      Andrew LaCivita I appreciate the tips are you providing, but I have a question in regards to tip #2. If a person did have an address that they could use in their desired state wouldn’t that cause a problem when the job wants you to meet them for an interview? Wouldn’t that paint a picture that you lied on your resume?

    • @bethiciaprasek1008
      @bethiciaprasek1008 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ludakkris I recognize you likely already have a job, but people visit these many years later.
      IMO, as long as you actually have a place you can stay for a while (friend/family) and will not ask for relocation then it seems okay to me.
      When I went to Houston I did so but also told them I was visiting Houston within "these few dates". Basically, if you want to interview me then please do so then. Received a job within 3 days of arriving. I had to go to a resale shop to get work clothes as all I brought we interview ones!

    Great tips! I have found that large (10k plus) Facebook groups that are of interest to you are another great place to find people to network with because you have something in common. I’ve seen people reach out on these groups and just say “thinking of moving to Austin to work in tech, I’d love to talk with anyone who lives in the area” and plenty of people reach out.

Like im planning on getting my nail tech license and my pharmacy tech certification and have 6 years of minimum wage jobs behind me on my resume, i know the certifications im going for arent prestigious but my small town in nebraska doesnt have anything for me and i see myself living in places like the carolinas, tennessee or even oregon, i am 23 years old and i want to move out of my state there is literally nothing here, the only kind of safe and stable way to move to a new state for a career if your company that you work for doesnt relocate you, would be to go to college in another state, but i think that might be more expensive

    Foreigners have a major obstacle to overcome before they could use any of the tips given in this video. That obstacle is by far greater concern for the companies than the concern of applicant’s relocation expenses from abroad. That concern is immigration bureaucracy that an employer and the employee must go through in order for the latter to obtain a permission to work for the former. That is such a great obstacle that it can be compared to the attempt to climb Everest. If an applicant is prepared to overcome an obstacle of that difficulty, an advice of taking off their current address can be as helpful as telling an Everest climber to put snow boots on because it would help to stay warm. I wouldn’t even mention relocation from abroad because it just tells anyone who knows even barely about what hiring a foreigner entails that the author of this video knows absolutely nothing about that. If I were Google or Apple, the biggest tech employers of foreign citizens, i don’t think I could use MileWalk to recruit people i need...

  • @billybob7767
    @billybob7767 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    These are well advised tips and of course those who need relocation help will have to just be upfront with the employers in stating that you live out of state and plan to move once a job is offered. As someone who doesnt need assistance as my move would only be 400 miles (with 1 small u-haul) I still have a hard time thinking the employer wont question why you have no locations posted on your resume of current and previous job(s). Especially if your new destination has locations in their area as well. They may ask if you work at that company in one of their local cities...just forces you to lie more and more in an interview 😕

      I think companies are more likely to do this if they are only hiring 1 person for the role, esp if its a more important or skilled role. I moved to a new state after taking another job within my company previously and they didn't cover location because it was a lateral move for me. If it was for a management position, for example, they would have.

    Andy, I'm applying for jobs in NY (where I lived for 12 years), although I'm currently living in another state. Are most (or many) applicant tracking systems set up to screen out applicants who aren't located in-state? Even though I can leave my address off my resume and cover letter, I've found that most application systems require you to list your address. Even if I explain in my cover letter that I'll be moving to the NY shortly, that does me no good if the ATS automatically rejects my application (or doesn't rank it high in the search results when the HR person runs the search for the position for which I've applied) and the cover letter is never read. I can list my friend's address in NY when I apply, and if it becomes an issue later on, say that I was staying there temporarily at the time I submitted the resume. However, that would not be truthful. Thoughts? Thank you.

WHEN should I start applying for jobs? I am moving by myself so I do not need relocating package and I am moving FOR SURE. Obviously I need to secure a job before moving. I know people already asked these questions but with covid I dont know if anything changes. Is it ok to have a PA cell phone on my resume? What if you move first then find a job? If you can’t find one then come back

      This is what I was considering. Maybe finding a temporary job to get settled in my target location before searching for what would ultimately be my career. Did you do this, and if so, do you have any tips?

    I know you mentioned to take your address off when your applying to a job out of state but what happens when they say they want you to come in for an interview in the next day or 2 that might hard to do when you live out of state and need to fly there... the flights are going to be expensive... how do you navigate that issue?

      You explain to them that you live in a different city and that you’re moving to that location but aren’t there yet.

    This may be a minor thing, but it's something that popped into my mind. I live near Boston and began my job search in Dallas two weeks ago. I have a temporary base in Duncanville so I can change my resume address. My phone number has a Boston area code. Do I include my current phone number?

      It’s okay to keep your Boston Cell number. I would put it on the resume.

      Do you have any tips for someone trying to move from the south to Boston? (Not weather related)

    I don't wanna a job.I hate the word "job"
    I don't want to work as a corporate slave.
    I'll rather go homeless.

    Always remember to repent of your sins (sin is transgression of YAHUAH’S LAW: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, & Deuteronomy) And Have Belief On YAHUSHA HAMASHYACH. HE Died and Rose three days later so that you can be forgiven of your sins!
    HE Loves you! Come to HIM!🙂
