    Jess rubber cement only sticks to itself. You have to put it on both pieces, wait til it gets tacky, then it works great. Love the video, as always.

    Hey Jess, this is also great for holding those wonder clips when you take a class or go on a sewing retreat. And if you line it with food safe pul it holds crunchy little goldfish for snacking!

    What a coincidence, I just made a pouch like that yesterday! I had 5 of those clasps for a very long time, but yesterday I finally got the courage to start 😅 I made the pattern myself, with hair-on cowhide. It’s very cute. One day I want to make my own handbag. I have a clasp like that in a big size, (also for a very long time now 😇) but that’s a glue in version. I can’t decide what I want, make it also from cowhide, or use a reclaimed cross stitch embroidery scene with leather sides. Have a nice day, greetings from the Netherlands 👋🏼

    I love your video tutorials! I have been binge-watching them all week LOL. I'm totally new to bag making, and I have learned a lot thanks to you. This time, however, I think I can give a useful tip...As soon as you apply the rubber cement wet I knew it will not work. You have to apply it to both parts you want to glue together and wait for it to dry until tacky, then you make contact with both parts and let it dry completely. It's a very good adhesive, just weird to work with. LOL

    • @OklaRoots
      @OklaRoots  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much for the advice! I'm going to give the wet cement another shot. I definitely felt like I wasn't using it correctly.

I ordered all the supplies & labored over which fabric to use; I used Hocus Pocus fabric in cl & it is just gorgeous; the little purse turned out better than I would have imagined. You are fantastic at tutorials, BUT GUUURRLLLL, that hand sewing was a BEAR!!!!! And I cross stitch!!!! The hand sewing is the ONLY reason I haven’t made more!!!!!

  • @latetotheparty4785

    There are specialty pliers that are used on purse frames to crimp them onto the fabric. It wouldn’t replace the hand sewing, but would decrease the space between the frame and the purse body, and increase the strength of the bond between the two.

    • @OklaRoots
      @OklaRoots  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      So yes, I do use the wool mat over my cutting mat. If I don't use steam it doesn't warp. However, if I use a lot of steam then my cutting map bubbles up. I find it flattens out after a few minutes, so it isn't permanent.
