I learnt so much from your tutorial, aside from the corner boxing! Double sided tape and staples are genius. Your teaching style is so clear. Thank you very much ❤.
As an engineer who was very good at trigonometry in high school, I appreciate this immensely. this is absolutely brilliant explanation!!! I applaud you for explaining it so well! Thank you so very much!
O! M! G! Thank you! Thank You! Thank you! You gave a perfect explanation of the reason I’ve struggled with these simple bags! I learn best by watching AND understanding the WHY. You gave us the WHY!!! 10 stars!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you for the excellent explanation!! As soon as I am able to remember this at will, I will be so happy! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I am making a crib note so as to not waste precious sewing time lookin for this page again. ❤❤❤❤❤
I have "felt" this problem every time I've sewn a box corner, but never could explain it. What a relief to know that I can simply cut that kite bump off.
I've never seen anyone do this but I figured it out myself years ago. It just makes sense. It's like when sewing pillows....you need to sew a curve down to the point instead of sewing a straight line. A straight line will give you long, empty pointed corners where a curved line hugs the pillow insert, filling out the corners. Little tricks like this give professional results!
I can't tell you how many times I am watching you and go "This lady is brilliant!". I love all the reasons why you do a particular trick and what happens if you don't!
The explanation of adjusting the bottoms, the bending of the zipper, and the use of double-sided tape were all eye opening to me!! -This from somebody who has been sewing for 50 years. You are brilliant!!!
I’m 72; math/geometry/algebra classes were my favorite decades ago. I think this is the first tutorial I’ve come across where the math component was illustrated and explained so perfectly. Math teachers rock @mathmom102350 😊
Life changing.... I cannot wait to try your method now because I have struggled with the box corners and your video just makes perfect sense. You are the best. Thank you a million times over.
This is hands down the best sewing tutorial I have seen on TH-cam. Great explanations, hacks I have never seen before, and Crystal clear video. Also, no irrelevant content to the subject matter. Fantastic 👍🏻
I absolutely love this explanation. I just made a pouch yesterday and as always the bowed bottom came up and like usual I just sort of fudged the sew line to make it straight. Voila... I saw this video listed in my feed today and you have the best teaching skill I have seen in a very long time if ever. Thank you so much! I subscribed your channel right away, and hit the bell!!!
I don't cut the corners. I prefer to leave the corners and fold the fabric to get the triangle shape and then measure and mark your line. Sew on the line then cut the triangle off leaving a 1/4" seam allowance. What's nice about sewing is that it's all personal preference. This is a great tutorial for those that like to cut the corners out.
Thank you for this tutorial. I learned so much and have been "adjusting" a lot of patterns to ensure great boxed corners. I also went to a bag making retreat and adjusted your pattern to me a two tone zipper pouch. Many of the participants took that pattern and made their own versions as well. We had a ball thanks to you!! And all had lovely boxed corners!!
Superb tutorial! I enjoyed watching the video because your explanations of every step were so clear and your camera angles and audio were just right! So many tips! Thank you!. I only make pythagorean pouches these days because this design results in a rectangular pouch, whereas the typical boxed corner pouches (2 rectangles sewn together and corners then boxed) result in a narrower bottom and wider top, the opposite of what is practical.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I always thought that I was cutting something crooked or wrong. What an eye opener, this is so awesome. And your tutorial and explanation was the best. Great work, I can't wait to see more of your videos and tutorials.
Well even at 80 years old I have learnt something new. Thank you a thousand times. It makes complete sense as to why I have had problems trying to get a flat bottom.
Best tutorial ever….now I have gained some confidence in making pouches… all these wile never made because I would have that excess fabric and couldn’t understand why the bottom was never straight…. Thank you soooooo much.
Travail extrêmement précis !! Je ne connaissais pas l'idée des bandes autocollantes, des agrafes et de la roulette !! Merci pour toutes vos explications !
Once again you showed me a better way. Just made this pouch using a shiny vinyl and waterproof lining. It went beautifully. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Next up, practicing those turned butler zips using a lighter to hold.
I am a beginner sewist. I have been wanting to make a pouch like this for a while. I watched this video and made a pouch tonight. Thanks for the very clear explanation of the pattern and the demonstration of steps while making the pouch. I learned a lot about many different things making this pouch. Mine is not perfect, but I am excited to make another one. Thanks for the great instruction!
Best tutorial for boxed bottoms! Thank you for your tips and tricks to boot. I'm so looking forward to making a perfect custom tech pouch for myself. Please make more videos!
This was an AWESOME video! I have always had a problem and thought it was my sewing. I love that you related it to math (my husband was a math teacher). When I was in high school math (60 years ago) I could do the math equations, etc. but I never knew why or where I would use the math. You nailed the sewing and the math! Thanks for taking time to show us!!!!
One of the best purse tutorials that I have watched ! Will have to check the pouch I’ve sewn to see the difference. Kept it very simple and that is super important to me. I just checked my my Blue Wren pouch die, I did the cut to make bottom lie flat. Super easy fix. I’ve made so many of these bags, but this tutorial gives very directions.
Thank you for this tutorial. You explained so many things I wondered about. I like altering patterns to suit me. You have given me knowledge to make this process easier
Thank you for explaining bag making so well. I have been asked to make several cloth, lined, zippered bags. Never made a bag before, just quilted. So I made one from scrap fabric. Mock up. I did not have a pattern, but I did it. I made boxed corners with a square bottom. But your way is so much easier. Your expectations for why you do things were wonderful. I learned so much. Thank you again.
I've made probably 20 of these bags and have been SO frustrated with how my top corners by the zipper are always folded in or pinched-looking. Never occurred to me to topstitch only where the zipper starts. Thank you for this tutorial, you helped me troubleshoot quite a lot! 😁
Mind blown 🤯🤯. I've learnt so much in this video. Thanks so much for the easy explanation. Always wondered why the pouches tilted and not lay flat. Thanks so much for sharing. ❤❤❤❤
Wow!!! I love your explanation. It makes perfect sense and I have full confidence that I can modify my bag patterns to produce the results I want. Thanks so much.
I am so glad I found your video, I will have flat bottom bags from now on. Thank You for sharing your time, and your talent with all of us. Thank you also for the pattern, can't wait to make one, or several.
Oh my goodness! Not only the boxed bottoms, but several of your sewing processes, such as sewing in the seam allowance then pivoting to sew the topstitching, also blew my mind! I thank you for persisting in your 3-D trig, thereby helping the sewing world!
Amazing explanation of this problem. I’m 74 years old and been sewing since I was 4 years old and I’ve made 100’s of bags/pouches and never realised that was what I needed to do to rectify the situation. I’ve always just shuffled it about and cut off the excess. Thank you for explaining it.
So glad to have been able to help such an experienced sewist! It really goes to show that no matter how skilled we are there is always something out there to help us keep improving, I’m always looking for the next thing to make me better!
Totally mind blown! I have made 1000+ bags and this is the the very best explanation of the "bottom problem" ever. Wish I could give you 10 thumbs up.
You can. Gotoher other vids and give them thumbs up too.
AGREED!
All along I thought it was my lack of skill. THANK YOU!
Math teacher here…this makes so much sense!! Thanks for showing the all the math images with it.
🤯 You just made me understand geometry after DECADES of it not making sense, and huge bonus that it has to do with sewing!!!! Thank you!!!!
You are very welcome!
I learnt so much from your tutorial, aside from the corner boxing! Double sided tape and staples are genius. Your teaching style is so clear. Thank you very much ❤.

So amazing

Where have you been all my sewing life?! Everything you show us is a game changer. Thank you so much!
I’m a novice & appreciate so much great info to refine my sewing. Thank you !
You are very welcome!
I have "felt" this problem every time I've sewn a box corner, but never could explain it. What a relief to know that I can simply cut that kite bump off.
Fabulous! It was staring us in the face all along. Thank you so much for this.:)
You are freaking incredible! How to learn something so obvious when you’re in your 60’s lol. Thank you!
I am glad I could help!
Even something as simple as backstitching along the side is a detail I’ve never thought to do!
I've never seen anyone do this but I figured it out myself years ago. It just makes sense. A straight line will give you long, empty pointed corners where a curved line hugs the pillow insert, filling out the corners. Little tricks like this give professional results!
Yes......I did as well......But had no idea why I was doing it, I seemed to just blame my poor cutting at the time....lolol
You have got to be the best teacher ever! I love all your sewing tips!
You are too kind, thank you. ☺️
One of the best videos I have ever watched. So many tips, amazing. Thank you so much
Thank you! ☺️
I can't tell you how many times I am watching you and go "This lady is brilliant!". I love all the reasons why you do a particular trick and what happens if you don't!
Thank you Carol 😊
The explanation of adjusting the bottoms, the bending of the zipper, and the use of double-sided tape were all eye opening to me!! -This from somebody who has been sewing for 50 years. You are brilliant!!!
Thank you! ☺️
Ditto for me! ❤
I am a HS math teacher and teach Geometry. This may be my favorite EVER tip and explanation!
I love that!! Math was one of my favorite subjects as school.
I’m 72; math/geometry/algebra classes were my favorite decades ago. I think this is the first tutorial I’ve come across where the math component was illustrated and explained so perfectly. Math teachers rock @mathmom102350 😊
Yes....when students can see, actually see how it matters in real life experience.
Maybe you need to have a little arts and crafts day for your class ❤
Wow, that is hands down the best tutorial for a boxed pouch I’ve seen - thank you!
I always wondered why my corners did not line up. Thank you for the excellent tutorial. Even my zipper looks better with your method.
EXCELLENT!! I love the zipper hack, and having the lining cut a bit smaller makes for that perfect fit inside :)
Finally an instructive video on how to make a better bag. Thank you so much for posting. I'm always looking to improve my sewing skills.
You are very welcome!
Dang!! I’m a senior seamstress that’s been sewing longer than you’ve been alive and you just taught me something new!! Kudos to you!! 🤩🎉🌹

You're very welcome!
I've been on a mission to perfect a bag pattern with these bottoms (I've made over 35 and they're hit or miss) this has been SO helpful!
I'm so glad to help! It is one of those things you won't be able to unsee, I hope it means many more hits than misses in your future projects!
Life changing.... I cannot wait to try your method now because I have struggled with the box corners and your video just makes perfect sense. You are the best. Thank you a million times over.
You made it make sense 💡 within the first 5 minutes I got it, you’re a good teacher! Thanks!
Thank you Susan!
I kept thinking I was cutting things incorrectly when I had that issue. Thanks for the great explanation
This is hands down the best sewing tutorial I have seen on TH-cam. Great explanations, hacks I have never seen before, and Crystal clear video.

Thanks so much Naomi! That is very high praise. 🥰 Glad to be able to help (without the fluff!) 😉
I also just found you !!! Grateful for your knowledge and sharing! Now a subscriber!!!!
Glad to have you!
This was great. Being a newer sewer I always thought I was doing something wrong and it frustrated me to no end......Thank you!!!!!!!
I absolutely love this explanation. I just made a pouch yesterday and as always the bowed bottom came up and like usual I just sort of fudged the sew line to make it straight. Voila... Thank you! You are the absolute best teacher on utube, and that covers a lot of countries!
Perfection!! Thank you for sharing. Words cannot explain the professionalism that the pouches demonstrate. THANK YOU!!!!!

Yes, that's how I do it too. Seems much easier. Having said that though, the explanation & tutorial is really excellent.
Typically I absolutely hate a Math lesson but you just made it interesting and make sense 😮😮😮😮❤
Wonderful tutorial and solution to a vexing problem. I loved that you also shared your tricks about when to topstitch what layers.
Thank you for this tutorial. I learned so much and have been "adjusting" a lot of patterns to ensure great boxed corners. Thanks so much Paula!! Lifelong learner here too! I’m glad to share what I pick up along the way.

By far the best tutorial EVER!
THANK YOU for explaining everything in detail.
I loved the maths too.
God bless.❤
You are so welcome!
Wow, now I know why years of sewing boxes corners, they were always weird looking. Great information! Thank you.
Love this tutorial. I do love the zipper jig, easy to get pull on.
I’m so glad you have a technique you like!
Thank you so much for this detailed video- very informative. Love it!
Oh my goodness! Not only the boxed bottoms, but several of your sewing processes, such as sewing in the seam allowance then pivoting to sew the topstitching, also blew my mind! I thank you for persisting in your 3-D trig, thereby helping the sewing world!
So glad to be able to share some tips!
This is so smart. When you break it down like you did it so makes sense. Thank you xx
Amazing explanation of this problem. I’m 74 years old and been sewing since I was 4 years old
and I’ve made 100’s of bags/pouches and never realised that was what I needed to do to rectify the situation. I’ve always just shuffled it about and cut off the excess. Thank you for explaining it.
So glad to have been able to help such an experienced sewist! It really goes to show that no matter how skilled we are there is always something out there to help us keep improving, I’m always looking for the next thing to make me better!
