    living with a passive-aggressive person is the most tiring and tedious thing I've ever done. They word situations in a way to make out that they are never the problem, never acknowledge any positive things you do, and use silence as a weapon. I'm a confident person but I realize I spend so much time concerned with 'what did I do wrong' recently. What makes things worse with passive-aggressive people, is that the annoying things they do are small enough to go unnoticed or not worth confronting, but big enough to be somewhat teadious.. Don't ever move in with one!!

    I once chose the straightforward way of resolving conflict but that got me into a bigger problem. What I am trying to say is sometimes being passive aggressive is a good way to send a signal to a person that your mad at without directly letting them know what’s wrong because some people are just very angry and aggressive.

      Thats not passive-aggressive if its in response to a person’s crappy behavior. Passive-aggressive is just like it sounds - a covert, snake in the grass form of attack. If I stop talking to someone because they knowingly, willingly hurt my feelings me not talking to them is not passive-aggressive behavior; it is defence against their toxic behavior.

      If they are showing signs of anger... perhaps your indirect communication is DRIVING THEM NUTS!!
      P.A personalities harbour unresolved anger/resentment... The relationship becomes a war of attrition.
      If you can't engage in dialogue to express your wants/needs/concerns etc, its poor form to covertly take a hostage by entering into a relationship.
      ✌🏻

    • @jameslong289
      @jameslong289 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Saif Bakri I would say that you are correct. I hate when people make it seem like it doesn't have its place. If someone is demeaning, coming at you and you flat out go at their throat, this could seriously escalate things in most cases. Being passive-aggressive can be a blowoff value, get your point across and you can control the situation more by adjusting your responses if it's starting to escalate. It's better than being upfront sometimes (which can potentially cause a fight) or just standing there and taking it which could lead to depression or more aggression. Now obviously it could become problematic if you start doing it to people who don't deserve it like someone who honestly made a mistake for example. So I do think it has its place for a certain situations, especially when dealing with people who lack accountability for their actions, or view you as weak and try to take advantage.

    Passive aggressive can seem like nice people on the surface but given the right situation like stressful life events, work or just in conversation the aggressive nature shows through. I have a friend who is my husband's employer. My husband is on the verge of ending his friendship with him because of his confusing management skills and defensive nature in the workplace. His boss has rants too if he doesn't get his way. My husband was friends with him for 4 years and saw very little of this in social life. It can be hidden in plain sight but triggered in dramatic affects.

    I am passive aggressive but only when close people hurt my feelings. I give them the cold shoulder and don't answer or return their phone calls. I act as if they don't exist but for me to act this way it has to be when someone really hurts my feelings to the point of total humiliation and to shame me. I rather be passive aggressive with toxic people than to go in a 360 spiral and start getting very physical. I rather avoid that breaking point so I close the doors instead sometimes forever.

Am I allowed to ignore them? Because otherwise I would feel manipulated and used. Am I wrong? It's a kind of estranged family member.

      I think youre confusing concepts. If you were constantly passive aggressive in a toxic way they would all strongly dislike you. For example they ask you for money for xyz. You say “we’ll see” knowing youre never going to give them money. They know it, you know it, its a bull s passive-aggressive phrase. Later that day they see you smoking, drinking a 12 pack and doing scratch offs. Thats toxic passive-aggressive. Alternative situation, they ask / you say “we’ll see” (you both know you aint giving them money), later that day they see you paying bills related to the home or school, cutting a check for something important to your wife. This is where i differ from you and some psychologists. Intent always matters. If youre intent is to f with someone you will be disappointed when they dont want to have a relationship with you in adulthood. If your intent is not to spend money on stupid s, they know it, you know it, even though you are using behavior some people would argue constitutes passive-aggressive to me its not.

He’ll never be another passenger of mine again & I didn’t directly tell him why.

    • @PunkMartyr
      @PunkMartyr 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ChadFreeman757 theres absolutely nothing wrong with that. O% wrong. I personally feel psychologist textbooks should be updated with another term. Perhaps Passive-Aggressive Defensive move, where the point is not an attack but to avoid a potentially negative conflict interaction and no toxic or immoral behavior is taking place. Again, intent is the supreme determining factor. In the example you gave you want to protect your daughter, protect yourself from having boundaries violated, it could even be argued you are protecting your coworker’s feelings and ego with the way you handled it. Sorry for coming at you. I would caution you on telling people you believe passive-aggressive behavior is a good thing without full context.
      Passive-aggressive behavior done with ill intent is typically done for the following reasons in my opinion: 1. to bully someone without it being obvious. This is #1 imo. 2. To invalidate another person’s feelings. 3. To paint someone in a negative light with the goal of isolating them and turning the tribe against them 4. To attack them but do it in a way that gives plausible deniability.
      Take the example you used. Similar setup. Coworker in the car says you giving him a ride is going to allow him to be on time more so he can get a promotion you both want. You use that as a reason to stop giving him rides but dont tell him instead not answering the phone when he calls. To help ensure you get the promotion you spread rumors he told you privately and asked you not to repeat. People ask why he can’t be on time why you stopped giving him rides, you tell them he had very bad body odor and you tried to do the right thing and get him to shower but he wouldnt.
      Believe it or not there are people that act this way they usually have narcissistic personality disorder or other very serious problems.

    That's literally what passive agressive IT IS NOT! Passive agressive is ignoring the person issue (by being sympathic) and not wanting to confront with the problem. For example (it has nothing to do with the word agressive):
    - You ask customer service determined problem and they ask rather your ID and name then they pass to another customer in the same line to ask your ID and name, they keep doing that to push you off! Instead of solving the problems (that's also sort of manipulation because they want you to get tired so they can have an excuse to cut you on the phone and privy or make you give up your rights as a customer)
    - Your wife becomes agressive with small behaviours (genereally unconsicous ones), say "it's all Ok", and "there is no problem" when asked but keep doing things wrong, like not putting the trash outside, leeting the food burn, not listening, ignoring.
    - Small insults made unconscious with the intend to provoke the person
    - Generally speaking is ignoring the person needs and not aknowledging them, not communicating perfectly, the problem. (avoiding the problem at all costs, to create more problem)
    There are other terms in Psychology for agressivenes like Transtorn of agressivenes which is related to max level of agressivity. Paranoid, and Psycosisare another ones.

    It's not passive aggressive if you're at a airport and somebody be rude to you because of something they did or something you did that's not passive aggressive it's just like me going to McDonald's and they give me the wrong order or mixed up my order with someone else and I end up being rude to them, or go off on them for that, that's not passive aggressive that's just some plain O being inconsiderate of other people's feelings it's like if you come for me I'll come for you too just because people operate that way don't make them passive aggressive definitely you have the wrong interpretation of what passive aggressive really mean
