    Love the videos, been watching since I bought my grandfathers 31' 5 window coupe.
    I just gained possession of my Grandfathers 31 Model A that had been sitting since 1992 (I was 7yrs old at the time) . I recently Got it running all I had to do was buy a new battery ,cleaned and gapped the points and fresh gas. It started right up and idled without even choking it. Of course I checked the fluids before starting.. I was so excited on how well it ran I hopped in it and rode around my yard and country road. All the memories I had riding in it Came rushing in when I drove the car out of the garage and up my driveway. Thanks for all the videos! It has helped tremendously getting to know my 31'.

      That wasn't an Air Maze. it was some homebrew using plastic tubing and rubber hose that was disintegrating. These cars didn't come with air filters, and although I do run air filters on some cars that drive a lot, I don't on cars under construction. I want to see if the carb is dripping or if the float valve isn't working right, etc. Otherwise, it will soak the filter element with gas and BOOM!

    So what have you got against a wireless upper plate in the distributor?I've never had a problem with it. Athena? not bad. At least it starts and ends with the letter A.

    • @ModelA
      @ModelA  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jim. I was wondering when you'd pop in this one! I have been on tours where people with the wireless plates have problems and wind up borrowing my spare distributor to continue. There's around 3-5 amps running through the points when they are closed, and the wireless plates begin to build resistance as the brass and copper oxidizes. A distributor rebuilt the way I did in that video won't ever have that problem.

    Curious. On average what would you say you are paying for a coupe in similar condition like Athena? I had a 1930 about 25 years ago. The prices today are astronomical. Is there a place where you go on line to look? I’m in Bakersfield Ca.

    Hi Paul.. recent sunscriber.. just purchased a "barn find" 30 Model A Pickup.. all original ( I think) it's not ran for ?????? But it turns over but there's no fire
    Would you recommend flushing everything and starting with new fluids everywhere? Is there a need to put droplets of oil in the cylinders? Lots of question for a "Nudge" in cigar language that's a beginner with absolutely no idea what I got myself in to. Lol

    • @ModelA
      @ModelA  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey William, Assuming the oil is full and no water in it, and assuming it is still slippery, I wouldn't change it until it barks off finally. No fire could be anything from the ignition switch to the points, to the coil or condenser. LOTS of variables there. Start by making sure you have voltage at the points with the points held open (some paper works well) and the ignition key ON.

    • @williamcopeland6683

    • @ModelA

      It doesn't hurt, but it probably won't gain you much either. The Model A oiling system is gravity and splash. As long as there is oil in the dipper trays and valve galley, you can spin it all you want. Until the oil pump fails, then disregard everything I just said! Hahaha!!
