Listening to this is so strong! Thank you for such a beautiful message- how amazing that I found this tonight! Gods comfort through such beautiful words and music!
Alan Parsons I have loved since the 1980s. Now approaching 70, I have written down that the songs I would like played at my funeral, Over the Rainbow by Israel Kamakawiwoole, Windmills of my mind by Jose Feliciano and this version of Old and Wise. Pity I won't be able to witness it but there will be joy ... and tears!
This song was played at my brother in laws funeral in July 2020 at his request. He died from terminal cancer aged only 64. He was not old but he was so wise. This embodies everything he was, such a good friend to all he knew. So dreadfully sad and poignant. "When the curtain falls" nearly destroyed us all. I listen to it often and never fail to cry. So so sad.
I’m so sorry for your loss. My best and closest friend of some 36 years died just before his 50th 5 years ago and I miss him so much everyday - we thought we would grow old and wise together, sadly not 😢 This song is by chance is one I play and think of Mark. I am a person who has always been deeply moved by music. I remember the first time I heard this many years ago. It hit me like a bolt of lightning, bringing me tears. This live version does the same. No attempt was made to change it from the original with the brilliant sax solo being faithful to the studio version. It is incredible how many people here want it played at their funeral, or are drawn to it with the loss of a loved one. An incredible piece of music that has deeply affected the lives of a special group of people. People who like me are genuinely moved by music. Have you ever wondered how it can be that you are deeply affected by music but others around you are completely oblivious? I'm 64 now and having read all the comments here I am sure we are different, more sensitive in a way. Have you seen the film Close Encounters from the 80s? A group of disparate and different people brought together by a common power. I feel the people here are the same. Do you have a hate of injustice? Me too. No I'm not crazy , I'm getting to the 'old and wise' stage of my life. The finishing line is in sight. I have an idea, what if we were all to meet up in the summer of 2025 at my house in France and share our stories and listen to music every evening. Say the top 5 'make me cry ' songs and what they mean to for every person played on a big screen in the garden over a few days. What do you think? The reason many people seem to be oblivious is because they are caught up in the so called rat race, where everything has to be instant gratification, their attention spans are so short that they simply cannot stop, or even pause to listen to a great, and deeply moving song like this one.

The Saxophone piece in the end is so beautiful that I just don't want it to end. It's so beautiful & melancholic that it sums up all the sadness in this world.
I've been listening to Alan Parsons since I was a teenager. I'm now in my sixties. I didn't get this song back then. Do I ever get it now... If you are young and this song doesn't move you to tears, just wait. Unless you have ice water in your veins, trust me, it will move you to tears when you are approaching the end of your life. I can't listen to it now without tears streaming down my face. This song is an absolute masterpiece, as is P. J.'s performance.

It's a poignant epiphany about life, it's brevity and the accurate depiction of growing old while providing an eloquent affirmation on the value of Human connection over anything else. A brilliant piece of music that doesn't happen very often, in my opinion.

And someday in the mist of time
When they asked me if I knew you
I'd smile and say you were a friend of mine
And the sadness would be Lifted from my eyes
Oh when I'm old and wise
As far as my Eyes can see
There are shadows surrounding me
And to those I leave behind
I want you all to know
You've always Shared my darkest hours
I'll miss you when I go
And oh, when I'm old and wise
Heavy words that tossed and blew me
Like Autumn winds that will blow right through me
And someday in the mist of time
When they ask you if you knew me
Remember that You were a friend of mine
As the final curtain falls before my eyes
Oh when I'm Old and wise
As far as my eyes can see

Frankreich 2025, wenn du mitteilen willst würde mich freuen
Stimmt.
magnifique
A few years back a fellow high school student of the class of '72 asked all her hundreds of face book friends to choose one song that kinda wraps up our life since graduation. I chose "Old and Wise". Woolfson and Parsons wrote spectacular ballads. Eric was awesome. Thanx for all your gifts to the world of music. RIP.
Qien murio ? 🤪🤪🤪
@@mariamery7025 Eric Woolfson (1945 - 2009) , the writer of so many beautiful songs of the Alan Parsons Project, of which Eric and Alan were the crucial central part

My favorite song from Alan Parsons.
Written by Eric Woolfson
I lost my mom August 23 last year. She's always been a friend of mine and miss her so much.
Music keeps us connected to those we love
Just haunting and beautiful…this is life and its eventual conclusion.
Mr Alan Parsons, you have my heart
WHAT IS IT about this song that touches us all so deeply ... ❤️
“As the final curtain falls before my eyes... “ 🙏
It's a poignant epiphany about life, it's brevity and the accurate depiction of growing old while providing an eloquent affirmation on the value of Human connection over anything else. A brilliant piece of music that doesn't happen very often, in my opinion.
On one hand It‘s the song and the way the whole crew is performing it and on the other hand it‘s a true and focused view on life itself!
„Like autumn wind will blow right through me!“
❤❤
The beauty of the cycle of life.
It puts us in touch with our mortality.
I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED THE ALAN PARSONS PROJECT.BUT TO SEE THIS SONG PERFORMED LIVE? THIS SONG IS SO BEAUTIFUL AND AMAZING.TRULY A MASTERPIECE..I LOVE YOU GUYS..
I totally agree. Incredibly written, words and music both.
Real Thing, Real Sense, Real Music !
This live in Coloumbia will stay forever in the musical history.
OLD AND WISE.
(The Allan Parson's Project, 1982).
As far as my eyes can see
there are shadows approaching me
and to those I left behind
I wanted you to know
You've always shared my deepest thoughts
you follow where I go
and ooh, ooh!
when I'm old and wise
bitter words mean little to me
autumn winds
will blow right through me
and someday
in the midst of time
when they asked me if I knew you
i'd smile and say you were a friend of mine
and the sadness would be lifted from my eyes
ooh!, when I'm old and wise...
as far as my eyes can see,
there are shadows surrounding me
and to those I leave behind
i want you all to know
you've always shared my darkest hours
i'll miss you when I go
And oh, oh!,..
when I'm old and wise
heavy words that tossed and blew me
like autumn winds
will blow right through me
and someday
in the midst of time,
when they ask you if you knew me
remember that you were a friend of mine,
as the final curtain falls before my eyes
Oh!, when I'm old and wise!...
As far as my eyes can see,..
🤗❤️🤗❤️🤗❤️
OLD AND WISE.
(The Allan Parson's Project, 1982).
Tan lejos como puedo ver
hay sombras acercándose a mí
y a aquellos a quienes dejé atrás
quiero que sepan
que siempre compartieron
mis más profundos pensamientos
y me siguieron adonde iba
Ohh, ohh!...
cuando sea viejo y sabio
las palabras amargas
no me importarán
los vientos otoñales
soplarán a través mío
Ohhh, ohhh!...
y cuando sea viejo y sabio
las palabras duras
que me golpeaban y herían,
como vientos otoñales
soplarán a través mío

The Allan Parson's Project, 1982.
Never get tired of these guys :)
This song is perfection to me!!!!
My brother loved this group, and when he died, this is one of the songs that popped up on TH-cam as a suggestion. I cried so hard.❤
Sax solo = tears.. incredible.. That song always hit my heart..
Alan Parsons also used the sax effect on Dark side of the moon and Al Stewart recordings
One of the most beautiful song ever written.
I’ve been listening to this super group for over forty years. Still amazing!
Magnificc extraordinario 👌👏👏👏👏🥰🥰🥰💜🍷🌻🌻🌻
The greatest song ever. Thanks, Alan, for all your music that came in my life!
and thanks to Eric Woolfson too, of course
@@larsvanmoer453 Yeah, The Eric Woolfson's Project 😄👍
Retired in Belize for 8 years, but still listen to all the really good music like this.
This song moves me every time...
To everyone that's lost someone dear! The soul is eternal and lives on in another dimension outside the body!
The beauty of this song is in its sadness...hard not to like as one gets older.
What a great voice!
What a perfomance, unbeliveiable.
Clear uncluttered singing...emotional
Never get tired of listening this one. The sax at the end is epic
He still has it, a masterpiece of APP….
Tears. So melancholy and sad. Yet beautiful and profound. The beauty of life lasts only so long.
