That was helpful for an old lady whose sprinkler/lawn service has allowed her lawn to turn brown in many places. I will do it myself. That's what we do, right? Now, to work!
Gosh, this makes more sense than the brand video! Having you show which side is left was critical (basically being behind the sprinkler). The user has to know that before they can begin in order to get that fixed side pointing correctly! That is what messed me up. Thank you for that help. Now, to your next video on installing the nozzle - I want distance, but have low pressure - hope you cover that there.
Thanks! Super happy to hear this helped! Low pressure is always struggle and usually should be dealt with when designing sprinkler systems. A couple things to try if you are able to without adverse effects: Lower flow nozzle such as .75 nozzle. You may just need to install an additional area to cover an area. Another drastic option would be converting all the heads over to pop up heads and using the MP Rotator nozzles to be able to reach long distances still. Hope this helps in some way! Let us know what you end up doing or what ends up helping.
Just purchased a dozen of these with some hose end spikes and 3/4" to 1/2" reducers and a couple dual valve timers so I can get good coverage for our new house. The company laying the sod uses this setup for the unsold homes. I took a peak at their set up and thought, well their yards are looking good, so I am trying to mirror that. I think once I can get the starting point nailed down, this whole thing will be a lot less intimidating. I put two down on the side of the yard to start and just run them at 360 degrees for now since that is an easy setting to do. What I like about this sprinkler is it still has a good spray when it's in a series. I tried some cheaper impact sprinklers and the water pressure drop was enough that neither one would continue to spin. I cannot wait to get the timers set up and I can stop thinking about all the watering I have to do and the 5000s will help get the proper coverage on the yard.
Thanks. I bought a new one and installed it which I've done before. I tried to get the left spray setting exactly where I wanted it but it was slighty off and didnt want to break the pipe. I turned on the system and got the right stop where I wanted it using the screwdriver and cemented in my mind, counter clockwise less travel. Anyways not happy with the left setting so while running I turned the turet farther right then I wanted and let it go and the left spray now went to where I wanted it, then used the screwdriver again to reduce the right arc distance and it was perfecto. Thanks
Thanks. I appreciate that you took the time to explain in more detail. Seems most of the sprinkler videos breeze through an explanation in less than two minutes and they're not very clear.
Good explanation! Much better than the factory directions. If you make more films, rather than saying "turning left or right' please refer to the rotation as clockwise or counterclockwise and your missive will be even more clear!
Great video! Only thing is I am not sure about the nozzle. I installed two of these yesterday and didn't screw down the screw before turning them on. I was still able to get a mist and lesser, more spread out stream by screwing down the screw later.
Glad you asked here. Sounds like you may have a FC head / full circle head vs PC-Part circle. It only does 360 and does a continuous spinning around at a slow consistent rate. Hope this answers your question.
Thank you for this tutorial. Very informative. I can now adjust the arc. The question I have now is how do I adjust the left starting point? This is a great description of a new sprinkler head mechanics, BUT do you have a video how to adjust the left edge when the sprinkler has already been installed in the ground for years and the left is about 90 degrees farther left and watering the street? Do you do move the entire thing, grabbing the very top or the middle, when the water is running or not? Yes, just dig it up and put a thread cap on the part that goes into head and bury, 3/4” fitting. Might want to mark where it is if going to bury in dirt.
I think you are saying how to change the starting position aka fixed side of the sprinkler head. If so, great question! You should be able to push down on the top of the head while its operating with your palm and twist it back left a little to change the left/fixed position. If you can't get that to work for you, you can unscrew the top out of the body pull it up and then reinstall it with the left point where you need the fixed side to be (just make sure it is off and the head is rotated all the way to the left before doing. @@thesprinklerchannel So how does one shut of water entirely, or can one only "interfere" with the stream by screwing screw further downward to impede flow?
The Rain Bird 5000 has a minimum rotate of 40 degrees. I am wondering if another solution might be best for your situation. There will be a video coming out in the near future related to park strips and the special nozzles that are intended to water narrow strips of grass such as park strips. Feel free to share more info of your current design on here so perhaps we can get a better idea of what your current design looks like
The minimum rotation for this type of rotor head is 40 degrees. If you are needing coverage for a park strip (narrow strip of grass). A pop-up head with a park strip nozzle is probably going to be what you need. I will put this on the list of videos to make.
Ok so in my case, my sprinkler is all of a sudden spraying out on to the driveway(left fixed position). What would I have to do to bring it over rightwards?
@@thesprinklerchannel I understood both videos on how to adjust it more towards the Left. My fixed left is somehow spraying too much to the left on to the driveway/street. I need to re-adjust the left stop more towards the right. Thanks! 😊
Hi B, Like Brandon stated, the only way to stop the flow entirely with the Hunter PGP is to remove the head and install a cap. It should be a 3/4" threaded cap. You may want to mark the are so you can find it again if you want to reinstall it at a later date. Another option is to replace it with a Rain Bird 5000 Plus that has the capability of turning off the sprinkler head. Hope this helps!
How do you adjust the left line? I’m gathering you can’t once it’s in the ground! You can’t just turn the whole body because then you are loosening the head from the threads!
@@thesprinklerchannel Yes, helpful. Thanks! Now I have to re-determine what model head this is (it's already buried in the ground), and try to make sure that forcing the rubber cap further to the left won't break it.
Pretty good explanation. Thanks for the vid. I agree with @tomnekuda about the use of counter/clockwise vs. right and left. Also you kept referring to the “radius” when I think you mean “swing” or “spread”. Since a “radius” is half the distance across a circle, the word is better suited to how far you want the water to travel from the head.
I have a Rainbird 5000 Plus (with the green top) that spins 360 degrees. It needs to be 180. When I try to find the left stopping point, it just spins without clicking, and with very little resistance. When I turn it to the right, there is resistance and it clicks. Either way, there is no stopping point. I can't find any information about it spinning 360 degrees. Help! My sprinkler sprays half in my yard, and half into the street.
Hi Jaime, I’m not sure the exact size, if you have a sprinkler supply store they should know, otherwise I’d take one from another head with me to a big box store to match. Sorry I don’t know the answer but at the next opportunity, I’ll find out.
What happens if by hand you forced it beyond the stop? Does it jump cam? Broken? Does nothing? Out of sync...? If so can it be reset? Thanks Reason I asked, before seeing this I had jacked this sprinkler top to n fro trying to set boundaries. Now it's been a few days guess I figured no harm done really. I set the boundries for it n works fine.
When deflecting the distance of the water on how far it sprays, do I turn it to the right like you are doing on your video? This will not increase the water distance correct? Turning to the left will increase water distance correct?
Yes, clockwise will deflect the water as the screw goes down. Counterclockwise to deflect less until not touching water stream. Stop as soon as it is no longer deflecting / don’t turn it counterclockwise too far or else nozzle will not stay in.

I don’t want to rotate my sprinkler because I try to water edge of rode very narrow.can u make video for no rotate at all?

Thanks! 😊
Is there a way to turn the head completely off? I have an area getting way too wet, but dont want to shut the entire zone off.
Cap that head connection. Basically you unscrew that head and screw on a cap. They are pretty cheap from Lowe’s or Home Depot.
Well that is what the average Joe who has never done this needs!!!!!
How do you adjust the left line? I’m gathering you can’t once it’s in the ground! You can’t just turn the whole body because then you are loosening the head from the threads!
Check out this one and let me know if this answers your question. Rain Bird 5000 - 1 Last IMPORTANT thing!

@@thesprinklerchannel Yes, helpful. Thanks! Now I have to re-determine what model head this is (it's already buried in the ground), and try to make sure that forcing the rubber cap further to the left won't break it.
Very useful.
Pretty good explanation. Thanks for the vid. I agree with @tomnekuda about the use of counter/clockwise vs. right and left. Also you kept referring to the “radius” when I think you mean “swing” or “spread”. Since a “radius” is half the distance across a circle, the word is better suited to how far you want the water to travel from the head.
excellent video. You made what was confusing, understandable.
how to adjust the hunter pgp sprinkler head when it is fixed too far to the right?
Remove from body and re-install after turning to right set.
You may have a full circle fc head there (only does 360. Replace with part circle pc head then adjust.
Could u give me the size of the screw that holds the nozzle i lost one
Hi Jaime, I’m not sure the exact size, if you have a sprinkler supply store they should know, otherwise I’d take one from another head with me to a big box store to match. Sorry I don’t know the answer but at the next opportunity, I’ll find out.
@@thesprinklerchannel ok thanks
What happens if by hand you forced it beyond the stop? Does it jump cam? Broken? Does nothing? Out of sync...? If so can it be reset? Thanks
Reason I asked, before seeing this I had jacked this sprinkler top to n fro trying to set boundaries. Now it's been a few days guess I figured no harm done really. I set the boundries for it n works fine.
It very well could have broken internal components if it is not rotating like it should.
Thank you for the wonderful video.
