    Great video! For the max depth t+.005 (replace .005 for the cut through depth you want) works well. t="Design" stock thickness and +.0 adds the amount of cut below stock.

    In the first part where you said you didn't like the apply button, it's a feature to where you can see your changes before you click done. This is good for people like me that makes adjustments to be perfect fit. Hitting done and then go back to make changes is a hassle. I hope this makes sense.

    I use Carbide Create and instead of creating two different files I just disable the toolpaths as needed and save different gcode files. Seems excessive to save the workspace file twice.

    • @cyberreefguru
      @cyberreefguru  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Alex - perhaps I was not clear in the video; you don't need two separate CC files - you need to save two separate gcode files if you have different bits. I'll have to re-check the video. Thanks for watching and pointing this out!

    Thanks so much for this! Is there a rule of thumb for the pocket offset based on the bit size such as 1/16 ball nose?

    • @cyberreefguru
      @cyberreefguru  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure what you mean by pocket offset? You mean step over or depth of cut? For finishing pass, something like 8% step over seems to be a good compromise between time and detail. For DOC, 50% of the diameter, so 1/32" (0.03125). Hope that helps - thanks for watching!

  • @ClintonCaraway-CNC
    @ClintonCaraway-CNC 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Why not do a v-carve inlay so you can have all the details? Just a suggestion.

    • @cyberreefguru
      @cyberreefguru  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Excellent suggestion - that would be optimal, but generally those capabilities require paid software or the pro version of the free packages, which was beyond the scope of what I was trying to do with the video. I am planning on a more advanced video when I get the chance, but I have some experimenting to do first :) Thanks for watching.

      Hi Chris -- you can do any vector inlay this way. If you add the text from within CC, you shouldn't have any problem.. To bring text in from an SVG, you should vectorize the text first to ensure it will import properly. Hope this helps -- thanks for watching!

    how to connect with CNC?. it is not mentioned in the video

    • @cyberreefguru
      @cyberreefguru  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Rupendra - I didn't cover the process because it is completely machine dependent and software dependent. For something like the Onefinity, it's super simple. For something like a Shapeoko or X-Carve, it's a little more complicated. For something like a Genmitsu, it's a lot more complicated. If you have a specific machine in mind, I might be able to do a follow up video. Thanks for watching!

  • @michaelmoss-c2r

    Hi, really useful video. I am really just getting started. I watched a maker video (can't remember who's) of a really nice multi inlay cutting board. In that video rather than cut all the way through the material to create the inlay piece, they cut around it leaving a thin layer of stock material (kind of as a relief carving). Is there a way to do in this in Carbide create? I am a teacher and i think it could be a good project.

    • @cyberreefguru
      @cyberreefguru  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Michael -- I believe you are describing the typical end grain inlay process that was first popularized by Vectric. That works very well and you can get some amazing results with it. I think you can get the same outcome with CC, but I'm not sure on the exact process. Certainly I would recommend starting with "simple" inlays first and then moving on to more complicated inlays like those used with Vectric. I will do some research on using CC though. Thanks for watching -- let me know how I can help with your classes. Thanks.

    • @michaelmoss-c2r
      @michaelmoss-c2r ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cyberreefguru Hi, i will definately start simple. In my head it might be a pocket function if the software could see the space between an outer profile and the actual inlay profile required. Hi again,
      I think i have figured it out.... in CC, if you select the outer profile that represents the material size and the profile that becomes the insert. The Pocket function will then remove the space inbetween them. It even works if there are multiple internal profiles.

      The paid version of carbide create can export and save the g code and if you do inlay it has the feature in advanced v carve for inlay the paid version is well worth it most paid software is online based carbide create pro is yours after you buy it and you don't have to design online. And you can save and share the gcode as u wish . But the free version will not let you save g code. I use it for designing drone frames and odds and ends wood work for friends and family. But is a great option to some of the subscription softwares out there. Personally I like it. Takes a while to get the hang of. But have fun making cool things.

    • @cyberreefguru
      @cyberreefguru  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@charlesminney8481 Well, not entirely. CC is offered in both subscription and perpetual license format. The perpetual license is 3x the cost of a subscription, but more importantly, a perpetual license only gets you 1 year of updates. By that mark, it is way less expensive to get the subscription if CC is updated more than once in 3 years (you don't have to buy every update though). Something to consider, eventually the version of your perpetually licensed SW will stop working properly, and then all your designs will be locked out unless you pay for an upgrade at some point. If the software continues to work properly for 2 years after maintenance ends with no blocking defects, the break even point is 3 years. After that, perpetual license is less expensive; before that, subscription is the way to go. It completely comes down to how many updates the SW gets in 3 years and if any new features are "must haves" for you that requires an update. If you are like me, and keep software for 5-10 years praying it will continue to work, then perpetual is a much better deal. But if you want all the new features as they are released, then subscription is your friend. Thanks for watching!
