Starting a Model A that has been slumbering for a long time is my favorite part of the hobby. One of mine had been in storage for 34 years and started with very little difficulty. I have a saying about them: if you can get a fire going (ignition) and pour a little gas on it (through the intake manifold), something good is bound to happen! The one in question started, idled down smoothly , and then stalled (!) when the carburetor float stuck! That car is now in weekly use.
Before its long time out it was a daily driver to college and work, 30 miles a day YEAR ROUND in Minnesota!

Yes, I saw that vice grip garage video and it led me to you. Now the last 2 days I have binge watched you!
I have become a fan of the old Ford A and modelT. As a young 4 and 5 year old my father home from WWII had a Model A. My mother sold the very small house she had fixed up and had the car waiting for his return. A house for $600 what a bargain! I remember how well it made it dosn the mud road by our farm house. I remember dad cranking it to start it. He told me of taking bacon rind and tying it wrapped around the bottom end of the motor for lubrication. What simple cars they were. In 1971 as a young man not long home from my war, I visited a friend in Winterset, Iowa. We drove to town to see the new cars out , namely Ford Pinto, etc.
There was an old farmer there who still drove an old model T pickup truck from farm to town for groceries, etc. It was his only car I was told. That was impressive. More so than seeing the Pinto etc.

Thank you so much Paul. I just got my first Model A. 1930 Tudor. Top is ripped and needs replacing, unfortunately, the header piece of wood need replacing. While I got it running she pops and sputters. Gas just trickles out. Got new Wix filter, bowl to carb line. SO this series you started will be helping me immensely. I hope you inspect and discuss the wood bows, and their replacement even if yours don't need replacing. Thanks!

Excellent. I learnt a lot that can be directly applied to my two Austin Burnham limousines from 1929. The static timing method is awesome. The flywheels on the Austins are slightly difficult to get at and only have a TDC mark. Now I know how to set the timing at TDC statically. Which for these engines and modern fuel is spot on really. Love your channel. I've been watching your channel every day for the last week. I've working on a 1933 Chevy for several years. It needed wood and lots more. The great thing about the car is it an all metal car. Your show on Fords Has been a great help on my 33. Wish there was someone like you out there who was Chevy Person. I'm 81 years young and 6 different cars. I strongly thinking of selling them all and finding a good 1931 A. It would make my life simpler and I would have a great car that I could work on and drive. Your show has been a real inspiration. Thanks.

Paul, why is it when I view all the videos that have the introductory statement wherein some will ask "This here car has been sitting in the junk yard for a hundred years, Will it crank." or words to that effect. They always do. The only thing is, I am doubtful that no pre-start work has been done before the video gets down to the brass tacks. I can tell you from long experience that in almost all cases the damn thing will not crank. All kinds of work from loosening the crankshaft, to distributor, gas tank and gas lines, carburetor and bat†ry cables. starter, whatever must be done before the stinking thing will ever crank, i.e. run. All the poster's should skip that question. It has lost its meaning and challenge to watch. Has too!
Your videos are clear, no wind noise, no mushy mouth speech, etc. And, a joy to watch. I believe you know your stuff when it comes to a Model A. I'm a subscriber. I'm not a Ford guy but a Chevrolet man for many years now.
BTW: The lady helping getting the car in the building is beautiful. Who could ever subject her to such hard labor? You ain't so handsome by comparison so I must assume she was just someone passing by on the street before being enlisted to help you. If you ever get to know her then you should buy her some diamonds. Big ones.
    Best,
    Charlie
