    I am surprised how many rainbird videos I had to watch before getting to one that actually showed how to adjust the left stop. Thanks.

    Not only did this video clear up how to adjust the left stop compared to other videos and other "documentation" online, it cleared up that adjusting the right stop was a matter of trial and error by both twisting the top back to the left stop and back to see where the new right stop is after turning the right stop adjustment screw!

    I was just installing these in my yard and was scratching my head over this problem! Thanks, exactly what I needed to know. I thought that maybe I was forced to loosen the entire thing to get it pointing where I needed, but doing that probably increases likeliness to leak at the base under the dirt. Glad I searched around and came across this.

    Thank you so much what I don't understand is why no one else including Rainbird can explain how to do this the right way ? I felt like an idiot until I watch your very informative video, and after watching you I finally figured it out. I am in Kennewick Washington and I appreciate your help !! I liked and subscribed to your channel because of it, I can't tell you how happy I am to get this fixed. Had to turn my water off for 3 days because it was going over my fence into my neighbors yard and tearing up my shed, thanks to you I was able to adjust the arc correctly.

    I went through many videos and most of them were too mechanical and didn't solve the issue of adjusting the Rain Bird 5000. After this one it seems so easy and results were perfect to the desired sprinkle arc and distance. Thanks

    I don't know about the others but the instructions for the 5000's state that you can disassemble as you show, or just ratchet/swing it all the way to the left stop, then keep pushing to spin it internally to where you want it. I've done it on mine and it is very easy.

      Grass Daddy i’m having the same problem you are. I unscrewed the cap and insured that the body is not moving by digging the grass and dirt out. I turned the turret clockwise like you did. But my problem is I lose the left stop when I screw the cap back on and is misaligned. I think maybe I should do like you said in the video make sure I turn the turret to the right and then to the left and ensure that I am at my in left stop.

    • @jamespt2005
      @jamespt2005 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I followed your directions and that was exactly the problem. I did not turn the head all the way to the right and then back to the left prior to tightening down the cap. I think it’s important to note that you can fine-tune the position with the notches or the teeth that’s inside of the base.

  • @davezak5870
    @davezak5870 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    The reason the other videos aren't showing it this way is because this isn't the way it's designed to be done. You don't need to unscrew the top. Here's the way I remember how the stops work. It's easier to do this while they are running because the part that rotates will be up and that is the part that you grab and twist to move the stops. If you lightly twist the rotating part each direction you can feel where both the left and right stops are. Now if you rotate it to the left stop and then apply force you will overpower the stop and move it further to the left. However, you will also move the right stop to the left the same amount. Likewise, if you move to the right stop and overpower it and move the right stop further right, the left stop will also move the same amount right. In other words, the size of the arc remains unchanged, you are only shifting the entire arc left or right by overpowering the stops. That's the easy way to remember how the stops work. The reason why they talk about setting the left stop is because when you use the set screw to adjust the size of the arc, it only shifts the right stop to change the size. So, if you have the left stop set correctly, you adjust the screw to increase or decrease the size of the arc until the right stop is correct. If the size of the arc is OK, just shift the entire arc left or right by overpowering the appropriate stop.

Would also be cool to calculate precipitation rate difference in the target area, assuming your watering time is constant. I could help with that if you'd like. The left stop can be adjusted without doing all that. Just turn it to the right until it clicks then return to the left and keep going as far as you need to. It has a slip clutch inside. No digging or unscrewing required.

      @@LowEtsRock It looks like Rainbird has notice all the left stop complaints (99 out of 100, the left stop is too far left). The 5000 is no longer listed on the Rainbird website; only the 5004. Good for new customers, and maybe good as a retrofit for the rest of us.

    I just rotate CCW (counter clock wise) to the stop. Then, I mark the top with a white marking pen and leave the rotor at the left stop. When I re install, I align the starting pointy to my desired left edge, then use my screw driver to set the right edge.

When i put the screw driver in and turned toward minus it INCREASED the anount it turned toward the right i actually had t use the plus screw to get it were i wanted. So ,do i have a defective head? Excellent. Watched 3 other videos and wasted over an hour before I figured either there must be something more or I'm a complete idiot. Sure enough, if you don't get the starting point set properly, namely the left stop, you can fight and fume for days and nothing will work properly no matter how careful you are. (not a bad life lesson either)

    • @jimpickering3099
      @jimpickering3099 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know. It's confusing. Let me give it a try. When you set the left edge and it's too far left, you have to unscrew the top part, then turn it to the right a little (so the left edge is where you want it), reinsert it into the body, then screw the top part back in. After you screw the top part back in, the left edge will still be where you set it (even if the sprinkler head moves while you're tightening it), because the "bottom of the top part" (sorry) engages with the gearing down below. Then to adjust the right side, be sure it's turned all the way left, then insert a small flathead into the hole with the plus and minus. Turn the screwdriver counterclockwise to decrease how far the right edge moves to the right (the width of where the water will go). You can set both left and right edges with the water off. That's the neat part. Clear as mud?
