It is the song that I have chosen for my funeral. From the first time I heard it when I was 17 years old, it was magical. Today at 58 years old, every time I listen to it, I can't help but shed a tear. Thanks for so much beauty
Snow Patrol's reworked Chasing Cars from The Royal Albert Hall 🤔 PS Oh, and just about every live performance (including Dave Gilmour) of Comfortably Numb.
This song meant little to me when I was in my 20s. I'm almost 70 and now it means everything. The loves I've won and then lost with their passing. Family and friends. Things that you wanted to say and do while they were alive but didn't or couldn't for whatever reasons. You then realize that it all went by in the blink of an eye. Unstoppable. When I was a kid the summers seemed to go on forever. I was 13 when the Beatles first appeared on Ed Sullivan and then all the other bands that followed them, How lucky we were to be there at the start of it all and witness it unfolding, Then this song comes along and makes you face reality that it's all coming to an end and maybe sooner that you think. That's why this song is in a class by itself and maybe just a smidgen behind In My Life and then again maybe not. Only time will tell.
Well said Bob. I'm your age, and have realized in the last decade that time speeds up as the inevitable draws closer. I've had a good run, and there seems to be more to come, and I hope the same for you.
I wasn't really interested in this song but now that Im 70 it has meaning. I agree about being here when the Beatles etc came along. I saw them when they came to San Diego in 1965. That was the only time they came to San Diego. It was outside & back then the sound system wasn't anything like they are today. So between that & screaming girls you weren't really able to hear it good. Im a woman & believe me I wanted to knock them out👊 LOL. I wish I kept my ticket stub but I do have my ticket stub for a Elvis concert😊
You and me both! This reminds me of living at the beach for the summer in '84! Such great memories which I'll remember till my dying day. Definitely the best time of my youth!
Shortly After my mom died in 2017, I heard this song a couple times. It was so very sad and painful unlike any pain I had felt. I felt so hopeless and alone. I couldn't listen to this song again. It was just too sad. Now I can listen to it again 8 years later.

The airiness of his voice is just perfect for this song, Then he open's it up so gently into the chorus with just a touch of power and resolution right before he get's to a rock steady falsetto. Just beautiful. If they don't play this at my funeral, I'm not going.
OMG!! That's hilarious!! I couldn't agree with you more!! This song stands the test of .... TIME. See what I did there? lol This was my number 1 theme song as a very young, weepy girl and all these years later, still weepy!! I'm with you, if they don't play it at mine..... Old and Wise is another great funeral song. PJ Olsson sings a lovely version here on TH-cam. You can also find the original vocals to this song sung by Colin Blunstone on TH-cam as well.
My favourite live version of this song, what a voice. Goosebumps and tears. Still my favourite song ever. Funeral song for sure. "Goodbye my love, now I must be sleep..." Oh god... August 2024, anyone else here? ❤
In the dark days, weeks, and months following my late-wife's death, this song became a constant companion. I carried my grief for many years until I was finally able to claw my way out of that pit of despair and sorrow. It has been a decade since her passing and I still wonder, "Who knows when we shall meet again, if ever..." This song is so achingly beautiful that every time I hear it I am brought to tears. "And time keeps flowing like a river... to the sea."
i like it but wollfsons version is who i grew up with and i went through some serious shit when it came out and noone can ever duplicate that version for me. But I acknowledge Olssons magnificence.
At the age of 81, all the things in my life have, for the most part, gone forever. Still with me are the results of that life. This recording of Time is one of them. I thought the original was beautiful, but this one is so perfect that it hurts to hear it, but hear it I must. It keeps flowing like a river, to the sea.
I'm 73, and the woman I love with all of my heart is 33. Out of necessity, we had to have the discussion that at some point, I will have to leave her forever. She will still be a vibrant young woman, and I will, of course, be dead. There's no way to avoid it, and there's no way it doesn't help to know that each day brings it one day closer to reality. I've never been one to fear death, but that look of sadness in her eyes is terrifying to me. When she heard the lyrics, "Who knows when We shall meet again, if ever," she cuddled up to me and whispered, "When the time comes, if you are out there, I will find you. If I can't find you, listen for me calling your name and find me."
After finding and marrying the absolute love of my life in my early 70's (his, too), we managed to have nearly seven magical, wonderful years together. On May 5, 2022 he was diagnosed with "beginning stage" small cell lung cancer and we were told that with chemotherapy he would live at least another four or five years. He died five weeks later on Father's Day, June 19, 2022. My heart and I are still shattered; every day when I wake up, the grief is still as fresh and overwhelming as it was the instant he took his last breath. What keeps me going is the promise he made to me only a few hours before he crossed over. He had already asked me if I loved him enough to let him go. My answer to him was, "Will I ever see you again?" His answer: "Baby, I will be the first one you see when you get there! I will be standing right there beside Jesus, waiting for you!" I believed him then, and I still believe him now. Time races and creeps, both at once, and I get discouraged having to wait. Then I remember that in Heaven, ten thousand years is no longer than the blink of an eye, and it will be much sooner than later that my sweet love and I will be together again, and this time it will be forever. To those who all too well understand how it feels to be perpetually waiting, remember that blink of the eye, and know that it will pass much quicker than we expect.
PJ OLSSON is the singer and what a gift you have, sir! This is a beautifully orcestrated and tremendously moving song. That Alan would have you singing this part is a gesture of perfection on his part. The best it's ever been done in my estimation. I bow to you both.
Yes I agree this is a wonderful tune! It too brought me to tears because of many family members had passed away through the years including my dad when he passed away in 2017 and now an uncle to my youngest nephews and niece. It's true time waits for nobody!

It was played at the funeral of Jenny Isford who was raped and murdered steps from her home. Jenny was a beautiful 20 year old Toronto Sunshine girl in 1981. So tragic.
@@markpaley515 A long way depends on how far one has already gone. It's not always easy to admit it, but one comes to the realization that the majority of their life has already passed. At my age (71) that long way could be as soon as tomorrow or 10+ yrs. from now.
I love when prog rock groups pair with symphony orchestras because it becomes clear how integral they are to each other. Just beautiful. I love this song.
@@josevazques186 I agree. My music uses violin and viola played by my sister. There is a classical vibe to what I write. Thanks for your response. Gracias, amigo.
My beautiful wife Tammie left me forever, yesterday afternoon. All I could do as I watched her leave, was to keep saying "I'm Sorry", for not being able to do more to keep her with me. She will never know how much I will miss her.
this is so incredibly moving. such a great performance. i got goosebumps when the camera focused in on the orchestra. This song moves me on levels I cannot begin to explain in words.
I love Alan Parsons Project! As someone who is barely a Boomer (born in 1963), and someone who appreciated and loved music from a young age, I got to experience the music of the 60s, 70s, and 80s. I am truly blessed.
My brother and I, big Pink Floyd fans were talking about Gilmour's new song and my bro said "Oh that's why u lean toward David Gilmour stuff - it is Alan Parsons-y". hehe True!
I have suddenly lost my best friend of 35+ years, thank you. I will play guitar and sing on Saturday at her funeral. I will do a favourite Eagles song she loved, and Amazing Grace. I would love this but such gorgeous arrangements and all, and I love the vocals xoxo Too much for me. This is stunning!! xoxo
The timelessness of this song cannot be overstated. As a teen, just beginning to learn about relationships, lust, envy, and heartache, it spoke to my soul. Now as a 56 year old, having lived, loved, lost, won, laughed, and cried, the words have new meaning.
I too miss my parents with all my heart - they were my best friends and such good humans. I think of them when I hear this song. Blessings and thoughts to you @davidvalenzuela5104.
In my 80's and this song is MAGNIFICENT!!! brings tears every time I listen. Enjoy every day folks as we never know when we will be "Timed Out". The orchestra is incredible as is the conductor! Such a beautiful rendition. Kudos to you Alan as well as orchestra.
We are a very blessed generation - us Baby Boomers. I'm 71 now. I think I've experienced all the emotions ever written - from Alan Parsons to Smokey Robinson, lol! Time has gone by like a river. As the current is beginning to slow, I raise my hands and thank Almighty God for His love and for allowing me to be a member of the best generation ever! Peace ✌
You speak the truth so beautifully never a bad record CD recording 🙂 it's pure ecstasy to lift listen to these joy. Both the the voices that are so sweet and strong, and those who are playing the instruments. 🙏💪💪🩸🤍🦚🙏
The first time I heard this song, over 30 years ago my sisters and I were taking our mothers remains to her final resting place. For 30 years, this song has always taken me back to that time and brought me to tears. It still does to this day, but I will listen to it again, knowing what it will do to me😪😪
Very underrated song!! Absolutely beautiful ❤️👍😊 i was a teenager and this song saved me from myself. That is all im going to say. Music has changed with everything else but it wont ever be this good again.
Every so often during a live performance magic happens and everyone in the audience is spellbound. The first time I watched this performance, I was blown away by this song and the tears just flowed at the sheer emotion in PJ Olsson's voice! He totally nailed it and what's more I've just bought the CD better late than never! Thank you The Alan Parsons Project for a wonderful performance! 🙂
To me after all these years this song is still enchantingly beautiful. This live version is my favorite, the voice of PJ Olsson really touches my soul.

I agree, it's a great song... Those words, "Who knows when we shall meet again", Reminds me of the hope that is in Christ JESUS.... 1st Thessalonians Chapter 4:16-17 KJV v.16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: v.17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with "Them" in the clouds, to "MEET" the Lord in the air: and so shall "WE" ever be with the Lord. v.18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words. Did any of know that Alan Parsons was the soul sound engineer for pink Floyd’s album Dark side of the moon. No wonder he makes such great sounding music ❤❤❤
I was watching the video of P J Olson singing this in 1981. It was fantastic and this is more recent where he has aged some but his rendition and delivery of this song is pure heaven. I do love his voice and vocals. He has been blessed with an angelic sound.
To clarify, the alleged 1981 live version with PJ Olson on TH-cam is actually a performance from 2004. The song was released in 1981 (so perhaps that’s why it says 1981). But PJ would have been 12 years old in 1981. If there are any live versions of the song from 1981, it would undoubtedly be Eric Woolfson (who wrote the song & originally sang it). At any rate, this is a magnificent performance by PJ.
Listening to this song after our kitty boy Spaz died 5 days ago. We were blessed with him for 14 years. He was a loyal, comforting, loving, funny part of our every day routines. His absence is jarring. Its a reminder not to waste our time here on earth on things we have no control over. Find what's important in your life and don't take it for granted.
I just started listening to APP again and this version of that song is FANTASTIC! The original will forever be awesome but PJ made this version his own. I didn’t even know who he was. His vocal range is great and his voice is powerful wherever he’s at in that range. A lot of singers have his range but lack his endurance and their sound gets weaker as they move into the higher range and lower range. And did I mention, I like the way he works the crowd and stage; he’s awesome!! Alans got himself a gem there.
Yeah this song had a effect on me too. Being 63 it brought me to tears thinking of how many family members on both sides my mom's and dads how had passed away including my own dad who passed away in 2017.
The lesson I've learned from this song is: we need to use the time wisely, take advantage of that a And enjoy the Good things of Life because once the time is gone there is no way to get back
Back in the day, we never saw the members of the Alan Parson's Project, or any sort of video, or live performance. When I found this video, watching with my 44 year old son, I said "that guy at the back playing the bass, you don't want to lose a player like that!". Subsequently found out it's Alan Parsons....aye carumba, and as a vocalist/rhythm guitarist I tend to fall in love with someone who can actually play bass. But Sir Parsons is so much more than a bass player.....understatement of the century 🙂
You can't deny the incredible vocals and accompanying music in perfect unison one of the early 1980's best kept secrets, I defy anyone to honestly give it a thumbs down without explaining... WHY!!!!, it's quite simply a gorgeous song from start to finish and truly one we can all relate to again if we're honest.
The symphony, the orchestra, the melody, the lyrics, everything....all bring this beautiful, haunting, and nostalgic song into life,,, maybe forever. Awesome. 2024 December & I'm 75 years old.
One of the most beautiful songs ever written, made even greater by adding an orchestra. It's astonishing how the music so perfectly conveys the rhythm of time. If time had a soundtrack, it would sound exactly like this.
TIMELESS........thank you for this gift....how fortunate we are....please do something for someone today unexpected....hold a door , say hello, ...and treat yourself to something, even just a moment to look at a tree....
I Had the honor of being a teenager in the 60's, and in my 20's in the 70's. What music! Soul, Tamla, Beatles, The British invasion, Moody Blues (one of my favorite albums "Blue Jays) Justin Hayward and John Lodge. When in the Royal Air Force I was a DJ on Forces Radio Sharjah I was 19 and got a love for Radio. Life took me in other directions, on an amazing ride, and yes, it has passed in the blink of an eye. Listening to music has been a great part of my life, reflecting happiness and pain. I came to Panama for work and have stayed ever since. For the last 17 years I realized my dream and have been broadcasting a morning radio show and playing all that amazing music for new audiences that never experienced it. Each piece of music in our lives is that little capsule of time that can transport us to a time and place we remember. "Time" is a song that is beautiful in summing up, that as we have gotten older (now 75) so much is behind us and we are more aware of the fragility of life, this is the song that will be the last song heard by those that come to see me off not to be sad but to be grateful for a love and life for which I am grateful. The chance of any of us even existing on this planet 1 in 280,365,000.00 don't squander it.
time...time passed ,You then realize that it all went by in the blink of an eye.
Indeed
Sad but true!

what a great idea, I think I will request that for my funeral also. This has always been my go-to sad song for 40 some years. So beautiful.

Beautiful!
This song grows on you. Especially as you get older!
Truly.
Cierto, al pasar los años se siente más especial para el espíritu
Perfect song on life and how time creeps up on us. ☮️❤️
Absolutely. I recently re-discovered it and it's 100 times more meaningful now that I'm 51.
PJ OLSSON is the singer and what a gift you have, sir! This is a beautifully orcestrated and tremendously moving song. That Alan would have you singing this part is a gesture of perfection on his part. The best it's ever been done in my estimation. I bow to you both.
No one could sing it like Eric but PJ does an awesome job putting his own touch on it.

Hands down, this is the BEST and most beautiful performance of this song. Brings me to tears!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
So true! Hands down the BEST!! PJ is a champ!
Yes I agree this is a wonderful tune! It too brought me to tears because of many family members had passed away through the years including my dad when he passed away in 2017 and now an uncle to my youngest nephews and niece. It's true time waits for nobody!

70s y 80 s
One of the most beautiful songs ever written. I have designated it as the song to be played at my funeral.
Hopefully its a long way away and you have a beautiful life
It was played at the funeral of Jenny Isford who was raped and murdered steps from her home.
Jenny was a beautiful 20 year old Toronto Sunshine girl in 1981. So tragic.
@@markpaley515 A long way depends on how far one has already gone. It's not always easy to admit it, but one comes to the realization that the majority of their life has already passed. At my age (71) that long way could be as soon as tomorrow or 10+ yrs. from now.
beautiful indeed every time I listen to it brings me to tears ❤️
me too
Possibly the best live version of this song, absolutely gorgeous!
I love when prog rock groups pair with symphony orchestras because it becomes clear how integral they are to each other. Just beautiful. I love this song.

68 years old, listened to music all my life, but somehow this one eluded me. What a beautiful song.
I am slightly younger and this song has been one of my all time favourite since it came out. I find it the PERFECT song
My beautiful wife Tammie left me forever, yesterday afternoon. All I could do as I watched her leave, was to keep saying "I'm Sorry", for not being able to do more to keep her with me. She will never know how much I will miss her.

Like “Old and Wise” “Time” is so beautiful brings tears to my eyes.
I want these two played at my funeral. They both sum up everything for me.
this is so incredibly moving. such a great performance. i got goosebumps when the camera focused in on the orchestra. This song moves me on levels I cannot begin to explain in words.
@Heaven Bound thanks for that tip. I'm going to try it now.
Yes, the high note at 4.15 - you know it's coming but still so spine-tingling
I agree it sends you to heaven and beyond such a tremendous melody
Love You. The same feelings.
Same here Laura - heard it for the first time ever approx 18 months ago and was hooked the very first time (rare for me!). It's incredibly moving.
The Lead Singer's voice is absolutely amazing! I've been listening to APP since the 70's and this has to be one of the best songs they ever did!
I love Alan Parsons Project! As someone who is barely a Boomer (born in 1963), and someone who appreciated and loved music from a young age, I got to experience the music of the 60s, 70s, and 80s. I am truly blessed.
My brother and I, big Pink Floyd fans were talking about Gilmour's new song and my bro said "Oh that's why u lean toward David Gilmour stuff - it is Alan Parsons-y". hehe True!
I can listen to this over and over and over... and cry every time....

Crying ??? NOT me . never ... but my eyes do sweat a bit sometimes
Unreal. Gourgeous song.
Are you not crying ? There must be something wrong with you ... ; )
I WAS BORN IN THE MID 50S. I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO HAVE THE BEST MUSIC EVER, 60S 70S AND 80S. NEVER HEAR THAT ERAS MUSIC AGAIN.
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL SONG! These guys have gotten better with age! WOW!!!!!
I’m 56 years old also…couldn’t agree with you more brother…
PJ Olson's voice - one of the greatest singers!

I and my stoner mates in the mid 70’s loved and still love Alan Parsons contribution to our lives. We all survived and are doing just fine.
Esta canción me recuerda cuando mi mami abandonó este mundo terrenal, me hace derramar alguna lágrima cada vez que la escucho

Absolutely brilliant, now 63, still delighted to hear and sing along... As I did when I lost my brother. .. 💕💕💕💕

Tears, they flow like time. And ,if all humanities tears were allowd to collect ,they would be deeoer and greater than any sea or ocean.
Haunting and atmospheric. What a fabulous performance, especially PJ Olssen
To me after all these years this song is still enchantingly beautiful. This live version is my favorite, the voice of PJ Olsson really touches my soul.
P.J. Olsson WOW !
Superb. Better than the original imo.
So you're dismissing the song writer who also sang this song and prefer a cheap copy. Shame on you.
@@Kaleiddmode No-one is dismissing anyone, & how u can describe PJO as a "cheap copy" I don't understand. He's an incredible vocalist who feels every note.

Goosebumps and emotional stir whenever he sings 'Who knows when WE shall meet again...' 1:44, 3:30 and the orchestra trailing it.

I agree, it's a great song...
Those words,
"Who knows when we shall meet again",

Chapter 4:16-17 KJV
v.16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
v.17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with "Them" in the clouds, to "MEET" the Lord in the air: and so shall "WE" ever be with the Lord.
v.18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

I agree, It´s one of the most beautiful songs I haved heard. But dont forget "When I´m old and wise". 🙂 Regards Lene from Denmark (62 years young).
Did any of know that Alan Parsons was the soul sound engineer for pink Floyd’s album Dark side of the moon. No wonder he makes such great sounding music ❤❤❤
Orchestra was fantastic, JP one of my favorite singers. Your voice just melts to my soul.
PJ es uno de mis cantantes favoritos también. Amo su voz, su sensibilidad, su energía.
In 1981 p.j olson was 11 years old. The original voice was alan parson or erick woolfson
Truer words have never been written.
Same but I didn't know who P.J. was till I did some homework on the boy. It's sad. They don't make them like that anymore.
Since the first time I heard this song in 2004 I fell in love with it even though it always makes me cry today it's almost 2024
This song made me cry like a baby! PJ'S voice is so touching! One talented guy!
Yeah this song had a effect on me too. Being 63 it brought me to tears thinking of how many family members on both sides my mom's and dads how had passed away including my own dad who passed away in 2017.
The lesson I've learned from this song is: we need to use the time wisely, take advantage of that a
And enjoy the Good things of Life because once the time is gone there is no way to get back
Back in the day, we never saw the members of the Alan Parson's Project, or any sort of video, or live performance.
This is so beautiful. I'm in love with Alan Parson and his band all over again. Can't get enough of P.J.
Omg I still get that tingling feeling as when I heard it at age 12 and it's March 2021 I'm turning 53.
Are we brothers??
The symphony, the orchestra, the melody, the lyrics, everything....all bring this beautiful, haunting, and nostalgic song into life,,, maybe forever. Awesome. 2024 December & I'm 75 years old.
I want this played at my funeral it is perfect. So hauntingly beautiful
What professional looks like.
What can you add to that? As a life long musician who plays many instruments and sings, this is one powerful song. Let the music move you!
My tears are rolling...
and yet it makes me feel so good....😢😅
