haunted places near my house. In fact my house itself is haunted. That’s a story for another time! You are the best. My bday is coming up and I plan on getting some of your merchandise. You should sell some pins as lots of people collect them and after they get your pins, they’ll want to get your other merchandise. Me, I want both!
Man......that whole part with Skippy gave me major chills. I get the sense that Skippy is the type of spirit with major attitude and hella malicious sass. It's so wild to see how spirits carry over their living characteristics into the spirit realm. I gasped when Skippy clearly said 'I don't care' when the team was insulting him. Then when he kept saying 'you,' 'you' when Colin approached.
I hope y'all sage or use Palo Santo or Florida Water at the end of your investigations, especially Seth. Gotta protect your energy!

Those were aome amazing responses. When Seth set the recorder the 1st time (around the 25m mark, there was a lot of visual distortion down the hall which could be camera focal issues. And I think 2 doors away from Seth on the right, just before he walked back to the group it really looked like a shadow peaked out for 1 sec).

There are some creepy old asylums in Michigan you should check out (other than Eloise). Traverse city, Northville, Michigan State Sanitarium(Howell), and Kalamazoo. Love your videos not only for the history but the respect you have for the places you go as well.
Some of those EVP’s you captured are terrifying. Especially the one where the spirit is blatantly screaming into the mic. I had to turn down the volume on my iPhone. Lmao

Cool to see something local on here. I used to explore these buildings back in the late 90's before they turned some of the area into an attraction. We would get chased by security but it was easy to get away because they wouldn't dare go into the buildings. Experienced some really creepy stuff here. No doubt it's haunted as hell. Good times..

Pennhurst is a really scary place! Not even 10 seconds into the investigation that light turned off, the devices were going crazy, noises here and there! And that was the best estes method I've seen so far! Remember how u were alone in skippys tunnel in the previous video?!
I also believe a lot of paranormal and physic mediums help these spirits leave. Who knows how many children passed away here. But we can only try and help them leave to a better place beyond us. You all are doing a great thing for these spirits so I thank you all for that! Amazing video as always Josh and keep up the great work!

Such human suffering, OMG, & so eerie! Tell u what, the EVPs were unsettling for sure; but the one in particular “Ur going to die!” was undeniable and clear. Unless it’s caused by a digital imprint from a prior recording. Personally, though, I have no use for ‘mediums’ - where do they get their mediumship certification? But it was an engaging, fun video. You guys should give more time for answers in between questions on the EVPs that way if you’re getting long responses you’ll be able to hear them better and maybe getting a foam piece for the mic so it isn’t as static. This is all stuff that I did when my friends and I would go investigating
I know im a bit late, but they give about 10 seconds in between each question, but when listening back, the device only plays what it hears, so if it doesnt pick up any kind of answer, it'll just play the questions one after another without a pause

For somebody who calls himself Medium and claims to be able to hear and see spirits, Scott didn't see nor hear any spirit that talked to you guys over the devices you had. Bringing a self-proclaimed Medium to Pennhurst just reminded me of one of my favorite horror movies "Grave Encounters" XD

Definitely agree. If they are getting so much activity on just their devices how come he didn’t feel or see anything. That’s just doesn’t make sense. Even people who are not psychic or meduim sometimes feel or see more than he does so I don’t believe him🤔
Comeplety agree. Another self proclaimed medium being just as surprised and confused as the investigators while still acting like he supposably knows better.
I agree with Soliferi’s point that sometimes spirits don’t want to interact with mediums. Being a medium myself I have experienced this with a spirit at my place of work. It’s a female energy that gave me her name but hides from me when I’m in the office. Most haunted places I hear, sense/feel them and they give me images. I come with respect, an open mind and understanding. I don’t expect communication, ask if they want to share and am not forceful of convinced of my own greatness just because I have a strong connection to the spirit world. Being humble and respectful is key. You wouldn’t walk up to an embodied stranger and demand they talk to you, not any different for disembodied spirits you don’t know. Was just at Pennhurst and got more communication than this guy without being in the more haunted areas, just the regular history tour. I think they don’t like his energy. I do find it odd he didn’t seem to pick up on much, not even the residual energy of the place.

Regardless of rather it’s true or not I’ve often heard that any illness or ailments are gone in the afterlife. That a person regains everything. So in other words I think they understand. Just what I’ve noticed many mediums say. Even biblically speaking after death a person is eventually fully restored. There are a few scriptures about it. 💯
Even though they're mentally challenged, they can still understand. They may not be able to respond the way we would, but they understand (my mom's a nurse at an adult daycare -- elderly, mentally disabled, etc etc)

Are spirits hard of hearing for some reason? I ask because hunters seem to always yell at them.
What gets me is they fought with the supreme court to close these types of places down, yet not far up a few roads from these asylums are new - modern - continuing mental institutions, destroying more lives just in modern ways. It's awfully sad to say the least and the passed on are still trying to find there place in the world and clearly show it to all the viewers, way to go josh you do such an awesome job getting us such hair raising content.
Now we have mass incarceration taking the mantle of what these institutions did in the 20th century. The US provides no mental (or physical) health care to its citizens, then arrest and imprison the poor and mentally unwell in mostly for-profit private prisons. It’s the same basic situation, only bigger and worse.
