The ATR72-600 is a perfect sized aircraft to operate at present on some of these longer routes with lower passenger loads. 2 Hours is fairly long sector for them, but if needed the could operate the further. Israir Airlines were using their ATR72-500 on a daily KIEV to Tel Aviv flight last Summer with a flight time of over 4 hours. ✈️

I really like the new cabin and livery of this ATR! Flew several times with TAROM on their tired but well served fleet - 737, A318, ATR. The ATR I flew on was old and had dense Recaro seats. Happy to see the airline improving and upgrading their aircraft and look forward to flying with them again in the future 🙂 Great report as usual!!
15:09 Hi.to answer your question there is a Romanian charter carrier named Animawings.They use their own plane(YR-AGA) as well as 1 Aegean plane as the company is actually owned by Aegean.They also use aegean callsigns like A25601(TFS-OTP(Currently they operate with YR-AGA & SX-DVT to destinations in turkey,spain,egypt,greece etc.

The Aegean A321 was not grounded there. It operated flights for its sister airline, Romanian airline Animawings (75% owned by a Romanian Tour-operator, 25% by Aegean). The last Airbus A320 seen while taxiing parallel to runway 8R, that red one does also operate for Animawings as YR-AGA and is the ex SX-DGI. At this moment, two other Aegean A320s operate flights along with YR-AGA for Animawings (SX-DVT & SX-DVY). How did you find Romania? Did you enjoy it?

Animawings is expanding rapidly at the moment and in order to keep up with the demand, the airline operates aircraft from its parent company, Aegean Airlines (that owns a 25% stake in Animawings)
Aegean plane was there flying on behalf of romanian charter carrier Animawings where Aegean has a 25% stake and has transferred a couple of its A320ceos to the carrier to be repainted in Animawings colours..When they don't have enough planes, Aegean does the job (for e.g. Animawings flew OTP-Zanzibar with Aegean's A321Neo)

Really interesting video as always, I would say in English when you enter the clouds from below you are entering the cloud base, the cloud ceiling is the top of the clouds. I think the reduced service is to save costs, if it were about preventing covid spreading why have any service at all, but you can't blame the airlines they are all losing money at the moment. I flew on a atr 72 to isle of man once in winter with aer arann and the de-icing was working overtime with chunks of ice falling off the leading edge. Indeed the engine power was noticibly higer and we even decended below the clouds early to get out of it. I think the Atr doesnt have an APU but it has a prop brake and so the engine can run without the prop spinning, this is only on one engine, but means the plane can operate without ground power.
Let me give you the definition os "cloud ceiling" in aviation: ceiling is a measurement of the height of the base of the lowest clouds (not to be confused with cloud base which has a specific definition) that cover more than half of the sky (more than 4 oktas) relative to the ground. About the "APU" of the ATR. Yeah, you are 100% correct :)
I do miss the AUA Dashes from the planespotter point of view. You asked about the in flight service downgrade. In my opinion I got used to we live in different era and that era started more time ago than just when the pandemic started. Airlines started reducing their inflight service like five or six years ago. I really miss hot meals included in the ticket price as it was something I used to get when I was flying as a kid. Unfortunately it's gone and I live with it it won't be back anymore. We have to pay for everything onboard. On the other side the airline tickets are much cheaper than anytime before. So when you pay 5EUR for ticket from Greece to Austrian you can't expect you get some hot meal etc. And in case the airline asks much money and doesn't give you inflight service according to the flight ticket price - just don't fly with them as they are propably overpriced and not worth for money. That's my opinion
They've been retired 2 weeks ago or so, so I didn't have time to miss them, but for sure I will. Luckily I flew several times on the Austrian Dash8 :) The point is that the "legacy airlines" didn't reduce the ticket prices (even more, sometimes they rose them) and they cut all services onboard. Then some people wonder why low-cost airlines are the biggest in Europe... For sure I wouldn't be flying with many airlines if I woudn't have this channel. 80% of airlines in Europe are not worth the money they charge :)
Covid hit the airlines hard, so I think, that they have to cut on service. Besides, some governments support airlines, during Covid, but others don't. I flew from Vienna to Bucharest, in 1983. At that time, Tarom was using British-made BAC-111 jets. They looked like a DC-9, with 5 seats across. In 1980-ties, I also flew Austrian Airlines, a few times. They were using DC-9s. Sincerely, Alex

Well honestly I am surprised reading your comment about Tarom, on May 9 2008 I flew from Bucharest to Iasi, a national flight on an ATR and even had a good hot meal even if the flight was only 50 min

I know, but that is something not relevant for the passengers. The only thing they see is a 120euro ticket for 800km on an ATR without any type of service and a cabin crew that disappeared during all the flight. have a nice weekend :)
@@OnBoardHD Animawings is that red plane. It's a Romanian airline owned by Crishtian tour and it only operates charter flights. They only have YR-AGA A320 and are using mainly Aegean aircrafts fully Eco . Aegean owns 45/100 from the company
Nice trip report! Tarom is in a difficult financial situation and they are under restructuring, cutting cost, staff, etc… I suppose this undergoing process, in addition to the COVID negative impact, is somehow reflected in their services… 🙁

I think most of the airlines just found a reason to reduce costs. For example the LH Group. They almost abolished the complimentary inflight service on all their short flights. LH and LX serve some water at least, on an OS flight you don’t get anything anymore. I think they’ll just loose more and more customers on that way🤷♂️
@@OnBoardHD Today Jet planes are close in fuel efficiency to turboprops, but have a higher speed and less noise and vibration (remember the expensive ANVS DASH 8 system). Indicatively, Austrian replaced the DASH regionals with E195. And I'm talking about midrange flights, and you're talking about short flights. ATR is a great aircraft, but it will soon be gone, how are gasoline cars being replaced by electric ones (or maybe hydrogen ones)?
ok so to give you some context: TAROM is allegedly the flag carrier of Romania, even though the past years have been tough. TAROM is very unprofitable at the moment and has been since 2006 when Romania experienced the low cost 'invasion', and TAROM couldn't keep up with the low fares these airlines were offering, unsurprisingly falling behind and losing a lot of marketshare. COVID was actually a life saver for them because the airline was forced to adopt a restructuring plan consisting of cutting off unneeded staff, planes and more. The carrier is expected to become profitable by 2025, which i believe is true seeing that TAROM is following the plan closely. TAROM offered free hot meals on all its flights before COVID, and maybe this is a strategy to cut on costs.
I have never flown on the Dash. The only commuter plane that I have flown on is the ATR. Great airplane!! I don’t think they are using the pandemic to reduce costs.
hola, perdona mi ignorancia pero no entiendo porque en un aeropuerto que tiene una sola pista se le da un numero muy alto incluso acompañado de una letra. Por ejemplo el de Santiago de Compostela, solo tiene una pista y según el video pone pista 17 ó pista 34L por ejemplo. Por qué pasa esto? Gracias
Gb Phil lo ha explicado perfectamente. La numeración de las pistas no es aleatoria. Ni mucho menos. Hacen referencia a la orientación de la pista respecto al Polo Norte Magnético de la Tierra. La letra R (right=derecha), L (left=izqueirda), C (center=central). El aeropuerto de Bucarest tiene 2 pistas parelelas.
A ver si este verano... Tenía un vuelo comprado con ellos. Me lo cancelaron y no me devolvieron nada. La verdad es que no tengo ninguna gana de volar con esa aerolínea...

I'd rather swim with sharks than fly 4hrs in a turboprop...Up to an hour is ok..For longer thin routes an E-175 is the plane to fly in on

So when you pay 5EUR for ticket from Greece to Austrian you can't expect you get some hot meal etc.
And in case the airline asks much money and doesn't give you inflight service according to the flight ticket price - just don't fly with them as they are propably overpriced and not worth for money.

They've been retired 2 weeks ago or so, so I didn't have time to miss them, but for sure I will. Luckily I flew several times on the Austrian Dash8 :)
The point is that the "legacy airlines" didn't reduce the ticket prices (even more, sometimes they rose them) and they cut all services onboard. Then some people wonder why low-cost airlines are the biggest in Europe...
For sure I wouldn't be flying with many airlines if I woudn't have this channel. 80% of airlines in Europe are not worth the money they charge :)

Covid hit the airlines hard, so I think, that they have to cut on service. Besides, some governments support airlines, during
Covid, but others don't.
I flew from Vienna to Bucharest, in 1983. At that time, Tarom was using British-made BAC-111 jets. They looked like
a DC-9, with 5 seats across. In 1980-ties, I also flew Austrian Airlines, a few times. They were using DC-9s. Sincerely,

That's not a problem of the passengers. What they see is that the ticket price stays the same or even went up... meanwhile, the service is getting worse and worse...

Yes that is correct, used pandemia to reduce cost, i flew the 9 of may 2008 from Bucharest to Iasi, they had a good hot meal service.
I flew tarom in 2019 from Sofia to Bucharest on that same plane but back 2 yrs ago

Well honestly I am surprised reading your comment about Tarom, on May 9 2008 I flew from Bucharest to Iasi, a national flight on an ATR and even had a good hot meal even if the flight was only 50 min

I know, but that is something not relevant for the passengers. The only thing they see is a 120euro ticket for 800km on an ATR without any type of service and a cabin crew that disappeared during all the flight.

@@OnBoardHD Animawings is that red plane. It's a Romanian airline owned by Crishtian tour and it only operates charter flights. They only have YR-AGA A320 and are using mainly Aegean aircrafts fully Eco . Aegean owns 45/100 from the company

Nice trip report! Tarom is in a difficult financial situation and they are under restructuring, cutting cost, staff, etc… I suppose this undergoing process, in addition to the COVID negative impact, is somehow reflected in their services… 🙁

I think most of the airlines just found a reason to reduce costs. For example the LH Group. They almost abolished the complimentary inflight service on all their short flights. LH and LX serve some water at least, on an OS flight you don’t get anything anymore.
I think they’ll just loose more and more customers on that way🤷♂️

@@OnBoardHD Today Jet planes are close in fuel efficiency to turboprops, but have a higher speed and less noise and vibration (remember the expensive ANVS DASH 8 system). Indicatively, Austrian replaced the DASH regionals with E195. And I'm talking about midrange flights, and you're talking about short flights. ATR is a great aircraft, but it will soon be gone, how are gasoline cars being replaced by electric ones (or maybe hydrogen ones)?

ok so to give you some context:
TAROM is allegedly the flag carrier of Romania, even though the past years have been tough. TAROM is very unprofitable at the moment and has been since 2006 when Romania experienced the low cost 'invasion', and TAROM couldn't keep up with the low fares these airlines were offering, unsurprisingly falling behind and losing a lot of marketshare.
COVID was actually a life saver for them because the airline was forced to adopt a restructuring plan consisting of cutting off unneeded staff, planes and more. The carrier is expected to become profitable by 2025, which i believe is true seeing that TAROM is following the plan closely.
TAROM offered free hot meals on all its flights before COVID, and maybe this is a strategy to cut on costs.

I have never flown on the Dash. The only commuter plane that I have flown on is the ATR. Great airplane!! I don’t think they are using the pandemic to reduce costs.
I think the ATR's will be the predominant turboprops in the next years. Many airlines in Europe are retiring the Dashe's.

hola, perdona mi ignorancia pero no entiendo porque en un aeropuerto que tiene una sola pista se le da un numero muy alto incluso acompañado de una letra. Por ejemplo el de Santiago de Compostela, solo tiene una pista y según el video pone pista 17 ó pista 34L por ejemplo. Por qué pasa esto? Gracias

La numeración de las pistas no es aleatoria. Ni mucho menos.
Hacen referencia a la orientación de la pista respecto al Polo Norte Magnético de la Tierra. La letra R (right=derecha), L (left=izqueirda), C (center=central).
El aeropuerto de Bucarest tiene 2 pistas parelelas.
