    The biggest feature for me that nobody seems to really mention is how the 99 presets allows you to do your main loops at home on Monday afternoon & save them. Then they are ready to go & you don't have the PRESSURE of nailing a good loop in the middle of a song DURING a PERFORMANCE. Unless you do live looping on the fly, which is a bit different, I only use it for a basic backing rhythm behind a few leads for our acoustic show. I LOVE the RC-5! It has made my life much more stress-free! :)

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That’s a really great shout and for those who use like you do, the 32bit quality and 99 memory patches are a god send.
      Add an external pedal to that RC-5 and you can do some even more awesome things with it.
      I do loop love but I also do gigs that are covers and with the record time and bank saving, I’m looking into changing how I do some songs so I can just enjoy playing and the performance instead of stressing out about building a track every time. 👍🏻

      Hello Truong 👋
      To adjust the volume of the rhythm, first long press on the Rhythm ON/OFF button and then you will see the rhythm menu.
      The first option is Level, which you can then use the control knob at the top right to click and change the value.
      Hope this helps.

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Graham, had to do a bit of digging on this but the short answer is yes. it will receive midi key notes from a keyboard just like an external pedal and you can turn them into messages to control the RC-5, like a pedalboard. hope that helps.

    JP question for you. Lets say you wanted to save a swing beat on Preset one, and no actual loop. Will you be able to go back to that Preset and use the function where the RC500 follows your tempo? Meaning the tempo will automatically change? I know that function is on this machine but not sure how it applies to saved loops.
    Basically want to set up some presets with different beats and control the tempo with the loop so I can play any song with a swing beat (for example) using preset one , and adjust tempo accordingly.

    Hiya! Takes so much time to figure out a new loop station!! Thank you for your help. I'm afraid the answer is no as I haven't found it anywhere, but is it possible to delete a loop without it playing back for a second? I want to delete it in silence, this was possible on the very old RC-20XL looper...

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes you can. There is more than one way to do this. Simply, if your not saving that loop to the memory, then just temporarily change memories and it’s gone. Very useful to have a fs-6 or fs-7 pedal for this.
      Additionally there is a clear option where you don’t hear the audio but again that is assigning a pedal to do so. Or get an expression pedal to control the volume of the loops and just pull the volume down as you clear.
      A few different ways to do it.
      Hope this helps.

    Hi JP. Firstly thanks for the advice on the Boss pedals. As a long time user of the Beatbuddy pedal for gigs I'm loving the idea of 99 presets as I don't do on the fly looping. Could you tell me if the RC -5 or RC-500 works with the BB to include fills intros and outros? Thanks again.

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Steven 👋
      I know that the RC-5/500 will send and receive midi and click sync, so you could set up each memory with the correct settings including the bpm and then the beat buddy should follow along.
      Regarding fills intros and outros, they both have their own rhythm section and On a basic level you should be able to click the beat buddy as you always have and it will change.
      The RC5 is a single track looper and the RC500 is a 2 track so with the 500 you can have it in single mode which is like verse and chorus.
      Unsure if you could click the beat buddy and it would automatically switch over - maybe with midi 🤔
      Please let me know if that’s what you mean?
      My best advice is grab one from my link and then you always have a great returns policy if it doesn’t do what you want. 👍🏻

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK

      I would genuinely go for the rc500.
      Reason is because it is a huge improvement on the 30.
      That third button on the track select makes all the difference and the fact that you can save your loops and rhythm per preset is such a time saver.
      You will get the advantages of 32-bit audio and although the RC 30 is really good, you will quickly find its limitations and the reasons why Boss has made this new pedal.

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK

      So this is a yes and a no.. No, its not part of the loops in the sense that its not recorded on loop 1 or 2 however this time round, each rhythm is saved (kind of like a loop 3) with the kit and rhythm to each memory. So with the RC-5 and RC-500 its kind of a yes.

    Hi everyone! I have an issue with RC-5 & Rc-505. When using the loopers as midi clock slave devices, synced to Maschine software, there are glitches / artefacts all over the place. BOSS recommends to turn Tempo Sync off for each track to avoid those issues, but this led to another issue (tracks start / skip bars / stop randomly). SO that was not a solution. I have contacted BOSS about this, they said they tested it with Ableton and it works fine, but in general their loopers dont like to be slaved. However, no matter how i put the MIDI settings on the looper, nothing helps. Is this also the case with RC-500?

    Is there anything like ditto + (to electronic) “dynamic loop length” on the rc 5 (or the rc10r?)
    On the ditto plus you can record your 4 bar loop then dub a solo over it for 16 bars and your total loop will now be 16 bars rather than the original 4. If the rc5 can do this it would be amazing!! 😄

    Here is the question I need answered. My trio has been using the Digitech stereo looper and we have created about 50 percussion tracks on that device. I also have these 16 bit 44.1 WAV files backed up on my computer. We have switched to creating percussion loops (usually one measure), in Presonus Studio One 5. I am very dissatisfied with the Digtech software (which has not been updated for years) because it will not recognize the SO loops for transfer to a memory location on the looper. I need to be able to copy these phrases over to the RC-5 and have each one assigned to a specific memory location so f I need a specific loop, say a bossa nova rhythm, I can go to that specific location ex. loop # 15, and activate that loop while we play.
    This is probably not the typical purpose of a looper but it works really well for us. 99 memory locations will give us more space than we need and loop length is not a consideration. We just need to be able to bring up a specific phrase and have it loop as we play. Can that be done with this device thru the USB connection and is there software that comes with the RC-5 that allows that transfer from computer to the device. Thanks.

      Hey John.
      Sorry, I’m not a full time TH-camr and still have a day job so im not on here every day.
      So.. to answer your question - yes.. you can do exactly that. Have each beat on each memory so you can go to a memory (or phrase) and it will be there.
      Have a look at page 16 of the manual here - static.roland.com/assets/media/pdf/RC-5_reference_eng01_W.pdf
      It uses the software called BOSS TONE STUDIO where you can put each sample on each memory.
      A little bit of setting up but you can give each one a name which is super helpful instead of remembering numbers. 👍🏻
      Also, there is nothing to stop you looping on top of the phrase live - say you want to add some real live claps on top of the beat you have - you can overdub 👍🏻
      Really hope that helps you bud 👍🏻

    how do you compare the rc500 TO THE LOOPERBOARD

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That’s a really difficult question.
      Firstly The Looperboard is a HUGE device, physically and in features.. with 4 stereo loops, almost unlimited routing, multi fx, backing track capability and much much more!
      It’s not fair to the RC500 to compare it.The Looperboard is better IMO but that’s because it is in a very elite league with only the Aeros Loop Studio for competition.. but that’s reflexive of the price!
      The RC-500 is the best 2 track looper Boss have brought out and a CLEAR successor to the RC-30.

    What about "serial" and "sync" mode, like on the DITTO X4?...you know, having two very seperate / different parts, or on the other hand, having them play together at the same time?...and can you, say, record 4 bars on part one and 8 bars on part two?...and what about "time signature"?...how deep can you with it on those units?...really would like to be able to have different time signatures for each part!!...

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      - Serial and sync modes - yes you can and saves per memory
      - Different bar lengths - yes you can
      - Different time signatures - yes it has.
      So... yes, yes & yes. 😉
      And each of these can be different and saved per memory. 👍🏻

    When you import your loop into your computer, does it come out as one single wave? It would be nice if each layer had its own wave. The Korg Kaossilator 2S is the only looper that I have seen that creates a wave for each layer. This would be extremely useful to import into a DAW for further editing. This could be used to clean things up or simply expand your ideas. What are your thoughts?
    No one is making TH-cam videos on how to use the USB into your DAW. Alex Hutchins mentions it in his review of the RC-5 but there is nothing else about this feature. Maybe this would be something you could make a overview video on. We don't need step by step instructions but it would be nice to know what you can do with it live and importing into a DAW.
    Cheers
