  • Today we have a battle with Easel vs Carbide Create. Both programs offer a free version with many basic carving capabilities. We'll cover the toolpaths used to cut out a backless business logo using 3/4" MDF. This is a logo for a local Salon.

Oh no! I skipped setting the easel one to cut outside the line 🤦‍♂️

Well you are only human! Could that account for the 5k difference in lines ?

@@JohnColgan. haha, u know I don't like those all entitled names...
I'm just a cnc addict willing to share everything I've learned along the journey 🤪
Side note though. This masuter Z doesn't actually have a antibacklash device 😳 just 2 brass nuts, once worn they'd need to be manually retightened, I thought they were spring loaded like the 3018 is 🤷‍♂️
Which means once the brass wears, it will have backlash/slop 🤦‍♂️

Might have been worth carving both out (maybe on a neutral CNC) and compare carve quality & accuracy?

I use both. Somethings are easier to do in Easel and some are easier in Carbide Create.

I mean I've tried CC a bunch of times and if you're not trying to turn a profit, where the $20 investment for easel doesn't make sense, the CC free version still allows the use of vbits, that said. If there's $20 a month in the budget, easel makes things go a lot faster, I can save at least 4 hours a week using easel vs CC which makes Easel well worth that $20 a month IMO.
