    I had a 2013 WRX just like you and I loved that car. Traded it in for a M3 and regretted it almost instantly. I now just bought a Pearl Blue STI Limited with no wing and can't wait to throw some bolt-ons on it. Btw, my Recaro seats look almost identical to your standard seats. The limited has the Harmon Kardon audio and in my 2013 WRX the sound system was so bad that in addition to blind spot monitoring and the seats I felt it was worth it.

    Another thing that people don't often think about is the weight the extra amenities bring. I have a base 2015 WRX. It's about 100 pounds lighter then the upper trims

    I originally came here because you got the same catback I just ordered and I've been watching vids on it.
    I totally agree with you on so many points for getting this car. The driving feel is so solid and engaging but yet not uncomfortable, even as a daily. The sound (especially with an aftermarket catback) is just awesome for a 4 cyl. I totally agree on that it sounds like a mini v8, my friend also pretty accurately describes it as a pissed off Bumble Bee xD
    Couple things I wanted to share with you for some clarification though:
    1: The I, S, and S# modes definitely manage boost differently. Try a WOT pull in "I" mode and watch your boost gauge, then do it again in S#, it should be at least a few PSI difference; it definitely was for me. The throttle response is also a noticeable difference between the modes.
    2: The C-Diff control doesn't really send power to the front or back specifically, that's a common misconception as to what that does. For example, you can't specifically send like 80% rear %20 front, that's not what it does at all. It's actually a kind of an obscure feature which is best just explained by referring to your trusty owners manual.
    3: Our 2018s actually have LED headlights now, no more HIDs. Personally I'm fine with that since these OEM LEDs are as good as the outgoing HIDs IMO.
    Lastly, just a suggestion, it would have been nice to hear more of that r400 rumble with some more revs ;). Your video kind of ended abruptly :(

    • @defaultdaniel
      @defaultdaniel  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly! Its one of the most enjoyable sound engines out there in my opinion. I have more sound clips in another vid, linked at the end of this video.

    I paid 2018 base model 37.5 K (just for the car) about 2 months ago that came with sti exhaust, short shifter, clearbra on the front and mirrors, keyless + recaro, trunk carbon trim. I didn't want the sunroof that is the main reason I got base model.

    How many miles on the RX-8? Was it approaching/beyond rebuild time? Have you missed the characteristics of the RX-8 (revving out) or is the low end torque more enjoyable? At the end of 2019, I could not get my dealer to go below 37k on their base STi's (had 2), so I just went base wrx and 'saved' 10k (didn't want a sunroof)

    • @defaultdaniel
      @defaultdaniel  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I really lucked out w my rx-8, it was practically brand new. I think it had less than 10k miles when I sold it, and I got it from an older gentleman who barely drove it. It didn't have that much torque, but revving it out was fun because that's when it got going. Heres an old video I found of it:

    Everything you mentioned as reasons to get the sti over wrx is why im planning on an sti. Just want the lowest cost sti new for the EJ engine which is high chance of not being on the next sti. They hold their value so why get a second hand thrashed with possible issues. But yeh id plan to keep as a family sedan in future lol Only thing is what color to get. Btw which color would you of gotten if you had the choice?

    • @jkljkl218

      Dark metallic grey and black, they dont stand out, and they look absolutely beautiful, my first choice was the dark grey but the dealer couldnt get me one. I have a black one right now and it's a pain keeping it clean but it is gorgeous. (Not kept inside a garage) which is why it always gets dirty.

    I have an 18 Sti with an R400 as well. I had the R400 on my previous 17 wrx and found it very tame. I find it super droney on the highway to the point where I’m almost considering selling it for something quieter, I can’t imagine it when I go catless

      the r400 for the q300 with a resonator delete and it left something to be desired but it made noise when I wanted it to and was quiet on the highway. I now have the ets quiet and think it’s the perfect medium - though it is by no means quiet

    Congrats on the sick car dude! I'm planning on buying one myself in the next 2 months or so! One question, I also don't plan on spending 42,000 on the limited for the extra features, but one I wish I could add is the sound system. I want the STI for the performance and all around practicality, but how are the base model speakers in this car? I'm the type who has to have good sound quality lol. Congrats again!

    • @defaultdaniel
      @defaultdaniel  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks man. I don't think you need to spend the extra buck on the limited with all the extra features. Like I said, I got this car for $36,500. That's as close to limited WRX pricing as it gets. The extra features (push to start, lane warning, parking sensors) aren't worth it in my opinion, except a sunroof. A sunroof would be nice, but not an extra 2-3k nice. Lastly, the stock sound system is nice man. Technology is so advanced in cars these days I don't think I'd even be able to tell between a Harmann Kardon or Bose vs stock. The new interface on the STI has nice equalizer settings and it sounds great TBH.

      I've done a lot of research and it does look it CAN still be an issue, but Subaru has updated a few internal parts / the stock tune to make it less likely.
