I upgraded two years ago from the rc3 to rc300, I would have loved the chance to have the rc5 then, but hay ho. Ps I still love the rc300. Need a lot more to learn more with the settings though!!! Great stuff Ben, keep it coming.👍 Al.
I’ve owned loop pedals before but never got along with them. Might try out this new generation though. Worth mentioning that the RC-5 can load audio files through USB so that kinda takes over the role of the old aux in on the RC-3
I've got the RC-300 and the rhythm tracks on that are very disappointing: little more than a glorified metronome. I really hope that Boss focus on that this time or they will be leaving a lot of money on the table for the likes of Beat Buddy,
The count of mesure IS more easy on rc3 because one presse on pedal... The unpossibility to slave one pedal to one master for a group IS needed too. Thks
How can you integrate that Boss RC5 (mini midi connection) with an older Boss Drum Machine with the Old-style (large circular) MIDI connection? I want to use RC-5 with a BOSS Dr.880.
Had an RC-3 but wasn’t happy with the sound quality. 32 bit in the RC-5 looks to be a huge improvement. Plus, all those extra features in a Boss pedal footprint. I’ll probably wait to see how it shakes out, though. Thanks for the review.
Great vid! Does anyone know for sure if you can use the dial to select an exact tempo, like 120bpm etc? Or do you have to use the tap tempo like in the RC-3? I use the drum features in the RC-3 a lot, but you have to tap the tempo in though.
Does anyone know if there are different routing options for the rhythm? The RC10R had an option for you to route the guitar to one output and the rhythm to the other. I’m really hoping the RC5 can do this too but I can’t find that information anywhere.
The RC-500 has a Micro-USB Port. Most likely the performance of the port is still identical. I would actually prefer a Type B port over Micro-USB. It tends to be more mechanically robust than Micro-USB. But I also would prefer Type C over B because it's also more robust and is more convenient due to being far less obscure.
You are completely right about the USB port on the RC-500. USB-C would be preferred but most people think and also Ben that when the physical connector is USB-C everything is faster but this is mostly not the case. I have an audio interface with USB-C but the speed is USB 2.0 but this more than enough for 4 in and 4 out.
Hello, I have RC-3 and I use drum machine Alesis SR-16 into Aux In while playing on guitar. Could I communicate this drum machine through MIDI with RC-5 to get the same layout during playing the guitar?
Hi, with my rc-300 i can change the tempo on my loops by just pushing the tap tempo button and then using a knob. Would I be able to do the same with these pedals?
I wonder if you can link multiple RC-1 loopers together and use them in real time? Maybe throw in an external switch to command them all to start/stop at the same time. Is this possible?
Hi, in this A/B section there is some fills to change from A to B or does it go straight ahead. I mean like in the Rc10R there is some fills in the rhythm that helps to come back to A or go to B. Thanks .
Hi, i need help with my RC 5... Why does the tempo change by itself without me touching it when a loop or a new layer ends? Example I put my tempo at 85 I make my loop on this same tempo I go in overdub I start a new layer and there when I finish it the tempo changed all alone for example in 87.5 or less or more... I do not understand... is there a setting so that the tempo does not move? An explanation? Maybe an issue with the rc 5 that is not working?
Sorry, I'm Italian so I dont understood very well. I want a pedal with "aux in" to connect my smartphone and play backing tracks. So which loop pedal should I buy?
Great job Ben. I recently purchased the RC-3 and just purchased the RC-5 a couple of days ago. I'll return one of the units to the music store. Unfortunately the instructions on the RC-5 are really vague; i.e. words on the LED panel are abbreviated and I have no clue what mean. The machine has tons of functions, but the manual has very little instructions on how to actually use these functions. For an example basic functions like, locating the different drum kits and patterns? How are loops saved? I mainly purchased the loopers for the drum functions, yet they are hard to locate. I reviewed about 20 TH-cam videos for the RC-3 to be able to finally use it, however, the RC-5 is so new and complicated that it might be returned, if I can't figure out how to use it. Any assistance you can give on the actual use of the RC-5 would be most appreciated. I tried to contact the Boss support team but apparently they are shut down due to the Covid virus. Thanks!
@@williamrdawsonphotography Thanks for your reply. That's the same instructions that came with the RC-5, which is really vague. "Reid's Reviews" did a TH-cam review on the RC-3 a few months ago, which was excellent and he stated that he just ordered the RC-5 and will do an in-depth review on it as well. Hopefully this will be done soon, as I'm still lost most of the time when I try to use the RC-5.
Hey Gary! When I get my hands on one I shall do some RC-5 tutorials! They are currently not in stock anywhere in the UK I don't think. So keep a look out for them when they are uploaded.
@@BenRowlandsMusic Thanks Ben I look forward to your review. I purchased my RC-5 from Sweetwater Music, Fort Wayne, IN, - Sweetwater.com. My account representative is Anthony Giraldi. He'll take good care of you.
Big improvement in the sound quality at 32 bit in the 5. Naming the songs, record time, high quality of overdubs, no loss of fidelity. Oh yeah, the screen, very nice and 1shot, which allows you to start and stop a song with one press. Cannot overdub in that mode though so developing a song in a DAW and loading it in the 5 as a 1shot might work. Still have not figured out how to record in Reaper and get it into the RC-5. Looks like it might be through the Boss Tone Studio and saved at 32 bit and 44100. Any help with that? Maybe a new how to video?
The USB type B usage is to do with power input restriction. It's the USB format that's strictly for data transfer with no charging capability. So it's being used because USB C would require a built in battery (when this uses replaceable 9v instead) or no in-built battery and a strictly mains supply system (a studio/ desktop setup that wouldn't be portable) In this instance, blame USB protocol rather than Boss being cheap. (If USB C + an in-built rechargeable battery were used, we'd get convenience but at the cost of longevity since those batteries degrade severely within a couple of years and customers would have a bricked pedal or a DIY tech repair mission including a hunt for obscure Chinese cells + connectors).
Hi Ben, great video, love your channel. I have the boss 505, after using the RC-1. It’s fantastic. I use the 505 with piano, violin, Wavedrum and guitar. I’m thinking of using the RC-5 as an extra loop channel to connect the the 505 and to use it to start the first loop as well. 🙏🏻 I’m still trying to set up the FS-6 to use with the 505.. nightmare! 🤣
57 grooves for who? no blues, no backbeat, no rockabilly , no swing and no 2/4 uptempo country. I love Boss products, but why not include the basics before expanding on crap.
I would like to ask if the feature presented in this video th-cam.com/video/th8nfSRgCCc/w-d-xo.html for RC 3 is present also in RC5. Meaning if you have a loop track already and press the rhytm button will automatically follow your track? Do you Ben or anyone know if the answer is yes?
You forgot the new separate loop feature on RC-5 which allows you to pair a short loop with a longer loop jam..... in other words You could do a 12 Bar blues and do three different solos over that 12 bars totaling 36 bars etc...
could you explain why rc 5 and rc3 can automatically recognize and start rhythm over player guitar loop and the rc 10 can't do it.. it limits rc 10 in all way. I bought rc 10 and now I am thinking about switching because of this. see video about issues with rc 10.. do you think boss will do something in a update.? thanks for great videos and your job.
I bought a RC10R, and ended up swapping it back for a RC3. Now I thinking of upgrading to this. The customisable options of the external Footswitch alone make it worth the extra money for me. Drum on/off and instant undo/redo. That’s what the RC3 was lacking. Plus accurate BPM tempos. This looks like everything I always wanted the 3 to be!

Neither of them is worth it. I got the RC 3. You cannot use the recordings because it's just a single wave file from each bank. And the drum patterns are a joke. I use a drum machine via aux into the amp instead. They are overpriced toys. Period. Edit:looping is boring as hell. Use a DAW instead to arrange your bars.

Love my rc-3 because I can plug my keyboard into the aux port and my mixer into the keyboard and get everything into the loop. Thanks for sharing !

A really interesting feature of the RC-5 that I've not seen mentioned anywhere is: you can link 2 RC-5's together with a MIDI cable and sync them.
What you will get syncing them together? Wondering how you can use this option for?
Sort of defies logic. 2 are more expensive than one of bosses multi track, multi button loopers.
Well done man great video! The quality of the video and editing is amazing as well.
Thank you very much!! Glad you enjoyed the video!

You can load audio files into the RC-3 over USB as well.
Unfortunately RC-5 only accepts .wav files, and not all of them. It makes loading audio files cumbersome.
I wanted to buy the 5 but ended up winning one in a draw!!! so I decided to sell my RC-3! and bought a Boss OC-5! I’m happy :)
