You are correct. I lived with one for three years. It was very confusing and took me all that time to work out what was going on. When I confronted her with it she went ballistic. Thankfully it’s over now.
In a perfect world maybe. Sorry but if it was this easy we would all have alleviated the passive aggressive person's behavior already. I am pretty sure we have all already tried this type of approach.

Will not work in reality. A passive-aggressive person will not listen to such talk. The passive-aggressive person will accuse your behavior instead.
