    I believe if Darren and I started a conversation together the sun might set and we'd just be getting to the project. I listened to this and realized 5 minutes past as many of you did. I finally recognized what one of the greatest differences in your videos is...the infectious level of energy. It creates enthusiasm and confidence and I can't wait to get outside and start my own troubleshooting efforts on our 30 year old MH. I tried watching a few other videos by other repair-videographers and I couldn't do it. That's when I realized it was the sparks coming out of you everywhere that makes the difference. I have no idea how you ever get to sleep at night and I gotta feeling that people near you have to take a vacation once in awhile because a normal person can't absorb that much energy.

    Thanks Darren, I had the exact same problem the night you released this video on patron. It was good to see I used your "follow the trail" process to discover the problem. Finding a replacement motor was the hardest part. Suburban was out of stock and none of the area dealerships had one. With nightly temps in the upper twenties I had to go for a generic replacement I could get in 2 days. Would like to hear how you deal with this type situation. You are my number one guide to trouble shooting! Thanks for all your work, Charles

    This may have helped me a bunch. Working on a suburban sf-42 with exact symptoms. T/S closes, audible click at the unit, blower does not start. Have not yet tested voltage. My initial assumption was a bad main board as customer said the unit was working a week and a half ago. However, I will complete a voltage test to confirm source of the issue. Thank you for these videos, huge help. 👍

    Nobody ever talks about the Electrode Ignitor. The amount/intensity of the sparks that you'll get has a lot to do with the function of the furnace. You can still get/hear a clicking noise that sounds like the electrode is igniting, but the spark won't be intense enough to start a flame. This is due to a bad ignitor on the board (not sending the correct amount of electrodes). You can buy those separately if you know how to de-solder and re-solder one back on. Otherwise, you'll have to swap out the entire board. Thank you very much for the detailed video.

    Suburban furnace SF-42QT 15amp fuse blown. Turned all power source off. Replacement fuse blowes with power restored to fuse panel, furnace of course is off and fuse blows. Twice it happened. Checked fuse component,ok. Reconnected to empty holder, still blowes. Line to furnace not showing resistance to ground. Firt thought comes to mind? Jasper AB little cold, using heat pump, fireplace and portable heater. Happy labor day

When I was sitting in the camp chair trying to come up with basic analogies I decided not to go too deep into that topic - I was already worried I was making a mess of my analogy and needed to get back to work - I could see the customer was getting antsy w/o having any power eh. If the blower doesn't turn on it can be either the motor, relay switch or the circuit board right?

  • @msdarwin04
    @msdarwin04 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Physically checked distribution panel fuse (good). Thermostat clicks. Voltage checked the power switch, sail switch and circuit board. All seems to be working with the circuit board giving the error of "Air flow / limit fault). The Blower on the other hand does not seem to be getting power. I tested the -12VDC wire from the wall which is capped to the black wire going to the chassis of the blower. It worked fine. The black wire (reconnected) goes to the chassis of the blower. The connector for the black wire has a second black wire going to the off-white rectangular connector but does not seem to get power even though it is connected to the -12VDC wire in the wall. Following a number of your videos on testing. It seems to me my blower motor is dead as it is the only thing not responding and everything else (circuit board, sail switch, limit switch). As I do not have an available battery, is there another way to test the blower motor?

    We have our thermostat set at 68. There are times when the temperature is colder than 68 and the furnace doesn’t kick on. We have to turn the furnace off then back on and then it warms up to the set temp. Sometimes it can work properly all day. Sometimes we will have to turn it off then back on gain. What could be the problem?

    Any way I went out side to look and there was lots of black soot on the out side of trailer and the screen. I disconnected the wires to the furnace.

    So I have a question, I have same problem but I tested the blower motor by putting voltage to it with power probe and it works.. my issue is between the blower motor power wire from their back. What might it be?

    • @MyRVWorks
      @MyRVWorks  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Okay, if you have a power probe, check that when there is a call for heat, that you have 12 volts on the pin on the DSI board that feeds the blower motor. Perhaps it's the control board and you're not getting power through that black relay on the DSI motherboard.

    I was wondering if you have any idea why the fan motor on my hf 8012 twitches once a second and does a quarter turn when the thermostat wires are connected. It's also not doing anything when I engage the sail switch manually. My intuition tells me the motor is actually spinning the wrong way when it does twitch on for that split second, but I'm not sure what way it's actually supposed to go, so I may just be stupid! 😂

    See, at 3:40 you just blow it for me. Stutter, repeat, begin relating to a different furnace type? I've got the same issue with a click, but the fan is not starting and I just want to find how to trouble shoot that abd that only. No switches, no Suburbans or Aqua Hot just from hot wire to reset/power switch to board and that's all. Limit works, motor works and reset works. I've checked connections to and from board and have got it to work temporarily. Maybe not enough battery power amps to run fan but have fully charged battery? Got to be a bad board, right?

    I'm taking HVAC classes right now and I want to work on RV's and travel to places like this. I wonder if I can make a living just traveling the country and working on RV heating and air systems along the way. My son died and I don't really have anything else to do. We were going to start a father and son heating and air conditioning business together in Texas but now I just want to travel and see all I can before I die. Shouldn't be much longer. I'll be 60 in June so I figure I may have 10 good years left before I can go see my son and Jesus.

    • @ChrisNobodySpecial
      @ChrisNobodySpecial 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I am sincerely sorry to hear about the loss of your son. May the Lord help lighten your burden and guide and keep you safe.
      I have been doing HVAC and Refrigeration for a school district and I am 62 years old. My nephews do HVAC/R also in the private sector. One will not touch residential because it is a pain in the ass dealing with homeowners, especially the women. They beg you to fix their system, then cry poor-mouth when getting the estimate or invoice. Small commercial is a good way to start out, as business owners need that system running and will pay a pretty penny to have their beer cooler back on line again or the A/C system pumping cool air in their dining room again.
      You should try to start out working with a smaller HVAC contractor to learn the tricks of the trade. Tech school is great, but it does not compare to on the job training. You should try to work for someone while taking classes. Both tech school and OJT training is the best way to attack it, you will learn this trade much faster.
      And at 62 years old, I still bust my ass on 110 degree roofs. Nothing like doing a compressor change out on a ladder access only 3 story gymnasium, where you are pulling up everything by hand, including a 75 pound compressor, pulling it up 40'by rope, one a hand at a time. And that is just the tip of the iceberg; torches, nitrogen bottle regulator, recovery cylinder, refrigerant tank, recovery machine,vacuum pump, extension cords, manifold gauges, scale, tool bag, step ladder, ultrasonic leak detector and other assorted goodies to get the system back on line; and this is always when it is hotter than hell and what goes up must come down.
      If you pace yourself and are in decent shape, you can make a good 10 year run at it.
      As far as being a travelling technician, you'd probably barely make a living. Generally most people hit the road with their system running and in working order. If the system takes a hit, they will probably wait until they get back to their home and see their local RV repair shop. If you are on the road, how will people even know your services are available. Maybe you can have a big sign on your RV and cruise through RV parks and get attention or advertise that way. But be careful to get your money up front when buying parts. Don't front the parts unless the cat looks well established and is on the road with a LATE model rig.
      Good luck and give it a try. If you just are doing it for a way to be constructive and make a little gas money and meet people, have at it and enjoy yourself. Best of luck and happy travels, I'll pray for your good fortune, joy and peace of mind. Someday you will be united again. As a believer, you surely have seen signs of the Almighty's extra-dimensional presence. Sometimes I forget or take it for granted what the LORD has revealed to me, but then I get a fresh reminder now and then and it is like a warm reassuring pat on the shoulder. Hang in there brother, keep the faith and may the Lord bless you.

I appreciate that and I do know that there is a lot of money to be made in HVAC if a person really hustles and works hard, but I'm not looking to make a lot of money and I have no family to support. I am not completely alone on the planet and money really means nothing to me. I know for a fact that I do not have to put a lot of effort into finding customers and drumming up business because my Heavenly Father has kept me on this planet for some reason that I can't figure out, but if I have learned nothing else, I have learned that He NEVER lets me go hungry or without whatever I need.
      I'm not looking to make a ton of money in HVAC or even enough to raise a family since I am well past that age. My hope for that was to see me son so it, but I will never see that now so the only thing I have left is to see what God has kept me alive for and to do whatever it is that He has left me here for and then with any luck, He will take me out of this world and let me enter into His Kingdom. I am not concerned in the least, how people would know about my services because God will let me know how to go about that. My needs are few and my faith is so much bigger than a mustard seen and I has seen with my own two eyes REPEATEDLY how my Heavenly Father has made impossible things happen for me over and over and over again so I appreciate all you have told me but little of it actually applies to me as far as how I will manage. God bless you and I pray that your life continues to unfold in a way that pleases our Heavenly Father and satisfies YOUR needs which are clearly much greater than mine.

      @@alanj399 I have heard preacher's and others all my life say they can't wait for God to take them. " I wish God would come back today". I think that is wrong, God gave us life to live and saying things like that is not being appreciative of his gift to us, live your life loving the lord and be looking forward to more day's on this wonderful earth, let God decide how long that will be and you worry about how you are going to live it.

    Hi bud, i have an 2002 old RV and I've done numerous tests and the main issue is the blower does not turn on. I got power to it and all. Everything clicks as should but it don't turn on. I put it all back together it started working then turned off after min. The blower works when i test it manually to a battery. What can my issue be.
    P.S the same issue happened to my parents rv a few hours prior to mine.

      Did you figure out your issue? I have the same problem. 12v into the board. If I send 12v straight to the motor it runs. I suspect the control board/ relay is bad.

What I would love to do is get like a stress ball in the shape of an RV and say something like take the stress out of RV repair and have our logo on that. But I will add your idea as well. It would be exciting to have my apparel/fan store so stay tuned.

    Nice work finding that dead motor. I'll admit the title pretty much gave it away. If the motor relay engages that's pretty much the only thing left. One thing I wonder about is the economics of this repair. You had to come out, pull the furnace, diagnose it, order/replace the part, clean up the wiring then drive back out to reinstall. How does that compare (cost-wise for the customer) to just replacing the whole unit? I frequently run into exactly this predicament where its often cheaper to replace than repair.

    • @MyRVWorks
      @MyRVWorks  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I often don't know what I'm getting into until I get into it. I keep the customer involved as much as I can on decisions I need to make regarding cost, not only on the repair bill but also other options like replacement. This particular furnace had been worked on by so many other people it was butchered. When it was done we just had to put a new motor in and clean up some wiring and I even replaced a few wires. I think the customer made the right call and just replacing the motor. It works fine besides that. So now we have another happy camper.

  • @dnafpv
    @dnafpv 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    How much did this end up costing the customer? I can get a new unit for around $400 but would prefer to have you save mine. I can drive to you 1985 34ft class A cross country by sportscoach

      You need to verify your getting voltage coming back from the sail switch into the control board. If you look at the wiring schematic you should be able to determine which wire that is (usually blue wire but sometimes it's red.) On my website you might be able to find the service manual for your furnace that will be helpful. myrvworks.com/manuals/
