  • TikTok Automatically Muted/Removed Copyrighted Music In My Video
    My own music video's audio was muted by TikTok and a copyright claim followed!
    As mentioned in this video, here is the TikTok Counter Notification Form if you need to go that way for any reason: www.tiktok.com/legal/report/c...
    So getting back to it, this is normal and it means that TikTok is doing their job trying to protect creators, but I did find it strange coming from a platform that rewards copycats. lol
    There is a way to get around a video being taken down, changed to private, or muted owing to an audio clip.
    This is a straightforward step-by-step explanation on how to maintain the original sound and in your video.

    I got a copyright strike against an original improvised song of mine. Went to submit the counter claim and tiktok didnt give me a report number or any information I need for the form. All they said was they muted my sound. This makes me not want to share my music having to jump through hoops like this. So pissed off right now.

    • @TieDyeKitty
      @TieDyeKitty  2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Hey, I know your frustration, this is why I used this work around for my own music.
      The problem is that TikTok's systems fingerprint and place their own metadata on any music they acquire from music distributors, so that their systems will recognize the music within any videos, like how TH-cam has Content ID.
      So even if you use your own music edited the way you want, TikTok just sees it as copyrighted music used without permission, so you have to link it with music they already approved to work around the problem.
      Now this may only work for awhile till till TikTok updates something, but do what you can for now.
      Hope this helps, stay safe.

    Had the same problem, but I'm trying to promote my track before a release. I found Tik Tok muted the sound with a 1 minute preview starting from the beginning every time, but I notice they don't block a lot of remixes, dj set etc, and bunch of my other tracks. Anyways I was able to post a shorter snippet, about 25 seconds, of my track starting in the middle of the track. Hopefully it stays that way.

    hey i got a question. I already got a bunch of songs on tik tok that has a lot views and people are asking me to put them on spotify. if I were to put them on spotify would that risk my original videos already being muted? the distributor id use is soundrop. id hate to lose those views, thanks tie dye

    • @TieDyeKitty
      @TieDyeKitty  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Cody, thanks for your question.
      Once you use a distributor to release your music, it will become licensed for use within those platforms that gives you the right to use it more than anyone else, the problem is these platforms dont know who you or that you actually wrote your song.
      So you can either take the safe path and notify them via the Counter Notification Form as soon as you have your official song meta data so that their automated systems don't clamp down on your content.
      Or you take the chance and Leave things the way they are, you will then run the risk of TikTok muting your audio later on.
      If they mute your audio because you dont want to loose your views, you will have to send in the Counter Notification Form, but your audio may be muted for a few weeks for all I know.
      So my advice is to submit the Counter Form the day after I upload, because it will take approx. 3 weeks to a month before your music is released anyway.
      My second piece of advice is to set your release date a minimum of ONE MONTH after upload, in order for it to be available worldwide at the same time.
      Please watch this video: th-cam.com/video/rgKfOT4BPhE/w-d-xo.html

      Hi adress13, yes Tiktok makes it difficult at times, but if the song was recently released, as within the past 30 days, there is a possibility that TikTok has not logged the song into their data base as yet.
      It generally takes 30 days before all songs show up in stores worldwide.

      Yes but TikToks automated systems pick up on copyright issues really fast, so just pay attention to your upload for the first 10 min, most of the time if something needs to happen, this would be the time frame.
      And if you do get a copyright strike or get muted, just delete the video and re upload using this video

    • @TieDyeKitty
      @TieDyeKitty  ปีที่แล้ว

      The problem with free beats is two fold, the first issue is if 10 different people used that beat to record a song, the first one to upload a song with it, that song would become the "Original release" and everyone else that then uploads would get a copyright claim.
      The second problem, when the person that produced the beat decides to monetize that beat a couple months or years after he released it, everyone that used the beat will get a copyright claim.
      So don't ever use free beats.
      It will come to bite you in the butt later on, because you don't own the copyright its toooo risky, the producer of the beat could claim any money your song made if it becomes a hit.

      Hey Cleopatra Leon, this is more of a Music Distribution problem and has nothing to do with copyright, because you said your music was completely removed from TikTok's audio libary.
      one reason is if you used a PAID music distributer for your music, and stopped paying, they automatically remove your music from everywhere.
      In most instances free music distribution is far better.

    • @TieDyeKitty
      @TieDyeKitty  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Charity, so sorry to hear you got muted, but TikTok and all social media platforms use music in some way, and most of that music is copyrighted and one of the ways this copyright is policed is through some sort of audio fingerprinting system, so once new music is uploaded, its compared to what is already protected.
      At this point, if the new audio sound like something already in the system, it will get flagged and then muted until permissions are given.
      In your case, most Crystal Sound Bowls sound the same, so if anyone used one in the beginning of a song perhaps, your audio will get muted.

    • @TieDyeKitty
      @TieDyeKitty  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there Chuuya, once you use something that you did not create without permission, you are in violation.
      Now don't be alarmed by it, but all music online is sort of "finger printed" in order to make sure starving artist like myself can get the $0.0005 every-time someone uses one of our songs as a stream or on a video.
      So music services like TikTok get the permissions needed to supply you the music to use, but they have to encode the version they have so that when someone uses a song they can pay the correct artist, so when you use your own copy from a CD TikTok will stop it.
      The only other reason they will mute the audio is if the audio had profanity in it that went against TikTok's community guidelines.
      Hope this helped, and thanks for a great question!

      HI, well please do not take my reply the wrong way, I am not trying to put you down in any way.
      Even tho you say that you make music for enjoyment and do not promote it, the fact that you are so excited about the song that you want to share it before it is even finished says something.
      It means that you are passionate and want to Share it, that means you want people to hear it, so by making a video is to promote it.
      I would say, finish song, copyright, release and only then make your video.
      Because copyright works like this: if someone takes your song and makes their own version and registerers that song, they will own the copyright.
      They can even take you to court to say that your song infringed on their copyright because you don't have the copyright for your song.
      And if you did have that copyright registration in hand, you could send TikTok a copy as proof that the music is yours also.

      Hi, I feel your pain Reg, I understand where you are coming from and its all for the good of music and a lifestyle.

      But because it also contains the expression or intellectual property of someone else it seems as if you took their popularity to propel yourself into the limelight, so even tho you did not make money, you gained attention or notoriety of of their work.
      At this point it is copyright infringement because you did not get permission from the song's owner to use their music.
      But TIKTOK has already gotten permission from copyright owners to use their music already, but you have to use the audio clips alreay provided on TikTok, so just do the video over but use TikTok's audio for the song.

      Hi Remzel, once the music is your own, that means you already own the copyright and there is no need to try filling out the form in order to try and clear your own music.
      The real problem is understanding the way that TikTok licenses your music for use on the platform, it seems they are only really allowed a maximum of around 30 sec because TikTok was made for short form content.
      This is why its best to just make short videos with the music they provide from your catalog.

    I would absolutely accept this fix as a minor annoyance if they would at least let you add audio from the desktop app. This is incredibly frustrating because the only way I can upload my own music video to TikTok is to create the video on my PC, put it on cloud storage, get on my phone and download it to my phone, then open the TikTok app to upload it and continue with this workaround. That's a ridiculous number of step for what should be a, at max, 2-click process.

    I have a question. Once you select a song from TickToks Playlist (approved music) doesn't that mean you can't pay/promote your video? I understand about turning down the volume but everytime I use ticktoks music (Playlist of songs) then I notice that I can't pay and/or promote my videos to gain more views and followers. Does that make sense? I create my own music but I am getting muted more frequently. So... can you still pay for more views (promote your video) using ticktoks music Playlist and then just turn down the volume?

    • @TieDyeKitty
      @TieDyeKitty  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a great question!
      So let me give you my best educated answer (I could be wrong)
      Your plays on TikTok count as STREAMs, so maybe if you pay to promote, it may be looked upon as Paying for streams, and because of that the system may not allow it coming from your profile.
      As dumb as it might be, that is the only thing I can think of off the top of my head.
      But I now strongly believe that using TikTok to promote an artists music is the wrong way, so I would advise to use the platform to promote the Artists as an Artist, because the music is only one aspect of that person.

    • @TieDyeKitty
      @TieDyeKitty  18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Sorry for the late reply, I understand why you would want to do this, but its not the copyright you need to disable, because copyright is the reason you get paid.
      You are looking for a way to make your music accessible for free, so that people can use it and the music may gain popularity over time.
      This falls under the music recognition software mainly TH-cam Content ID and apps like Shazam.
      To be honest, I do not think there is any way around this, because every song uploaded through a music distributer is put through this sort of software to scan for copyright issues to begin with, otherwise there would be millions of copyright claims clogging up our court systems.
      If you would like people to use your music, you may have to put a notice out asking people to email you to obtain a free licence to use the song, so if they run into any problems, that document will clear them for any future use.

      But what I can say is that even tho someone posted a beat as "Fair use" it only takes one person to use that beat and publish a song with it, at that point that beat is now copyrighted and if you use that beat again, you song will then be flagged.

      Hi Rahim, that could be very very risky for you, so I wont advice it at all because you stand the chance of ending up in court.
      Someone created that song and owns the copyright, even if they have not listed it on the website.
      That maybe someone else found the song, liked it and posted it on their website for the sake of content without the owner even knowing, so if you try to claim, you end up with the headache.
      Another thing to keep in mind, is that many artist post song on websites trying to get exposure, and years later monetize that same song.
      My point is, for your own safety, just don't ever use "Free Music" cause it never really is free.

      Hey there, TikTok promotes copying of everything, if you make content that uses other people’s ideas you will get far on TikTok, but you still need to play their game by their rules.
      So you need to get your music registered on their platform your music with a music distributor (once it is recorded and mixed as pro as you can afford) and they will send your music to TikTok and collect the royalties for you. That’s what I did in this case with my own music.
