- First Mow on the New Lawn After the Renovation / Reel Mowing! In today’s video, I mow the lawn for the very first time since the renovation. I opted to use a manual reel mower for the first few times mowing to limit any potential damage to the new turf. This method is very effective at mitigating any damage to the new grass.

That grass is looking awesome and beautiful. It’s going to be 🔥 when it’s fully established. Awesome work Nathan.
Thanks bud!
Just found and subscribed to your channel. I'm in Seattle and just renovated my front lawn. The seeds were planted two days ago. I hope mine turns out as well as yours did.
Cool. I think we have some warmer weather coming next week it should really help that get started.
Yes sir. Welcome to the manual reel mower club :)
It's temporary...😁
@@PacificNorthwestLawns You say that now lol
@@PacificNorthwestLawnsyou know what they say. Once you go reel you never go back :)
@@Striperman trust me, it's temporary..lol
@@PacificNorthwestLawns It looks great bro. Nice job on the reno
Danggggg!!! Lookin sweet...amazing what that looked like 2 weeks ago!!
I can't wait to see it when it matures
Awesome job!
Thanks Marc👊🏻
Stunning lawn Nathan. Can't wait to watch it fill in further.
I can't wait either honestly...lol
Reno is looking awesome !😍
Thanks Grace! 😁
Awesome update. Grass is looking nice!😎👊 -The Real George Popa
Thanks George 👊🏻
Awesome job. Looks great! Almost ready for Brutus!
He likes to think so...lol
Really enjoying these updates and seeing your lawn progress. That new grass seed is really holding up well.
Wait until you see next season... the front yard is getting done.
Wow, absolutely beautiful!! 👌
Thanks 👍🏻
Man that came in nice! Looks awesome!
Thanks Bud 👊🏻
Looking great! Definitely hard work but once you have nice grass there's no going back to weeds.
Looks awesome! And nice camera too! Super clear video👍🏻
Thanks Chelsea. It's actually my Galaxy S10+ phone. 😁 Hopefully soon I can upgrade to an actual camera.
Looks great man, I live in Lakewood and just renovated my front lawn!!! Keep up the good work.
That's awesome. How did it turn out?
@@PacificNorthwestLawns it's only been 6 days nothing yet
@@jro1560 what type of grass? If it's prg it should pop any day now.
@@PacificNorthwestLawns it's the JB sun and shade PNW blend
@@jro1560 I have no idea what's in that. I assume fescue, rye and maybe kbg. It may be a few more days.
Wow that came in nice!!
That's what she said? 😁
@@PacificNorthwestLawns LOL
Dang Nathan, You did an amazing job 👍🏻. The lawn looks gorgeous. I didn’t see a single weed, Did you have to sharpen the blades? I’m going have to jump on the bandwagon of manual reel mowing for my lawn renovation for the all the reasons you explained. Again, great job!!!
There is some weeds that came up. It's definitely the downside of using topsoil. I did however have far less than I expected. I did not have to sharpen the blades. I bought this thing used and all it needed was cleaned up and the bed knife adjusted. I don't plan on reel mowing all the time. Just long enough for the roots to establish so I can run the Super Recycler without tearing things up.
@@PacificNorthwestLawns hey Nathan I’m rewatching your vids. How many inches wide is that reel mower. I’m looking at FB Marketplace for one.
@@madeyalooklawncare I believe the reel is 20". I'll have to measure it later this afternoon for ya.
@@PacificNorthwestLawns all good no worries. I picked up a 20” from marketplace
Looks amazing !!
Thanks Scott. 👊🏼
I have that same manual reel mower!
It works pretty good. I got it cheap so I figured why not.
I want to actually get one of those next season, I believe they make a cleaner cut and I like the idea to have a short grass! The grass is looking good 😌. I am not yet on the first cut on my backyard
I have no intention to cutting my grass really short. It's just the best thing for a new lawn at this stage.
Looking awesome. Now I'm so anxious to mow but my KBG is at day 12. I have a little while yet.
I can't wait to see how the KBG in this mix fills in.
Well you made me get a manual reel mower and my god my new lawn looks amazing. Thanks for your input, I also never wanted to get one , well, I found a good one on Marketplace and now I enjoy reel mowing!
That's awesome. My intention wasn't to continue to use it. I actually just started using the rotory day before yesterday. However, you're right it does make the lawn look pretty good.
My neighbour wants me to do their lawn next year! I think all you guys out their are helping us all! Cheers
Pacific Northwest Lawns do you know how we could have N-EXT products shipped to Canada?
@@marcmelanie6385 I don't think they can be at this point. Send an email to answers@lawncology.com and ask John if it's a possibility.
Pacific Northwest Lawns thanks a lot really appreciated!
What kind of seed did you put down? Did you do a layer of peat moss over the top? Looks great!
I used the MySoil Premium Double Dark seed and I did use the peat moss. That video was featured on the N-Ext DIY channel th-cam.com/video/wXDBfkRjdi4/w-d-xo.html
Looks GREAT! Lawn looks good and level. You got me thinking about my rotary mower on my overseed/reseed fescue backyard? It is NOwhere near as level as yours. How to u think a manual reel would do on uneven lawn.
I dunno. That was literally my very first time reel mowing my lawn...lol. i would think it would be fine if it's not set too low.
I couldnt hear what you said about measuring the height of cut at 1:10 So how high does it actually cut? I am supposed to buy this push reel off a Grass Goon member.
If I measured it right, it was 2 3/4". The Scott's website says up to 3" but I don't think it was that tall.
@@PacificNorthwestLawns Thanks! Even at 2.75" I could really use this mower all through Fall & Winter.
@@greenuplawnworks2407 I found this one on FB market place for $30. It also included a bagger.
Question what kind of trees along your fence line? as well how wide is the bed they are planted in? And how far off the fence line are they planted. they look really good and want to replicate it
They're arborvitaes. Exactly which I don't know. They were there when I bought the house. I'll measure the other stuff for ya later today. I can tell you they're too close to each other. Spacing is supposed to be 3 feet and they're at 2 feet.
@@PacificNorthwestLawns oh wow that is close! If its too much work don't worry. But this is something I am doing in my yard shortly, and don't want to take out too much grass if I don't have too HAHA!
It's no problem. You aren't the first person to ask so I have no problem doing it. I'll get back to ya this afternoon.
So the trees are spaced 2 ft apart (should be 3) and they're 2 ft off the fence (should be 3) the whole planter is 4 ft wide. Probably should be 6.
@@PacificNorthwestLawns thank you so much for the help on this!!!!
That looks fantastic...how long was from seed to first mow?
20 days and I probably waited a week too long to mow it.
Found your video while searching for "Reel mowing after overseeding". Wow, your grass is looking beautiful !! I'm new to lawn care. I overseeded PRG & KBG mix 15 days ago.. I've been wanting to try a manual reel mower. Although, many youtubers are using a grass catcher with their reel mower on their new grass. I cannot find a reel mower with grass catcher, nor online that ships to my area, or majority of them are sold out or discontinued (X_x). my new grass is still less than 3". KBG are about 1". My existing grass is getting much longer. I'm hesitating to use a heavy rotary mower. Do you think it would be safe to leave grass clipping on my new grass? Thank you,
I left the clippings and it's been fine. As long as you don't have a bunch of clumping with the clippings it should be good.
@@PacificNorthwestLawns Awesome:) Thank you!
Before your first cut after overseed should you let the lawn dry out for 3 to 4 days first?
That would be ideal but here in the PNW it's not always practical
Hi, what do I do if my newly seeded lawn starts to lay over before I can mow?
You can use a leaf blower to lightly stand it back up.
@@PacificNorthwestLawns thanks!
So thick
Justin, you already know how I should respond to this, right? 🤣😂
