  • In this video I diagnose and repair a McCulloch T55 CLS Line Trimmer that will not start. In the end the end the fix is relatively simple, however this video shows the complete diagnosis process that I went through in order to fix this machine!

That's what mine does. New magneto, plug, gaskets, diaphragms. Still won't work. Going to cut it into 3 inch lengths with a hacksaw tomorrow. It's had its chance...

I have the weedeater version with is identical with a green starter cover instead of orange. Owned it from new for over 15 years and love it. Nice and light with plenty of power for domestic use. It's actually made by husqvarna in the USA.
I had this loose head issue also once. Use a piston stop and a t25 torx key to undo clutch drum. Then long nose pliers to undo clutch assembly. Then you can remove the starter housing.

Interesting video, I'm currently having similar trouble with mine, just stopped and wouldn't restart except to fire for a second or so. I'll check if the barrel's loose like yours or maybe it's in the carburettor, very annoying. Thanks for doing the video, dare I say better to work on a clean bench though?

Drew, When you had the shaft off there is a small torx bolt that holds on the shaft extention (Clutch Drum) But I guess you have a speed hole now.

I have the McCulloch X-series 250CXL and had similar issues with not starting and cutting out.
It had been sitting for about a year or so and the fuel wasn't that great so decided to strip down the engine clean, replace gaskets, rebuild and replace fuel with a fresh mix of 40-1 and the results, good as new. To remove the front cover the Clutch plate should be removed by removing the torques screw, also there is a small screw situated behind the fuel tank so removing this would be beneficial and once done you can remove the front cover. The throttle lockout switch must also be put back and makes it dangerous to operate without it.

Yes, it was very helpful - for my McCulloch it was replaced with a new spark plug and the carburetor was blocked costing NZD$110 but still, I would not be able to handle all those screws to reach the carburetor, and yet I would not have know that was the problem so I would have to let the workshop do the screws, etc for me. But I admire anyone who would give it a go-to fix their own. Great job!!!
