Here on my channel, I am renovating a 250 year old stone cottage on my property in Normandy, France. By using traditional, low-waste and off-grid methods, I'm aiming to keep the charm and character of this old building, and turn it into a furnished, finished home for family whilst keeping environmental impact as low as possible. There will also be content on living in France, visiting beautiful rural places, hunting for antiques, gardening, and more! Hit subscribe if you would like to keep up with my journey, and hit the notification bell to be alerted when we go LIVE where we have a first viewing of the video as it is published with a live chat so I can answer all your questions! Have you thought of going over to Ryan’s World and asking Ryan if you can purchase some of his tiles? He removed so many of them and has them just sitting in his renovation.

I think you mean "Life of Ryan". I had exactly the same thought. I know he gave quite a lot of the tiles to Michael for his bathroom floor in the cottage.

Good decision. Too tight of a stair landing causes frustration, plus it looks right from across the room.

Hi Sean, that beautiful handrail would be perfect as a divider for the stairs and kitchen, instead of a wall. Going to be special when you're finished.

I agree! It allows light to pass through an already quite dark ground floor area. Altho it's $125, it would look stunning next to the granite steps.

How about using those cast iron pieces as a porch canopy / cover. Just add canvas or fabricate and insert glass somehow .
And the gothic doors could be used as upper cabinet doors in the kichen, and have lights inside the cupboards for a nice evening glow.
I thing cutting off the kitchen from the livingroom will make the spaces even smaller.

Absolutely gorgeous Gothic red-yellow-green glass panels, Hercules! So very rich looking. Your kitchen will be a tiny jewel. The iron
base will be perfect for a fireside stool. I first imagined the base being used in the kitchen, on your counter, to be seen as a towel bar, or utensil hanger, on continual display, but do concur as a stool base. I just wanted to be able to gaze upon the well-made
blacksmithing. What a quaint showpiece and complement to the metal of the glass panels. Love the ancient paint of the arch-tops. I, too, love old iron, copper, metal. Your cottage is going to be like an authentic, elegant mini-chateau; can't wait to see the final view. It was also nice to see Lady Sam, earlier in the video, sharing a cuppa with you. Happy day! Also, I enjoyed watching you adding
the large stone to your stair-base. You are an clever stonemason, for sure.

You could hang the glass panels above the kitchen sink, lights behind them so it looks like you’re looking through a window. It will give you extra light for cleaning up.

I would make a side table to sit my coffee on. Gothic panels could also be used on either side of the door going into the bathroom. I was also thinking those metals swirly pieces you didn't buy could have possibly been used has a handrail on the ladder but you left without them.

I like that lovely old wrought iron stand would be great by the fire, but for drying mittens, socks, scarves, and boots. I wouldn't cover it with a seat. I'd wire brush off all the white paint and finish it with some type of blacksmith's finishing wax.

Sean, since you have no windows on the back wall, you could build a window frame with LED back-lighting to house your stained glass windows. This would sit above your proposed Davenport and give the effect of having an actual window with the LEDs providing faux light.

I think the iron stand might have been made for tools to lean against, so they would be close at hand but not on the ground. Might have been for the blacksmith’s personal use, or maybe for a farrier. About the window panels-they look to me like they could be from a stage set, with the paint giving the effect of stonework. Great finds!

The iron smithy stand...put in bathroom to hang towels, bath mat by freestanding claw foot tub. Painted black to match the claw feet.

I am glad you are widening the steps. I do think they need to be wider to balance the space. Thin landings, steps and paths can look mean and squeezed. A more generous landing will give you a greater sense of space in the room as you have already identified - this is what balance is all about. You also have the space for it so that is great. It is tricky "carving" up a one open space into different uses = so you have a 1. Entry 2. Landing and staircase 3. Kitchen 4. Fire 5. Sitting room 6. Dining = AND it is NOT a huge space to start with. I think you are doing a fantastic job not only designing this space but then creating it. xxg Brisbane Australia

The wrought iron rail that you showed with a wooden rail would be nice used as an open half wall dividing the kitchen from the snug or as wall at bottom of stairs dividing the kitchen. It would have a more open plan look rather than using blocks and timber for a full height wall which would make small closed off rooms.

If you separate the kitchen from the sitting area that much, the space might feel small. If I were using the kitchen, I would want to see the fireplace, and to visit with whomever is there. I like the earlier ideas of incorporating the windows into front doors. It adds light. You could even make matching doors on two cottages. The other very good idea is to use them in the bathroom wall, to let light through while maintaining privacy.
