This pedal is also great for 1shot backing tracks. Record the entire loop in 32 bit, get the extension pedal and one press gives you great sound in stereo if you want at high resolution. Easy to use looper. Don’t forget to manually save your recordings. It has lots of features over the 3, worth the upgrade.
Hey man I have a question, with the RC 500. If you MIDI sync to Ableton or any other stand-alone device, can you make the rc 500 the master clock? meaning, if I tap tempo on the RC 500 will it adjust the tempo in Ableton? Also, if the RC 500 is the master, will Ableton stop when I hit stop on the Looper. Meaning; I would want the RC 500 to be the master controller for the tempo / start: stop: in ABLETON with the pedal. Is this possible?
@@TadJennings it should work with hardware devices that have MIDI IN, yes. :) I am not sure if Midi to USB cable will work though. Alternatively you can use an external sound card with midi in/out ports and assign those in your DAW.
I've owned two boss rc5, 1 rc10r and a 500 model.,. Only the second unit (purchased used) has a serious issue with the rhythm track being insanely loud. Do you know of a global setting that would address this issue?
After owning one for 3 days it’s much more complex than the RC-3 which I sold to buy this one. It takes a bit of getting used to but the sound quality is superb and the 57 Grooves are what I was always dreaming of when using the older model!
Hi, a quick question. Are the drums on the RC-5 stereo? If I input a guitar , and output 2 cables to my mixer, would I get a stereo? Or is everything summed to mono if the input is a mono signal?
I use a Mission 529i rechargeable power supply. This powers the RC-5 and a BOSS ME 80. I get at least 3 hours between charge. I also have a 10000 Li back up battery (which) is incredibly cheap)if needed. The other advantage of this set up is I don't have to use an AC supply of unknown quality and hence means low noise.
Can you show how to hoop it up to a GT-1000 Effects Loop in Stereo. GT-1000 has XLR outputs that I would like to use, but RC-5 only has 1/4 inch outs. Thoughts on hooking it up to the Effects Loop?
Hi Ben, thanks for the review ! What about the time signature in RC-5 ? Is it possible to choose 3/4 or 6/8 as well? There are great songs in Waltz-Time 3/4 or Blues-Ballads in 6/8 and I love playing them ! I have bought an RC-10R and I`ll give it back because it doesn't have an application to change the rhythm from 4/4 to 3/4 or 6/8.
Have you heard of a Waza Craft version of this? I’m looking at getting one and found one that’s Waza. I can’t find anything about them and the one I’m looking at buying does not say Waza Craft anywhere on it that I can see. The description says Waza Craft. Thanks for the review!
I just got one but it may be faulty? The looper is very loud and with my guitar full on it is barely audible over the looper. The "Loop Level" doesn't make any difference from zero to 100. Shouldn't that be the way to turn down the looper volume?
But one thing I don’t like is that I filled all 99 memory slots and I backed all of them up so now I’d Love to be able to take all my favorite loops out of those first 99 and put them back on the rc 5, but I just want a few of them back on my rc 5, The problem that I am having is that i am not able to pull tracks individually with the data for that track, as in there is not one data file per track and all the data (tempo, drum track, levels, settings etc……) for each track are contained in the same file, so I can’t take a loop so basically if I want all those settings back I’d have to put all 99 loops back on the pedal and I have tried just taking the wave files out, and it will cause the pedal to glitch out when you go to record on an empty track because it still has that data file on the pedal witch is telling the pedal that there is a track there but it gets confused because there is no wave file so when you hit record it will get stuck on record, this is kinda very unintuitive and a really ass backwards way to go about being able to back up tracks, this complicated problem has a very simple solution, and it wouldn’t be a problem if each track had its own individual data file in the same or different folder of the track, so idk what to do other than just to back up every 99 loops. Maybe it can be fixed in a firmware update, also they need to add a global drum level setting because 100 is too high for a default level at least for me it is, of course I could change it each time I’m on a different slot but it would be really convenient if we were able to set a default level, I’m hoping for a big firmware update in the future because they still have some bugs to workout.
Hi, i have an issue here, When i stop the loop with a double tap, then i clear the track holding the pedal down. At this moment, the loop plays for sec and then only gets cleared. I suppose it should not sound or start the loop at the proccess of clearing the track, is this the pedal fault or is it just me?
Hi. Thanks for the great videos! Question: I have the rc5 with fs7. I have it set up so I can record guitar loop with rythum and turn off and on again as rythum is going. Problem is I need to use midi to turn off the rythum pattern instead of reaching to turn off with my finger. Can I use a midi/volume pedal? Will it turn down rythum volume and keep guitar volume on? Hope you understand my problem. I've seen another TH-cam video where he uses a disaster area 2 switch mini midi pedal but you have to hold down switch to stop the rythum. Thanks
hey, i want to use something to record a my rhythm track on, loop that, then play lead guitar over the top in a separate amp. can the RC-5 do this? is it possible to record a loop, then output the loop to amp 1, while I play in a separate amp 2 - I see their are 2 outputs?
Does anybody know if you can change the tempo of a playback loop? After you record something, can you change the tempo? I tried and it has a funny sound to it
I know you mentioned concerns about midi routing, how about routing the drum audio to output B? Is this possible? I’d like to have that run to a PA rather than the guitar amp
I got the RC5 and I mostly like it but I can't figure out a way to do an extended loop. I want to be able to record my own 1 bar percussive track and then do a longer loop on top of that, but I seem to be limited to the length of the first loop. Is there any way around this? I'm thinking of getting a smaller looper to put in front of the RC5 for this, or just getting a different looper entirely. Do you have any advice Ben Rowlands?
Great video Ben, very helpful. I've recently bought a RC-5 as I wasn't sure about the RC-500 and its functionality,,, If I midi my RC-5 out of a RC-500 does it properly make a third loop and work fine with no issues etc,,,??? I've seen you do this on your demo very briefly but have you checked that everything works OK and is functional? Thanks Matty from OZ
Make sure your loop pedal is at the end of your pedal effects chain, you want it after your distortion and delays. If your using your amp distortion you would have to put the looper in the effects loop.
In this demo you started the Looper with your guitar riff and the Drum Beat was already there. So you pre selected the Drum beat? In other vids I have seen someone lay down the riff first with NO drums. The they pushed the drum button and the drums follwed his loop rhythm perfectly. It won't do that for me.
Take a look at the Rhythm Start Modes. Found in the Rhythm Settings. You can change how it responds to the Looper Pedal Press there! Hope this helps you!

Good review (thanks!) but doing all this stuff - esp the drumkit stuff - on the janky little UI is pretty weak compared to what I can do with a Beat Buddy for example -- there's an App for That™ (in the case of the BB)
FYI it won’t sync as a slave to a Beatbuddy, there’s no way around that. You can’t send drums out one and guitar out the other out. Otherwise excellent.
Once you have a loop recorded in one of the 99 memory locations, can you change the tempo (bpm) prior to start? If so, is the sound distorted?. The rc-50 can change bpm in a pre-recorded loop, but the result is not so good in most cases, no matter how far bpms from original are. With or without drum pattern.
