I mean there's Labyrinth Zone and the Finalhazard if either counts. I've had an idea for a while where Sonic takes on a colossal Egg Robo and beats him by jumping inside and doing a stupid-hard platforming section to hit its 'heart'. Sorta like the Void Termina fight from Kirby Star Allies.
@@patrickcross1571 Labyrinth Zone's boss is at the end part of Act 3, not the whole Act 3, and you don't need to hit Egghead 8 times to win, only reach to the top.
Maybe the whole stage could be the final boss if sonic didn’t stop eggman and eggman built the robot and piloted it and sonic would have to destroy all of the sections and finally getting to eggman because if titanic monarch was as big as a stage and that was how big his robot was so maybe

Maybe it's possible that the Phantom Egg is unstable and dangerous to be used by anyone and everyone, but Robotnik wants Sonic out of his life so much to the point where he starts taking serious risks that could eventually lead to his own death and not Sonic's. Who knows, really. This song has a choir similar to Ruby Delusions. Fitting, since you're just fighting Eggman again only more power hungry and crazy. This insanity can be proven by the villainous laugh at the end of the song right here 1:05. Notice how deeper the laugh gets as it progresses. There is a small reference to "Big Arms" from Sonic the Hedgehog 3 that can be heard right here 0:27. A little reminder to tell you that this is indeed the "final battle" and that you should take it more seriously than the other bosses you've faced so far. The time signature for this song is 6/8 and not 4/4 like the majority of the other songs in the game, to give the song a feeling of royalty. Since, when Eggman kills Sonic once and for all, he can finally rule the world with no one to stop him. What's fascinating is that the only other song that's written in 6/8 is Press Garden Zone Act 1. There is also a sample from the Apollo 11 launch. It can be heard right here 0:20 where the guy says "Astronauts report it feels good. T-minus 5 seconds. 4, 3, 2, 1" but Tee Lopes cut out the 1st syllable so that instead of "Astronauts" you would get "-stronauts". This song has an instrument found in Fl Studio in a VST called "Korg M1" known as the "Brass of Power". It can be heard in a lot of Sonic Mania songs. To me, when a game's soundtrack uses the same instrument(s) in every song, it gives both the soundtrack and the game a certain "style" (so to speak) making both the soundtrack and the franchise more distinct. Take TMNT IV: Turtles in Time on the SNES for example, it used orchestra hits in every single song. So if another game were to use orchestra hits in every single song, then that would just ruin the whole vibe that Turtles in Time was going for. The same can be said about Sonic Mania. If another game came and used Brass of Power in every song, then Sonic Mania's soundtrack would lose its vibe. So it's great that Tee Lopes used it in this song. Conclusion, I love the music in the Sonic the Hedgehog series so much to the point where I start typing these really long comments describing these songs in such detail. I have no life.

Throughout the game, Robotnik has been continually losing his sanity. And it is here that his mental decline reaches its peak. At this point, Robotnik does not even CARE how much damage he does to the world anymore. All he cares about is defeating Sonic once and for all.

one of the only ways i feel this could have been even more insane, is if during the opening alarms, the screen edges vibrate, and at 0:06 you hear a *Ka-Thump!* from sonic 3, which continues every 6 seconds (meaning this thing is MOBILE)
I love the difference between the 2 Eggman themes. "Ruby Delusions" kind of says "I've found a new weapon to destroy you with, Sonic! You'll never defeat me!" And this theme, "Ruby Illusions," really brings out how the Phantom Ruby has taken over Eggman and just ignoring all the warning signs, the sirens and the constant "5, 4, 3, 2, 1" of a bomb detonating and Titanic Monarch blowing up. He's just so committed to using this new weapon to finally kill Sonic, but it just eventually leads him to his downfall. And don't even get me STARTED on Egg Reverie. Eggman was literally defeated using his OWN WEAPON. The Phantom Ruby literally corrupted him so bad that he ignored everything, and just focused on Sonic. But then Heavy King comes in, takes the Ruby for himself, and just leaves hoping nothing'll happen and he can just take it. AND THEN FUCKING EGGMAN COMES THE HELL BACK, LIKE??? This weapon has caused his amazing invention to its doom, but he repairs it and brings it back (as you can see by the bandages on his machine) to attempt to get the same thing that literally caused his downfall. And he's so committed to it, he basically attempts to kill Heavy King in order to take it back. He once relied on him to take down Sonic, and now he's fighting him for the Ruby. God, what an amazing game.

It's hardly the first time Robotnik has had an insane laugh, even in the classic era... He's *always* been a mad genius. Listen to the intro of the JP version of Sonic CD's boss theme. You hear an almost identical laugh. And even if you can't hear him, he's always laughed during boss fights especially when he hits Sonic.

Pretty intense, yet epic, boss theme right here! Makes you wonder if Eggman went insane with how many times he lost to Sonic and only wanted ONE victory, to the point he risks killing himself in the heart of a base likely nearing destruction or royally screwing up with the Phantom Ruby. But if there's one thing that's certain, it's fitting for a boss fight that's actually pretty challenging. I might prefer the true final boss design-wise, but this theme kicks MASSIVE ASS!

You hear alarms “Get out of there before the ceiling falls, T minus 5 seconds, 4 3 2 1-1-1-1”. Everything around you begins to explode, the city is crumbling down. Let that sink in.
I think of this as more of the Phantom Ruby theme. Fit's it really well. A unknow gem of unspeakable power and the descent into madness as the power goes to your head.

This theme is too perfect. The perfect representation of how twisted and insane Robotnik is after all these years of defeat. He would risk losing everything, even his own life, just to see the blue hedgehog Sonic die before his eyes. With the Phantom Ruby in his hands, he does not care about the Chaos Emeralds anymore. More power hungry then ever, he would go ALL OUT with the Ruby to his advantage only to turn Sonic into a blue jelly, inside or outside the Titanic Monarch. Little did Robotnik know however, that his overconfidence would ultimately lead to his undoing.
It’s poetic. Surely if you’ve read any other comment, you would know. The focus, the pure insanity of the Egg wanting to finally FINISH OFF SONIC. He stops at nothing, which seals his own fate. Truly a great boss fight. You feel this energy without ANY dialogue. If only Sonic Forces could be so good.
I know the "Sonic is for babies, keep it that way!" Crowd wouldn't agree with me on this, but: I for one like the dark and demented implications of this track, and a couple others in Mania. It reminds me of the US boss track from Sonic CD, which I for one consider one of my favorite boss themes.
Fun fact that laugh You hear was originally planned for sonic cd but instead of them adding it they added it as an Easter egg if you listen to the beginning and then you go back to the old big creepy song sonic cd it’s basically the same song but in a remix
I've heard people say this final boss theme is infinitely better than sonic forces final boss theme. I personally think they are equal, because they both fit the circumstances of the story they belong to. On one hand, you have sonic mania, where eggman has acquired his strongest tool yet and is throwing everything at you at full steam. So the more sinister theme definitely works here. On the other hand, you have sonic forces, where after being beaten back by the eggman empire for ages, the resistance are finally ready to take the good doctor down, so the theme fits the theme of "Finally time for some upbeat, heroic, hedgehog themed payback. (You can still say this is better than forces all you want, this is just my take)
I am worrying about eggman what if something happened to him after encore mode ending it showed as that the ruby got him while sonic'n friends escaped with their super forms. Eggman really went crazy in that one
I love how sonic mania is the physical embodiment of "oh, just a little guy!" "oh- he's kinda fucked up actually", like 90% of it is fun romp through a goofy world, goin' fast, simply vibin, havin a good time. The other 10% is themes of manic obsession and madness. And I love it so much.
IMO this is 100% the best final boss theme in any sonic game so far, it just gives of the vibe that robotnik was not messing around, he wants sonic dead more then anything
Eggman at the peak of insanity... Under the Phantom Ruby's illusions. After the Ruby's interaction with the chaos emeralds, a wormhole appears as we see. Perhaps the world in Sonic Forces was just a vision showing what kind of illusions Eggman was looking to have. My theory could go deeper 🤔
I like how this portrays Robotnik's mental state throughout this game. All these attempts at trying to defeat Sonic, but he failed, and failed every time. The final boss really goes to show that Robotnik completely lost it. At this point with the Phantom Ruby in his hands, he doesn't even care that he might kill himself in the heart of the Titanic Monarch, he just wants Sonic DEAD.
Robotnik asks himself “Wow. Will I really get that crazy?” and right here that answers his question. Yes. Right here he has been driven straight into insanity by Sonic. He just wants him *gone.* Out of this world forever.
Still one of the best Sonic final boss themes after the few short years it's been out! I remember letting my imagination run wild when I listened to this originally. I even said on a previous version of this extension that the intensity of this song caused me to imagine a scenario where an insane Eggman is about to kill Sonic's friends, which then causes Sonic's rage to kick into overdrive and the two engage in the ultimate battle to take each other out. I was so excited thinking about it, I recommended that someone should animate it. Hasn't happened yet, but alas, it's still a fun fantasy I associate with this theme!

The beginning really illustrates the warning of fully using the phantom ruby's power. Then it goes onto illustrating the fact that Eggman isn't afraid to destroy reality just to kill this stupid blue rat.

It's hardly the first time Robotnik has had an insane laugh, even in the classic era... He's *always* been a mad genius. Listen to the intro of the JP version of Sonic CD's boss theme. You hear an almost identical laugh. And even if you can't hear him, he's always laughed during boss fights especially when he hits Sonic.

Pretty intense, yet epic, boss theme right here! Makes you wonder if Eggman went insane with how many times he lost to Sonic and only wanted ONE victory, to the point he risks killing himself in the heart of a base likely nearing destruction or royally screwing up with the Phantom Ruby.
But if there's one thing that's certain, it's fitting for a boss fight that's actually pretty challenging. I might prefer the true final boss design-wise, but this theme kicks MASSIVE ASS!

The perfect representation of how twisted and insane Robotnik is after all these years of defeat. He would risk losing everything, even his own life, just to see the blue hedgehog Sonic die before his eyes. With the Phantom Ruby in his hands, he does not care about the Chaos Emeralds anymore. More power hungry then ever, he would go ALL OUT with the Ruby to his advantage only to turn Sonic into a blue jelly, inside or outside the Titanic Monarch. Little did Robotnik know however, that his overconfidence would ultimately lead to his undoing.

I've heard people say this final boss theme is infinitely better than sonic forces final boss theme. I personally think they are equal, because they both fit the circumstances of the story they belong to. On one hand, you have sonic mania, where eggman has acquired his strongest tool yet and is throwing everything at you at full steam. So the more sinister theme definitely works here. On the other hand, you have sonic forces, where after being beaten back by the eggman empire for ages, the resistance are finally ready to take the good doctor down, so the theme fits the theme of "Finally time for some upbeat, heroic, hedgehog themed payback. (You can still say this is better than forces all you want, this is just my take)

I love how sonic mania is the physical embodiment of "oh, just a little guy!" "oh- he's kinda fucked up actually", like 90% of it is fun romp through a goofy world, goin' fast, simply vibin, havin a good time. The other 10% is themes of manic obsession and madness. And I love it so much.

Eggman at the peak of insanity... Under the Phantom Ruby's illusions. After the Ruby's interaction with the chaos emeralds, a wormhole appears as we see. Perhaps the world in Sonic Forces was just a vision showing what kind of illusions Eggman was looking to have. My theory could go deeper 🤔

this song simulates how I imagine it would feel to be slapped in the face as a masochist and quite frankly I'm all for it.
I like how this portrays Robotnik's mental state throughout this game. All these attempts at trying to defeat Sonic, but he failed, and failed every time. The final boss really goes to show that Robotnik completely lost it. At this point with the Phantom Ruby in his hands, he doesn't even care that he might kill himself in the heart of the Titanic Monarch, he just wants Sonic DEAD.
Eggman is going insane and I love it.
Robotnik asks himself “Wow. Will I really get that crazy?” and right here that answers his question. Yes. Right here he has been driven straight into insanity by Sonic. He just wants him *gone.* Out of this world forever.

Still one of the best Sonic final boss themes after the few short years it's been out! I remember letting my imagination run wild when I listened to this originally. I even said on a previous version of this extension that the intensity of this song caused me to imagine a scenario where an insane Eggman is about to kill Sonic's friends, which then causes Sonic's rage to kick into overdrive and the two engage in the ultimate battle to take each other out. I was so excited thinking about it, I recommended that someone should animate it. Hasn't happened yet, but alas, it's still a fun fantasy I associate with this theme!

The beginning really illustrates the warning of fully using the phantom ruby's power. Then it goes onto illustrating the fact that Eggman isn't afraid to destroy reality just to kill this stupid blue rat.
